Cara Delevingne Says ‘If People Want To Say I’m Gay, That’s Great’

August 2, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

cara-delevigne-st-vincentFor a while it’s been known that actress/model Cara Delevingne has been dating musician St. Vincent. However she hasn’t said a vast amount it – although she certainly hasn’t been trying to hide it either.

Noe she’s been opening about her relationship and sexuality to the UK edition of Vogue. The 23-year-old says of her female partner, “I’m completely in love. Before, I didn’t know what love was – real love. I didn’t understand the depth of it. I always used to think it was you against the world. Now I know the meaning of life is love. Whether that’s for yourself or for the world or your partner.”

As for how she defines her sexuality, she’s joining a growing list of celebs who don’t really want to call themselves anything. She admits though to having some issues with the word ‘gay’, due to how it was used when she was young. She says, “As a child, I used gay as a bad word, as in, ’that’s so gay.’ All my friends did. I’m obviously in love, so if people want to say I’m gay, that’s great. But we’re all liquid – we change, we grow.”

Final Pete’s Dragon Trailer – A very different take on the tale of a boy and his beast

August 2, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

petes-dragon-slideSynopsis: ‘A reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film, “Pete’s Dragon” is the adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon. “Pete’s Dragon” stars Bryce Dallas Howard (“Jurassic World”), Oakes Fegley (“This is Where I Leave You”), Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”), Karl Urban (“Star Trek”), Oona Laurence (“Southpaw”) and Oscar® winner Robert Redford (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”). The film, which is directed by David Lowery (“Ain’t Them Bodies Saints”), is written by Lowery & Toby Halbrooks based on a story by Seton I. Miller and S.S. Field and produced by Jim Whitaker, p.g.a. (“The Finest Hours,” “Friday Night Lights”), with Barrie M. Osborne (“The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Great Gatsby”) serving as executive producer.

‘For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley).

‘Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” flies into UK Cinemas on August 12, 2016.’ [Read more…]

The Infiltrator Trailer – Bryan Cranston goes undercover into Pablo Escobar’s world

August 2, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

infiltrator-slideSynopsis: ‘Amidst the lavish excess of the 1980s, Robert Musella became a pivotal player for drug lords cleaning their dirty cash. He traded on mob connections, to become the confidant to scores of the international underworld and the bankers who enabled them.

‘However, Robert Musella was, in fact, the undercover persona of Special Agent Robert Mazur: a US customs official who went further than any before him. Laying his life on the line, he infiltrated the globe’s largest cartels and discovered just how deep into society their influence extended. Welcomed into an inner-circle of violence and corruption, Mazur found himself in the tight embrace of those he had promised to take down.

‘Based on the true story of a fearless undercover agent, THE INFILTRATOR is a heart-stopping account of one of history’s most elaborate stings. The operation reeled in key players in a chain stretching all the way to Escobar. Their arrests would lead to the collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International and shake the black economy to its core.’

The movie will be in cinemas in September. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: Robbie Amell Gets Shirtless In A Supermarket

August 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robbie-amell-shirtless2It’s a bit difficult to work out what’s happening in this picture, not least because every time we try to look at the fact Robbie Amell is in a supermarket or that he’s holding balloons, our eyes keep being drawn back to the ridiculous definition of his chest and abs. You have to wonder whether Robbie and older brother Stephen (of Arrow fame), have competitions to see whose can be most ridiculously fit.

The main clue to the pic is the Instagram caption, ‘Weird night shoots in a supermarket. Happy Friday everyone. #whenwefirstmet’. That at least lets us know that it was taken during the shooting of When We First Met, a new rom-com starring (and co-written by) Adam Devine, as a man who meets the girl of his dream one night but ends up in the friend zone. He gets the chance to go back in time and relive the first night they met, perhaps changing what happens.

Amell plays Ethan in the movie, who we now gets his clothes off in a supermaket. And we’re very happy that he has. Take a look at Amell’s the Instagram post below (and thanks to Instinct for the tip). [Read more…]

Gay Short Film Showcase: Flamingo Pride – It’s tough being the only straight flamingo in the flock

August 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

flamingo-pride-slideHere’s a rather bizarre but also pretty cool short film. There aren’t many explicitly gay themed animations, but Flamingo Pride takes us into a CG world where nearly all of the pink birds are gay and partying 24/7.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Frustrated at being the only straight flamingo in a gay flock, our hero falls in love with a lady stork who flies by. Unable to convince her of his serious intentions, he isolates himself and endures an identity crisis. An intensive encounter inspires him to make a bold move.’

I’m not 100% what the moral viewpoint of the short is meant to be, as it seems to suggest being both gay and straight is pretty rubbish, but that’s it’s certainly not fun if you feel stuck on the outside of everything. If you know a short film we ought to be posting, tell us by getting in touch via our contact page. Transformers: The Last Knight Shows Off A New Look For Optimus Prime

August 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transformers-the-last-knight-concept-posterAre we getting a new Optimus Prime for Transformers: The Last Knight? It appears that we might, although by releasing this concept art billboard poster so early (the movie is only halfway through principal photography), it gives them time to test the waters and see how audiences respond to an Optimus who looks more humanoid than he has before. If there’s a bad reaction is means there’s still time for changes.

This doesn’t mean that they’re necessarily changing the continuity (several characters are returning, including those played by Mark Wahlberg and Josh Duhamel), as the earlier movies have shown that the Transformers are able to change their form if they need to. However, we don’t know how it will handle the alteration, as very little info has been released about the plot.

The poster does hint at robot dragons, big spaceships and, erm, a city, but not much more. It’s enough to set off plenty of speculation though. The film’s out summer 2017.

