Tom Hiddleston Gets Down To His Underwear For W Magazine

June 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hiddleston-w-pic3-slideTom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch should start a club for British guys who are undoubtedly hot, but it’s slightly difficult to put your finger on exactly why they are as attractive as they are. However, Tom Hiddlestons has now proved – as if he needed to – that one things he has got is an extremely hot body.

A new photoshoot for W Magazine gets Tom down to his boxer shorts, and while he doesn’t exactly look that happy (dating Taylor Swift will do that to you), he does look extremely good. That said, we could recommend some better undies if he wants us to.

You can take a look at some of Mona Kuhn’s images below (click on them for larger versions). Now we just need to teach him how to smile more. [Read more…]

Watch Old Dogs & New Tricks’ Return With ‘Where Were YOU When The Rights Went ON?’ Special

June 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

old-dogs-and-new-tricks-specialWe haven’t seen anything of the guys from Old Dogs & New Tricks since the end of 2014. They’re returning with a fourth and final season of the popular gay-themed web series later this year, but before then we’ve got the half-hour special below, released to mark a year since the US Supreme Court decision on marriage equality.

Set on the morning of June 26, 2015 (six months “and a day” after the show’s Christmas-based cliffhanging season-three finale), the special resolves those cliffhangers and shows just when and where the love-lorn Dogs (played by Leon Acord, Curt Bonnem, Jeffrey Patrick Olson, David Pevsner) heard the news coming out of the Supreme Court – and how they react.

Series regulars Amanda Gari and Parnell Damone Marcano return, along with frequent special guests Rutanya Alda (Mommie Dearest), Kathryn Leigh Scott (original Dark Shadows), Bruce L. Hart (Homewrecker), and Jeremy Bright. The special also guest-stars Teddy J. Garces (The Guild) and introduces new series semi-regular Brian Nolan (The Lair).

Although this celebratory episode had been planned for a June release for a long time, the tragic events in Orlando almost changed that. Creator Leon Acord comments, “I immediately considered postponing. But almost as quickly, I realized we had to move forward. I don’t want to let terrorists change our lives. We don’t want to dismiss the anniversary of the most important day in the gay rights movement since Stonewall. And we felt the community could certainly use a little levity, especially now; a reminder of life the way it should be. Our community has always used comedy in the face of adversity. Hell, we practically invented the concept!”

Take a look at ‘Where Were YOU When The Rights Went ON?’ below. You can view the first three seasons at www.odnt.tv. The show also continues to seek funds for its fourth & final season at www.gofundme.com/ODNTs4  [Read more…]

We’ve Been Around Web Series – Taking a look at the lives of Transgender pioneers

June 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

weve-been-around-web-seriesThere is no doubt that the stories of transgender people have tended to be marginalised and hidden. The new webseries We’ve Been Around attempts to redress the balance a little, with six, five-minute episodes, each of which takes a look at different trans people and their impact.

The series was created by Emmy Award-nominated director Rhys Ernst (producer of Amazon’s Transparent), with the aim of celebrating the previously untold stories of transgender pioneers in history. “With this series,” Ernst says, “I wanted to look towards my own trans history and forbearers to see where I came from and where we’re headed.”

With a dynamic mixture of archival footage, live action, and animation tailored to each particular story, the series moves through history from Civil War battlefields to prohibition era brothels, from the East Village to San Francisco at the height of the AIDS epidemic, telling stories of pioneers who lived authentically – long before the world knew the word “transgender.”

The six films are:

  • Albert Cashier illuminates the 19th century trailblazing of Albert Cashier, a transgender man who fought in the Civil War.
  • Lucy Hicks Anderson was a woman of color who thrived during Prohibition and stood her ground to protect her marriage rights after being exposed as a transgender woman.
  • Little Axe profiles trans man Wilmer Broadnax, a popular gospel singer known as “Little Axe,” and his brother Willie Broadnax, as they sang their way to success from the 1940s to the 1970s.
  • Lou Sullivan is about a pioneering transgender gay man and AIDS activist.
  • S.T.A.R. follows Marsha “Pay It No Mind” Johnson and Sylvia Rivera’s rise from the Stonewall riots to create a modern day trans movement.
  • Amid the punk ethics of the 1990s identity politics, trans activists Leslie Feinberg and Riki Wilchins spearhead a movement to protest the trans-exclusionary policy of a women’s music festival in CAMP TRANS.

