Pixels Trailer – Adam Sandler takes on classic video characters

March 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pixels-poster3When you watch the trailer for Pixels it undoubtedly looks very weird, but it also looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper has to call on his childhood best friend, ‘80s video game champion Sam Brenner, now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders to defeat the aliens and save the planet.

‘Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, and Brian Cox’

The movie is due out in August. [Read more…]

Gay Short Film Showcase: Owning Our Faith – Looking at the struggle for gay Catholics

March 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

owning-our-faithIn the media it often comes across as if the gay rights struggle is essentially LGBTs vs. the Christians, but the reality is far more complex than that, with plenty of people of faith who are completely on board with gay equality, and a lot of LGBT people who whole-heartedly believe in God(s).

That includes many Catholics, who remain part of the Church even if the denomination often seems hostile to gay people (particularly in the US, which tends to be more hardline than the ‘soft’ homophobia of many European Catholic bishops). Now some gay Catholics have told their story in the documentary short Owning Our Faith, all about what it is to be LGBT and Christian.

On the film’s website the makers say: ‘In November 2014, several LGBT Catholics from the Church of St. Paul the Apostle in New York City launched a project concerning the relationship between the Catholic Church and people of sexual and gender minorities. The goals of this project are to foster dialogue about and encourage greater inclusion and acceptance of LGBT people in the Church. In October 2014, Pope Francis convened a synod of bishops to discuss issues of the family within the Catholic Church, including the topic of homosexuality.  The Pope has encouraged ongoing conversation on these topics in preparation for the Ordinary Synod on the Family, set to take place in October 2015.

‘We want our stories to be a part of the discussion because LGBT people have unique gifts to contribute to the life of the Church. We hope the Church recognizes that God is working through our life stories. We want to inspire change that will strengthen families, encourage acceptance of LGBT people, foster an inclusive community, and promote an open and accepting dialogue among Catholics across the world. Most of all, we want everyone to know they are loved and not alone.’

Matt Bomer & Cheyenne Jackson Join American Horror Story: Hotel

March 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-bomerAs was suggested before American Horror Story: Freak Show started airing, Jessica Lange has now confirmed that she’s ‘done’ with the show. While it may be sad to lose her, that doesn’t mean the next season won’t be getting a great cast – and it’s also getting a good quotient of gayness – as Vulture reports that at the LA TV Festival it was revealed Cheyenne Jackson and Matt Bomer will both appear in the upcoming American Horror Story: Hotel.

They join the previously announced Lady Gaga, with Bomer hopefully getting more screentime this time around than his brief appearance in Asylum. Jackson meanwhile is an AHS virgin.

There’s no news on who they might play, or indeed which of the other ‘regular’ actors wil return. Sarah Paulson has suggested she’d be happy to return if the scheduling works out, while Denis O’Hare also appears to be close to agreeing to do it.

Of her decision to leave, Lange didn’t give a full reason as to why she doesn’t want to stick around (in fact, quite the opposite), but did say, “We’ve had a great run. I have absolutely loved doing these four characters, and in all the madness, I loved the writers, actors, Ryan, the whole insanity of it, the stories, shooting here, shooting in New Orleans, everything… To cut to the chase, yes, I’m done.”

American Horror Story: Hotel will start airing on TV towards the end of 2015.

Emma Thompson Will Be Beauty & The Beast’s Mrs. Potts

March 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

emma-thompsonAlthough Disney hasn’t officially announced that its live-action Beauty & The Beast will even be a musical, it’s starting to sound like it’ll almost be a shot for shot remake of the 1991 animated movie (not really), but with more CGI than just a ballroom.

The cast is fast coming together, with Emma Watson (Belle) joined by Dan Stevens (the Beast), Luke Evans (Gaston) and Josh Gad (Lefou) in the last few days, and now two more have signed up with TheWrap reporting that Emma Thompson and Kevin Kline have come onboard.

Kline is set to be Belle’s ditzy father Maurice, whose capture by the Beast sets the whole plot in motion. Thompson meanwhile is going to be a teapot, taking over from Angela Lansbury as the piece of singing crockery, Mrs. Potts.

Having Potts in the movie is perhaps the ultimate proof this will stick close to the earlier movie, but there’s one more very strong piece of evidence, which is that original composer Alan Menken has been brought in to retool his score for the movie, with Sir Tim Rice helping to provide some new words (original lyricist Howard Ashman sadly died shortly before the 1991 movie premiered).

We also now have a release date for the Bill Condon directed movie, March 17th 2017, so will still have a while to wait.

avengers-age-of-ultron-Quicksilver-triple-bannerIt’s a few days since we had our last batch of Avengers: Age Of Ultron character banners, but there are so many characters that we’ve still got a few to go, and this time it’s a bunch of newbies – Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and James Spader as Quicksilver, Scarlet With and the nefarious Ultron himself.

Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (Blu-ray Review)

March 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin
Director: Francis Lawrence
Running Time: 122 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: March 16th 2015 (UK)

Mockingjay was always going to have a struggle, despite the success of the previous movies. Anyone who’s read the books will know that the third instalment is rather different from the earlier two, not least because there’s no Hunger Games arena and things get pretty dark and glum. Many also wondered whether there was enough material to make two films out of it, or if this gambit to get more cash from the Panem cow was a stretch too far.

It’s pleasing to see then that Mockingjay Part 1 is pretty good. Quite how good it is is difficult to say at the moment, as it’s tough to escape the feeling that this is a long build-up to Part 2, and it’s only going to be with the hindsight of the final instalment that we’ll really be able to properly judge. March 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

drink-me-slide3Well, this looks like it might be pretty hot! Last year we had Richard Mansfield’s first feature-length film, the period thriller The Secret Path, and this year it’s the turn on his husband, Daniel, who’s offering a little vampiric horror with Drink Me.

Could Sebastian be the killer stalking the streets of their neighborhood? A classically sexy thriller – with a delicious vampiric touch – DRINK ME is a highly erotic and exciting film.’

New Seek Teaser Trailer – A shy writer is pulled into the gay clubbing world

March 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

seek-slide3We’ve previously had teasers for Seek on BGPS, but that was back before the movie has its world premiere. Now it’s been doing the festival circuit with some success and has been picked up for release by TLA Releasing.

The ‘film centers on Evan, a shy, budding young writer who attempts to shake off the torment of lost love while taking an assignment profiling an alluring club promoter who reigns over a world of music, lights, and drag queens. Around him are a group of twenty-something urbanites who all long for the same thing: approval. Whether it’s by someone they find attractive, or by the cities’ in crowd, or by the industry they work in, all strive for the proverbial higher branch, sometimes failing to recognize the fruit that lies within their reach.’

Ryan Fisher and Adrian Shepherd-Gawinski star, alongside Going Down In La La Land’s Matthew Ludwinski – and as you can see from the teaser below, they look good and so does the film. [Read more…]
