Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie Poster Arrives

November 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Snoopy-and-Charlie-Brown-The-Peanuts-Movie-Teaser-posterIt’s a shame that in the UK, while everyone knows who Snoopy i, we never quite got to grips with the idea that Charles Schulz’s comic strip world is called Peanuts. As a result next year’s CGI movie has to go by the rather verbose title, Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie, while the US just gets ‘Peanuts’.

Now a new poster has arrived giving a new take on the classic image of Snoopy on top of his doghouse.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘For the first time ever, Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang we know and love from Charles Schulz’s timeless “Peanuts” comic strip will be making their big-screen debut; like they’ve never been seen before in CG-Animated Feature film in 3D.’

Out Gay Hunger Games Producer Thinks Being In The Closet In Hollywood Is For Wimps

November 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nina-jacobsonNina Jacobson is one of Hollywood’s real power players, having helped oversee movie such as Pirates Of Caribbean and The Sixth Sense as a studio executive at Disney, before going out on her own and producing the massively successful Hunger Games movies.

She is also an out gay woman and as she told The New York Time Magazine, she doesn’t have much time for those in Hollywood who stay in the closet. When asked about whether she thinks it’s a detriment to be out, she answered, “No. If anything, it’s a detriment to be closeted. Being closeted in Hollywood is like wearing a toupee. It suggests that you’re not proud of who you are, and that you’re afraid of people finding out who you are. There are places where you can’t be out for fear of your life, for fear of your livelihood. Hollywood is not one of them. So to be closeted here is tantamount to being a wimp.”

The interview then followed up with whether she thinks mean you can tell is someone is gay but not out. She says, “You can always tell! When I first was coming out to a senior colleague of mine, I said, ‘Do you think the boss knows?’ And he said, ‘Nina, at this point, I think it’s safe to assume everyone knows.'”

The whole interview is worth a read, including Nina relating an incredibly Hollywood story where she learned she’d been fired from Disney on the telephone while her partner was in the delivery room giving birth to their child.

Swipe Click Bang Web Series – Whether gay or straight negotiating hook-up culture can be complicated

November 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

swipe-click-bangThe web series Swipe Click Bang hit the web a couple of weeks ago, with each episode looking at a different situation involving hookup apps and their inherent complications, including both gay and straight set-ups.

Here’s the show’s synopsis: ‘Swipe Click Bang tells the stories of one-night stands unique to our generation.  With “hookup” apps, casual sex has never been easier.  We thought it was time there was a show about it.  So we made one.

‘Each episode of Swipe Click Bang features new strangers who’ve met up to get it on.  Some encounters are hilarious and awkward, while others are provocative and scary.  They are always worth watching.’

Below we’ve got Episode 2, Hit It And Quit It, where a young man has turned up for his first Grindr hookup, but while the other guy is just wanting sex, the newbie is hoping he can turn it into a date. There’s also Episode 4, #YoungLove, where two incredibly social media savvy young women discuss wanting to tell the world about how they met, even if they doesn’t involve mentioning they hooked up on a smartphone app.

You can head over to the Swipe Click Bang website for the other episodes. [Read more…]

Best Feature Amongst Gay-Themed Love Is Strange’s Four Independent Spirit Award Nominations

November 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

love-is-strange-slideIt was a good showing for Love Is Strange in the Independent Spirit Awards nominations, with Ira Sach’s gay-themed movie picking up four nods, including one for Best Feature, along with Best Actor noms for both John Lithgow and Alfred Molina, while Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias are up for Best Screenplay.

Sachs was previously acknowledged a couple of years ago when Keep The Lights On received three Independent Spirit Awards nominations.

It wasn’t the only gay-themed movie the ISAs noted, as the excellent Test is up for the John Cassavetes Award, given to the best feature made for under $500,000. Queer filmmaker Xavier Dolan meanwhile is up for Best International Film for Mommy.

In Love Is Strange, Ben (John Lithgow) and George (Alfred Molina) are four decades into their relationship and can finally marry. However, their vows are tested shortly afterwards when George loses his job and the couple are forced to live apart. Separated and suddenly reliant on friends and family, George and Ben must navigate a new world.

Test meanwhile follows a young dancer in 1980s San Francisco, just as AIDS is emerging.

The Independent Spirit Awards will be handed out February 21st 2015.

‘Very Hot’ James Franco, Zachary Quinto & Charlie Carver Threesome Promised In Michael

November 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-franco-quinto-pic1Michael is already shaping up to be one of the highest profile gay-themed movies of 2015. But often when LGBT movies are hoping for a bit of mainstream appeal, all the actual full-on gay content gets scrubbed out. However if E! Online is correct, Michael is set to offer the extremely enticing prospect of a ‘very hot’ James Franco, Zachary Quinto & Charlie Carver threesome.

A source told E!, “They first meet in a club. The music is pumping. It’s the eighties! When Charlie’s character questions Franco about having a boyfriend, Franco says, ‘He’d like you, too.'”

The scenes then cuts to the bedroom, where the guys are naked, ‘intertwined and “kissing,” the source said. “You see their asses.”‘

Based on a true story, in Michael Franco play Michael Glatze, who went from being a prominent gay rights advocate to becoming one of the poster-boys for the ex-gay movement when he found God, renounced his homosexuality and married a woman. Quinto plays Glatze’s onetime boyfriend, with Emma Roberts, Darryl Hannah and, of course Charlie Carver, also starring.

