Big Gay Picture Show’s Top 10 LGBT- Themed Films Of 2014

December 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

top-10-lgbt-films-2014There is a lot of good work going on in the world of LGBT film (and to be honest, a lot of rubbish too), but due to the fact it’s a bit of a niche area, far fewer people are aware of it than there ought to be. So in an effort to help shine a light of those movies that anyone interested in queer cinema really ought to check out, we’ve put together this Top 10 of 2014’s LGBT-themed movies.

To be in for consideration, BGPS  needed to have reviewed the movie over the last 12 months. It should also be noted it’s not based purely on the score out of 10 we gave the movie at the time of the review, but also how we view it in hindsight and whether it’s stuck with us over the months. So take a look below to see what we think is the best of 2014. [Read more…]

the-guest-eacThe director and writer of You’re Next team up once more for one of the coolest and most acclaimed films of 2014. Boasting an awesomely badass standout performance from Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens, The Guest is one of the most talked about movies of the year and perfectly balances explosive action, wit and genius script writing.

Still struggling over the loss of their oldest son, the Peterson family find great comfort when David, a young charismatic former soldier, arrives at their home, claiming to be a friend and colleague of their late son. He is quickly welcomed into their lives, and begins helping out in unexpected ways that seem to change the family’s fortunes for the better.

A troubling and violent chain of events cause Anna, the oldest daughter, to suspect David’s real intentions, and she begins to realise that his motives are more extreme than the family could ever imagine. This steely-eyed stranger might appear to be a dream come true but as bullets start to fly and the body count rises, the Peterson family’s nightmare is just beginning.

Lesbian Themed Confidential, From The Director Of Loving Annabelle, Seeks Funding

December 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

confidential-kickstarterKatherine Brooks had a great success a few years ago with Loving Annabelle, which found plenty of fans and won awards at both mainstream and LGBT film festivals, as well as becoming one of the highest grossing gay-themed films of all time. Now she’s returning with Confidential, which for the next couple of days is hoping to reach its extended $120,000 goal on Kickstarter.

People You Know Season 1 Part 1 – The LGBT-friendly web series goes free, but just for Christmas

December 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

people-you-know-pilotBack in June, we posted the Pilot Episode of the web series People you Know, but if you wanted the rest of Season 1, Part 1, you had to pay. However as a bit of a festive gift – and for a very limited time – the other episode now available for free on the series’ webpage during the Christmas holidays. It’s only due to stay free for the next few days, so you’ll need to watch now!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘People You Know tackles the story of having it all in the most iconic, demanding and cutthroat city in the world, New York City. People you Know is a provocative series where the seven deadly sins corrupt a group of thirty-something urbanites, threatening their chance for happiness and love, as they strive to achieve their dreams while surviving the drama. At every turn, these friends get pushed to the limit and run the risk of losing all they hold dear.

Pandora Boxx, an alum of RuPaul’s Drag Race who was named by Entertainment Weekly “as their America’s Next Drag Superstar,” plays Adora Jarr, a twisted bartending version of herself. She has performed around the world first with the sold out Off-Broadway comedy show Lick this Boxx and debuted a new comedy show Missed Connections in New York City in September.

Steve Hayes plays Patrick Carter and is a three-time MAC award winner and veteran of NY stage. He is best remembered for his performances in the films Trick and Big Gay Musical. He also hosts his highly popular web show, Steve Hayes: Tired Old Queen at the Movies. Steve’s character is the master of sexual innuendo and always ready with a scandalous quip. He often acts as the voice of reason, even if he won’t listen to his own advice.’

“Each character has a moment in the season where they must decide if they are on the side of the saints or the sinners. The choices they make have a direct effect on everyone else, which makes it so much fun to watch,” says co-creator Baltimore Russell. “The thing that compels the characters to action is the same thing that might be also holding someone else back from achieving their dreams.”

“We see the characters love and scheme and fall victim to their own insecurities. It’s what really makes the show relatable,” says John Dylan DeLaTorre, co-creator. “Anyone can watch the show and find a character to identify with and then root for them to succeed. It’s that drama and intrigue that sets the show apart from other series.”

The current plan is to resume production of the final 7 episodes of season one in mid 2015.

All six episodes of season one, part one are currently available to view for free here.

