Zoolander 2 Teaser – Derek and his male model pout return

August 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zoolander-2-teaser-slideAfter many, many years of talking about it, Zoolander 2 is finally coming and we’ll have to hope it doesn’t end up being the slightly damp squib that the Anchorman sequel turned out to.

To get us excited the first teaser has arrived, which even features a Stephen Hawking-style narration (although it does point out at the end that it isn’t actually the great scientist), which takes us inside the brain, before suggestion Derek Zoolander perhaps isn’t the greatest example of human intelligence.

Ben Stiller directs once more, from a script by Justin Theroux. Owen Wilson, Christine Taylor and Will Ferrell’s also return, with Kristen Wiig and Penelope Cruz joining the fun.

It’ll be out next year. [Read more…]

Gay-Themed Gale Harold & Van Hansis Starrer Kiss Me Kill Me Gets A Poster

August 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kiss-me-kill-me-poster1While some movies hang around in pre-production for years and years, that wasn’t the case with Kiss Me, Kill Me, which was announced last October, given the greenlight in November, had wrapped production by the end of February and now has a poster.

Director Casper Adreas helped debut the poster on Instagram with the message, ‘The official poster for my upcoming feature film “Kiss Me, Kill Me”was released today! You like? Can’t wait to share the trailer with you next…’

The film is the first gay role for Gale Harold since Queer As Folk, who stars alongside As the World Turns and Eastsiders’ Van Hansis.

Kiss Me, Kill Me is described a contemporary Alfred Hitchcock/Agatha Christie-style ‘who-done-it’, with the mystery centered on Dusty, who confronts his unfaithful boyfriend and blacks-out, only to wake up to find his boyfriend murdered and he’s the prime suspect.

HBO’s Gay President Says It Was ‘Very Painful’ to Cancel Looking

August 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

looking-s1-slideLooking arrived with great fanfare on TV in early 2014, but while it attracted a lot of interest and comment, it never became a big ratings winner for HBO. As a result shortly after Looking – Season 2 aired it was revealed that it had been cancelled, although there is still the promise of an upcoming two-hour Looking movie to help wrap things up.

Despite it’s relatively low ratings, it was a difficult cancellation for HBO’s openly gay president of programming Michael Lombardo, who TVLine reports as at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, “I thought the show, creatively, was really doing something that I hadn’t seen on any other show, particularly dealing with gay lives. As a gay man, in particular, I was very proud that there was a show that felt like it was dealing very honestly and openly with gay men and their lives, without putting them into a comedic mode.”

As a result, “ending that show was, on a personal level, very painful for me” but on a business level, the weak ratings “didn’t support us going forward”.

However there is still the promise of the two-hour Looking movie, which will air in early 2016, and will hopefully give us some closure of the story of Patrick, Agustin, Dom, Kevin and co.

First Poster For Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall Movie Arrives

August 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

stonewall-poster1Roland Emmerich may be best known for creating major disasters in everything from The Day After Tomorrow to 2012, but now the gay director is going for something that may be a little more Oscar friendly, with Stonewall.

He was apparently inspired to make the movie after working with young LGBT people in LA, which made him decide that having never really bothered to reflect his own sexuality in his films, it was time for a change.

Now the first poster has arrived, which puts the Stonewall Inn front and centre (perhaps to ward off the critcism that’s already started before anyone’s actually seen the movie, that it looks like it concentrates on young, largely white, cisgender gay men, despite drag queens, trans* and other queer people being front and centre in the 1969 protests – although we should perhaps wait until the film is complete before criticising it).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘STONEWALL is a drama about a fictional young man caught up during the 1969 Stonewall riots. Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine) is forced to leave behind friends and loved ones when he is kicked out of his parent’s home and flees to New York. Alone in Greenwich Village, homeless and destitute, he befriends a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the local watering hole The Stonewall Inn; however, this shady, mafia-run club is far from a safe-haven.  As Danny and his friends experience discrimination, endure atrocities and are repeatedly harassed by the police, we see a rage begin to build. This emotion runs through Danny and the entire community of young gays, lesbians and drag queens who populate the Stonewall Inn and erupts in a storm of anger. With the toss of a single brick, a riot ensues and a crusade for equality is born.’

It’ll be out later this year.

Fresh Black Mass Trailer – Johnny Depp is a major mobster

August 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

black-mass-main-poster Three-time Oscar nominee Johnny Depp (“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “Finding Neverland,” the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films) stars as notorious mobster James “Whitey” Bulger in the drama “Black Mass,” directed by Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”).

The film also stars Joel Edgerton (“The Great Gatsby,” “Zero Dark Thirty”) as FBI Agent John Connolly; Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Imitation Game”) as Whitey’s brother, powerful State Senator Billy Bulger; Rory Cochrane (“Argo”) as Steve Flemmi, Whitey’s closest partner in crime; Jesse Plemons (TV’s “Fargo”) as Whitey’s main henchman, Kevin Weeks; and Kevin Bacon (“Crazy, Stupid, Love.” TV’s “The Following”) as FBI Special Agent in Charge Charles McGuire.

In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster Jimmy Bulger (Depp) to collaborate with the FBI in order to eliminate their common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement while consolidating his power and becoming one of the most ruthless and dangerous gangsters in Boston history.

Cooper directed “Black Mass” from a screenplay by Mark Mallouk and Jez Butterworth, based on the book by Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill. It’s due out in the UK in November. [Read more…]

New We Are Your Friends Trailer – Zac Efron turns DJ

August 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

we-are-your-friends-posteIn a few weeks time Zac Efron wants to get the party started in We Are Your Friends, and to get us in the mood a new trailer for the movie has dropped.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS is a stylish coming of age drama about what it takes to find your sound. It follows a close-knit group of friends in LA, including Zac Efron’s character Cole, an aspiring young DJ trying to make it on the electronic music scene.

‘Named after Justice’s seminal electronic anthem, and featuring a cutting-edge soundtrack, WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS is the must-see party of the summer, set for UK release on August 27th.’

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (Cinema Review)

July 29, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner
Director: Christopher McQuarrie
Running Time: 131 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: July 31st 2015

It seems hard to believe that we are now on the fifth instalment in this franchise, and after 19 years it thankfully shows no signs of stopping. I should state that for me this is a hard film to review as I am a fan of the previous entries, and the latest plays it safe by sticking to the tried and tested formula of its predecessors.

Some reviewers are calling it the best entry in the franchise (which I can’t disagree with) and others have slated it for not adding anything new (which I also can’t disagree with). But for me the most important thing I want from any film is to be entertaining and fun, and this film definitely ticks both those boxes.

In Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and crew have to take down the Syndicate, an elite and ungoverned ‘anti IMF (Impossible Missions Force)’ that has set out to change the world through global attacks and assassinations. [Read more…]