Danny The Manny Eps 1-5 – A gay nanny looks after a gender non-conforming kid in the new web series

June 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

danny-the-manny-slideThe first five episodes of Mike Roma’s new web series, Danny The Manny, have now been released, and they’re certainly worth a watch. Roma plays the titular character, an out gay man who’s been hired to look after a young boy called Quinn while his parent are working.

However, he isn’t 100% sure what he should do when he discovers that Quinn likes to cross-dress. While keen to be supportive, Danny isn’t certain whether Quinn is simply exploring gender as part of growing up, or if it is an expression of Quinn’s real gender identity. The results are rather sweet.

Roma says, ‘My own story, coupled with my work as a babysitter, made me wonder about how we should raise kids in a day and age when being LGBT is more accepted than ever before. We’re now living in this gray area where gender is being questioned and roles are being capsized. My goal is to bring the subject out of the shadows, to urge others to question our own ideas, and to open up our imagination about what it means to be a girl or a boy.’

Harry Potter Spin-Off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them To Include Gay Rights Parallels

June 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fantastic-beasts-slideIt is not exactly a secret that JK Rowling is a massive supporter of marriage equality and LGBT rights, and it appears she has brought some deliberate parallels with that to the script for her Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. A new featurette gives us a few hints at that, with Rowling talking about the importance to her of heroes who are, “set apart, stigmatised or othered.”

The hero in the movie is Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), who feels more comfortable in the company of animals than people. He’s been travelling the world collecting magical creatures, which eventually brings him to New York, and a culture he doesn’t really understand or completely agree with. As he says in the featurette, he cannot understand the attitude of American wizards to non-magic people, “You’re not meant to befriend them, you can’t marry them, which seems wildly absurd to me.”

It’s not clear how far the metaphor will go, but it seems clear Rowling is keen for the movie to explore repressive attitudes towards other people and the relations between them. As with some of the Harry Potter metaphors, it is likely it will be left open so they can be interpreted as being about things such as race and class, as well as sexuality.

Although it was only vaguely hinted at in the Harry Potter books, Rowling has said that Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore was gay. There have been suggestions that a much younger version of that character will appear in Fantastic Beasts, so there is the possibility we’ll actually see him expressing his sexuality a little more than we have previously. It’s not known if there will be any other explicitly LGBT characters.

Take a look at the featurette below. [Read more…]

Jesse Eisenberg Thinks Anti-Gay Pride Protesters Are ‘So F***ed Up’

June 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jesse-eisenberg-prideIt turns out Batman v Superman star Jesse Eisenberg has no time for anti-gay trolls. He’s currently in London starring in The Spoils, a play he also wrote that is currently playing at Trafalgar Studios. That theatre is just steps from Trafalgar Square, which was the focus of London Pride events on Saturday, with the result that on his way to work, Eisenberg came across a bunch of anti-gay, ‘Christian’ protesters.

The meeting was captured on camera, with Eisenberg watching as the protesters use tortuous logic to explain why God is a ‘God of love’, but also one who’s happy for them to spread their particular brand of hatred and judgement. One protester then asks Jesse, “Is your mind closed?”.

Eisenberg responds with the rather pithy, “You’re so fucked up.”

Watching the video you could almost feel sorry for the protesters, as despite having a nice, large area cordoned off for them to spout their nonsense, hardly anybody bothered to turn up. While proper Pride attendees got messages of support from the likes of David Cameron and Jeremy Corbyn, the protesters just got a movie star swearing at them. Oh well.

Take a look at the encounter below. [Read more…]

Sebastian Stan Thinks The Idea Of Captain America & Bucky Becoming Boyfriends Is ‘Great’

June 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sebastian-stanOver the last few months there have been various hashtag campaigns on Twitter to give some prominent movie character same sex partners. That includes Elsa from Frozen and Captain America. The likelihood of Marvel allowing Cap to date a boy is pretty remote, but there was a lot of Twitter support for #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend, especially following the closeness between the character and Bucky/The Winter Soldier in the films.

As Chris Evans is known to be incredibly LGBT friendly (and has a gay brother), it’s difficult to imagine he’d be bothered if Captain America turned out to like boys as well as girls, but what about Bucky Barnes actor Sebastian Stan? Well, he’s not against the idea either and has been pleased to see what’s been happening on Twitter.

He told GQ, “Look, man, I think it’s great. Movies are for people to relate to in whatever way they want. No one here is ever going to point a finger and say what’s right and wrong. For me, it’s like, Awww. It’s cute, it’s great. If someone takes the time to think about that, that’s great. I don’t think of the character that way, though. But there’s no right or wrong answer.”