Expect it in cinemas sometime next year.

Pan Trailer – Hugh Jackman heads off to Neverland with Garrett Hedlund

November 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pan-poster3Just yesterday the first pictures from Pan appeared and now it’s time for the trailer, which suggests this will certainly be a big, spectacular movie, even if it does look a little bizarre. Indeed it’ll be interesting to see how well this Peter Pan origin story works on the big screen.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Warner Bros. Pictures comes, “Pan,” a live-action Peter Pan feature directed by Joe Wright (“Atonement,” “Pride & Prejudice”).

‘Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, the action adventure follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny—to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan.

‘The film stars Oscar® nominee Hugh Jackman (“Les Misérables”) as Blackbeard; Garrett Hedlund (“Inside Llewyn Davis”) as Hook; Oscar® nominee Rooney Mara (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) as Tiger Lily; Adeel Akhtar (“The Dictator”) as Smee; and newcomer Levi Miller as Peter.

‘Amanda Seyfried (“Les Misérables”) rounds out the cast as Mary, alongside Jack Charles (“Mystery Road”) as The Chief/Tiger Lily’s father; Taejoo Na (“The Kick”) as Kwahu; Nonso Anozie (“Son of God,” “Atonement”) as Bishop; Kathy Burke (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”) as Mother Barnabas; Kurt Egyiawan (“Skyfall”) as Murray; Lewis MacDougall (UK TV’s “In the Name of the Children”) as Nibs; and newcomer Leni Zieglmeier as Wendy Darling.’

The movie is due out July 2015. [Read more…]

Upstairs Inferno Trailer – Inside the largest gay mass murder in US history

November 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

upstairs-inferno-slideUpstairs Inferno has been in the works for a while know, and know we can get a fresh look at this documentary that looks at one of the most terrible – yet little known – events in LGBT history. The new teaser comes just as the film’s latest crowdfunding effort raised much of money it needs to cover the exorbitant licensing fees for historical newspaper photographs and newsreels.

On June 24, 1973, an arsonist set fire to a gay bar in New Orleans called the Up Stairs Lounge.  The result was the largest gay mass murder in U.S. history. Despite the staggering historical significance, few people know about the tragedy. Thirty-two people were killed and some bodies were never identified because their families were ashamed that the victims were gay. No one was ever charged with the crime.

The tragedy did not stop at the loss of lives. There were also the delayed injuries: lost jobs, fear, public ridicule and severed families. The devastation was compounded by the homophobic reactions and utter lack of concern by the general public, government and religious leaders. The fire permanently altered lives and was the root of many lifelong struggles.

According to the makers, Upstairs Inferno is poised to be the most comprehensive and authoritative film on the fire. Interviews with survivors and witnesses to the aftermath have been heart wrenching and insightful. Some of the people we interviewed haven’t discussed the fire until now, especially on camera. The documentary also features interviews with historians, experts and current leaders of the New Orleans LGBT community.  Police reports, crime scene photographs, personal photographs, newspaper clippings and video clips from local news stations are also featured in the film. Oscar Isaac Will Be X-Men: Apocalypse’s Title Villain

November 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

oscar-isaacThe people who are annoyed that Ridley Scott’s Exodus has a cast largely made up of white people – despite being about ancient Egyptians and Israelites – probably won’t like this, but X-Men: Apocalypse has found its Middle Eastern born villain in the form of the Guatemalan born Oscar Isaac. Buy hey, perhaps Jordan was mainly populated by Hispanic people 5,000 years ago.

THR confirms that it’s Oscar who will play Apocalypse in the film (the character was briefly seen at the end of Days Of Future Past, but it wasn’t confirmed who would play him in the next film). He is one of first mutants and has all sorts of powers emanating from the fact he can control all the molecules in his body – meaning he can shape-shift, has superhuman power, can interface with technology and his regeneration abilities have allowed him to live for millennia. At least that’s in the comics and presumably he will be the same in the movie.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set in the 1980s and renunites Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor X and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, who must go up against one of the most powerful mutants there has ever been. As we recently reported, director Bryan Singer is currently looking for young versions of Cyclops and Jean Grey, with some wondering whether the latter will play a vital role in Apocalypse, considering her own potentially apocalyptic powers.

The movie shoots early next year for a summer 2016 release.

Hugh Jackman Gets His Blackbeard On In The First Pics From Pan

November 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pan-preview-pic2-slideOver the next few weeks we should be seeing the first shoots of hype for some of what Hollywood is hoping will be the big films of 2015. We already know that a Jurassic World trailer arrived on Friday, while as Star Wars Episode VII will debut the same day in select cinemas.

However one film that might need a bit more of a push than most – simply because it’s not a sequel or spin-off -is Pan, director Joe Wright‘s Peter Pan origin story.

When Hugh Jackman was spotted with a shaved head earlier this year, many assumed that was because his Blackbeard (it’s an origin so Hook isn’t the big baddie in this one) would be bald. However as these first pics show, which arrive via EW, it’s because he’s got a bit of a weird wig.

The images also show young Levi Miller as Peter, who is kidnapped by Blackbeard’s pirates and taken off to Neverland. Hook will appear in the film – in the form of Gerrett Hedlund – but he’s just a member of the crew and befriends Pan, although presumably by the end of the movie we’ll see exactly how they became mortal enemies.

The film’s out July 2015. [Read more…]