Channing Tatum Is Turning Merman For A Remake Of Splash

August 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

channing-tatumFans of Channing Tatum with his shirt off should rejoice, as Deadline reports that he is attached to one of the lead roles in the planned remake of the 1984 hit movie Splash. His 22 Jump Street co-star Jillian Bell has also signed on.

In the original movie Tom Hanks played a man who was rescued by a mermaid (Darryl Hannah) as a child and then again as an adult, although he isn’t aware that’s what happened. She decides to search for him on land (her tail becomes legs once its dried), but after they meet and begin to fall for one another, her secret threatens to come out, especially as her tail will reappear if she gets wet..

For the remake there’s a gender role-reversal, with Tatum as the part-fish part-human, and Bell as the human. It’s not clear how the plot might differ otherwise. Marja-Lewis Ryan is set to write the script.

Win Mapplethorpe: Look At The Pictures On DVD!

August 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mapplethorpe-look-at-the-pictures-dvd-coverThe one thing more outrageous than Robert Mapplethorpe’s photographs was his life. Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures is the first definitive, feature length portrait of the controversial American artist since his death in 1989. The documentary is out on DVD now from Dogwoof Pictures, and we’ve teamed up with them to give away three copies.

Directed and produced by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato (Inside Deep Throat, The Last Beekeeper) Mapplethorpe is an intimate look into the life of a trailblazing artist dedicated to making photography into a respected, valued and collectable art form in the contemporary art market.  Intimate revelations from family, friends and lovers are topped only by Mapplethorpe’s candor, revealed in a series of rediscovered, never before heard interviews, made public for the first time. Speaking about his life, loves and work, this ‘confessional’ is supported by previously, rare archival footage and images, which give a brand new insight into a man who lived the same way he took his pictures – in black and white.

This captivating documentary is a unique portrayal of an artist who turned photography into contemporary fine art with a bold vision that ignited a cultural war still raging to this day.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice – Ultimate Edition (Blu-ray Review)

August 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams
Director: Zack Snyder
Running Time: 182 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: August 1st 2016 (UK)

As they say, ‘The higher you climb, the further there is to fall’. That’s a fair description of Batman v Superman, a film that you certainly can’t fault for its ambition, but which can’t reach the heights it strives for despite its best efforts. After an exceedingly mixed reaction at cinemas, the film comes to Blu-ray in an Ultimate Edition form, which adds in an extra 30 minutes of footage and adds back in some of the violence that US censors wouldn’t permit to get it a PG-13 certificate.

Some hoped this new version would rectify all the flaws of the theatrical cut. It doesn’t do that, but it does help a little, particularly with some of the subplots where the theatrical version had bits of them, but where they either petered out or didn’t make a whole lot of sense. It does add a couple of extra problems though. [Read more…]

Tyler Posey Says Sorry For His Snapchat ‘I’m Gay’ Post

July 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tyler-PoseyA couple of days ago Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey confused a lot of people with a Snapchat post of him standing next to a street sign for ‘Gay St.’, and saying ““I am this, and this is me. I’ve never felt more alive!… I’m gay!”. Many assumed it was a joke, others thought he was being serious and coming out, and others were merely confused, not helped by another post shortly afterwards where he was stood next to a street light where he said, “I’m lamp”.

Even many who assumed he wasn’t serious were unimpressed by what they saw as a rather juvenile joke that was potentially belittling to gay people, as it assumes something is hilariously funny just because it’s called ‘gay’. Other wondered whether it was mocking the importance of the coming out process.

Not too long after the confusing post, MTV, which makes Teen Wolf, denied Posey was gay and said they believed he was meaning the word in the sense of being happy. The actor himself then took to Twitter to apologise, saying, “I am a big proponent of love over hate, and standing together during divisive times… Although I’m not gay, I fully support the LGBTQ community. This was a moment intended to reflect that… And everyone, I am truly sorry to the people I’ve offended or lessened how big coming out is. I just want to spread love in this world.”

Posey has previously shown himself to be supportive of LGBT rights and has publicly expressed support for Teen Wolf co-stars Charlie Carver and Colton Haynes after they came out. He’s also known for having a mischievous sense of humour which in this instance seems to have gotten the better of him.

Take a look at the original video and Posey’s apology below: [Read more…]

Chris Evans May Become A New Version Of Dr. Jekyll

July 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris-EvansChris Evans hasn’t been having a huge amount of luck outside the Marvel Universe, because as much as audiences love him as Captain America, they haven’t shown much interest in most of the other movies he’s made in the past few years. Admittedly that’s because some of them were rubbish, while others deserved a bigger audience (e.g. Snowpiercer) but didn’t get a big release.

Perhaps he will have better luck with a new take on a different classic character than Steve Rogers, as Deadline reports he’s circling the title role in Jeykll, based on Doctor Who head honcho Steven Moffat’s 2007 mini-series. The show starred James Nesbitt as a the descendant of Dr. Jekyll from Robert Louis Steveson’s classic novel. However, he finds that having a dangerous alter-ego hasn’t been left in the past when he begins suffering from Mr. Hyde-life symptoms.

While Jekyll attempts to find a way to get the two sides to co-exist, things become increasingly complicated as the two sides living within him start communicating with each other via notes, and Hyde starts interacting with Jekyll’s family. From that synopsis you have to wonder whether Evans has a little Hulk envy, as it certainly touches of similar themes to that character.

No deal has been signed for Chris to star as yet, but he’s definitely interested. If he does fill the role, he wouldn’t be the only Jekyll around, as Russell Crowe recently signed on to play the character in Universal’s interconnected monster universe, starting with next year’s The Mummy.