He might not think of the character that way, but from the amount of fan fiction and erotic imagery on the likes of Tumblr, there are plenty of people out there who’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it. While it’s unlikely the two character will get together on screen, Marvel will hopefully start to open the door to significant LGBT characters in its cinematic universe. Disney (which owns the comic company) was recently given a failing grade by GLAAD for not including and LGBT characters in the films it released in 2015, including its Marvel movies. Some of those behind-the-scenes have suggested they’d been keen to make the films more inclusive, but so far there’s little evidence that’s happening.

Oh, and if you really want to see Cap and Bucky geting it on, Men.com will be releasing a porn parody soon with Alex Mecum in the title role, as the posters below show. [Read more…]

Stonewall Director Roland Emmerich Responds To Criticism By Saying The Riots Were A ‘White Event’

June 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

stonewall-brick-slideWhen Roland Emmerich’s movie about the iconic Stonewall gay rights riots was preparing for its US release last year, it came in for a lot of criticism for whitewashing the events. Many felt that by concentrating on a young, white, ‘twink’ (played by Jeremy Irvine), it was sidelining the importance of trans people and people of color to the events.

The very angry condemnation helped ensure the movie bombed horrifically at the box office.

However, the director isn’t backing down. Now that he’s on the press trail for Independence Day: Resurgence he’s decided to double down with a comment that can’t help but sound racist, even if he didn’t mean it that way. He told The Guardian, “My movie was exactly what they said it wasn’t. It was politically correct. It had black, transgender people in there. We just got killed by one voice on the internet who saw a trailer and said, this is whitewashing Stonewall. Stonewall was a white event, let’s be honest. But nobody wanted to hear that any more.”

Over the last 45 years there has been much discussion about the contribution of different groups to the riots, and at this remove it is difficult to precisely say who threw the first rock or how many members of different parts of the LGBTQ community were represented and exactly what they did. Photographs of the riots show many different people involved though.

Some people undoubtedly feel the contribution of trans and people of color has been overstated, while others believe that emphasising the white men there is an attempt to play down the fact it may well not have been them who were key to what happened. It is certainly true though that for the first 20 or so years after the riots it was almost exclusively depicted as about mainly white men fighting back, with other people’s contribution almost totally ignored and sometimes deliberately silenced.

While the criticism of Emmerich’s movie was hyperbolic – partly because the vast majority of it was based on the trailer rather than the actual movie – he still doesn’t seem to get what the criticism actually was, which is that while insisting events are seen through white eyes may make commercial sense, it still has a tendency to marginalise others.

Younger & The Following’s Nico Tortorella Reveals He’s Sexually Fluid

June 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nico-tortorellaNico Tortorella has been turning many a gay man’s head since he popped up in the likes of Scream 4 and The Following. Now the actor, who’s currently starring in TV’s Younger, has revealed that he is sexually fluid.

While at a New York City Pride event, he told Page Six, “I’ve never been in any sort of closet…I was never really in the house. I think it’s one thing to hide… and it’s one thing to come out of the closet in a public statement. But I’ve always done me and never been shy… and have been vocal about it. It’s just a fluidity… We’re all kind of moving into this one situation.”

However, he apparently didn’t expect it to be particularly big news, as the day after the story was first posted, tweeting the following:

well that escalated quickly.

— Nico Tortorella (@_NicoTortorella) June 23, 2016

He also suggested on Instagram that there’s one word he’s not a huge fan of:

It certainly adds to my growing theory that following the coming out of the likes of Colton Haynes and Matt Bomer that if you’re a Hollywood actor who’s so good looking you don’t actually look like a real person (or a former child star), you’re probably not completely straight. That may be a ridiculous generalisation, but the evidence is certainly mounting!

Looking: The Movie Trailer – First look at the wrap-up for HBO’s gay-themed series

June 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac 3 Comments

looking-movie-trailer-slideIt’s a real shame with Looking, as the fact it didn’t become a real success has probably made it more difficult to get gay-themed series made in the US. Perhaps most tragically is that I have a feeling that in years to come it will be viewed a lot more favourably than it is now.

Thankfully though, while HBO decided to cancel it after two series, they have allowed it a final, one-off movie to wrap everything up. That should ensure we get to know what happens to the characters played by the likes of Jonathan Groff, Russell Tovey, Frankie J. Alvarez, Murray Bartlett and Raul Castillo.

HBO has now released the first trailer for the film, which will debut in the US on July 23rd. It should arrive in other countries shortly thereafter. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]