Old Dogs & New Tricks Season 3 Episodes 6&7 – The boys are getting ready for a gay old Christmas

December 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

old-dog-s3-ep6Early in the new Season of Old Dogs & New Tricks the boys had their own Thanksgiving meal, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that it’s now time for an Old Dogs Christmas with episodes 6 and 7 – ‘Putting the X in X’mas’ and ‘All About Xmas Eve’

Things get potentially embarassing when Ross’ (David Pevsner) happy-ending massage, which was videotaped, is made public and has gone viral. Nathan (Leon Acord) leaps into action, and calls in “PR guru” Dan Karmel (Jeffrey Scott Basham) to handle the crisis.

However on a more Christmassy note, Brad (Curt Bonnem) puts the “ho” in “Ho Ho Ho!” when he tries out being a department store Santa Claus.

After all that Lydia (Amanda Gari) lures Nathan to a Christmas Eve cocktail with her and Andy (Andy Gates).  It’s a fun celebration, until Lydia & Andy leave. Afraid to be alone with his cellphone (and Damian’s number!), Nathan stays behind–and finds himself in the sites of a sexy, opportunistic bartender (Aaron Wimmer).

Is Nathan about to do something he’ll regret? Is Muscles leaving forever? Is Ross giving in to Dan’s advances? Is Brad at the end? All will (hopefully) be revealed when the Season finale premieres next week. [Read more…]

Entourage Movie Trailer – Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier & the boys are back

December 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

entourage-movie-trailerEver since Entourage ended on TV there’s been a lot of talk about a movie version, but it was – like the 24 film – one of those things that most people thought was unlikely to ever happen. However eventually everything was worked out and the entire main cast reunited to make the film.

Now the first teaser trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Entourage,” the much-anticipated big-screen version of the award-winning hit HBO series, reunites the show’s original cast, led by Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven.

‘Movie star Vincent Chase (Grenier), together with his boys, Eric (Connolly), Turtle (Ferrara) and Johnny (Dillon), are back…and back in business with super agent-turned-studio head Ari Gold (Piven). Some of their ambitions have changed, but the bond between them remains strong as they navigate the capricious and often cutthroat world of Hollywood.

‘Also starring are Billy Bob Thornton and Haley Joel Osment as father and son, Larsen and Travis McCredle. Returning cast from the series also includes Perrey Reeves as Ari Gold’s wife; Emmanuelle Chriqui as Sloan; Rhys Coiro as Billy Walsh; Debi Mazar as Vince’s publicist, Shauna; Rex Lee as Lloyd; Constance Zimmer as Dana Gordon; and Nora Dunn as Dr. Marcus. Emily Ratajkowski appears as herself. Rounding out the cast are Alan Dale, who appeared in the series, rapper Scott Mescudi, and Rhonda Rousey.

‘“Entourage” creator Doug Ellin is directing the feature film from his own screenplay.’

It’s due in cinemas next June. [Read more…]

Apropos Of Nothing: Straight Guys Test Out What It’s Like To Kiss Each Other For The First Time

December 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

straight-guys-kiss-for-the-first-timeThere are plenty of gay guys who have a bit of a fetish for those identifying as straight, but what you don’t see all that often is straight guys kissing one another.

Buzzfeed decided they needs to change that, as after last week getting straight best friends to take a look at one another naked for the first time, now they’re getting the straighties to kiss.

There may not exactly be a lot of tongue action going on, but the guys don’t seem as bothered as you might think. But then again, if it was something they couldn’t stand the thought of, they wouldn’t have agreed to be in the video in the first place.

Some of them could definitely do with a bit of practice, as I definitely they don’t kiss ladies like that, but as one of the guys says, it’s no big deal, “It’s like one step above a hug!”.

Take a look at the video below. [Read more…]

Exodus: God & Kings (Cinema Review)

December 23, 2014 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, John Turturro, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver
Director: Ridley Scott
Running Time: 150 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: December 26th 2014

Ridley Scott is one of the most revered directors of our time. While he’s worked in all sorts of genres, he’s had particular success with ground-breaking classic sci-fi such as Alien, as well historical biographies or fiction, which often turn out to be masterpieces such as the multi award winning Gladiator. There is no doubt that Scott is one of cinema’s greatest storytellers.

This time Ridley Scott brings to our screen possibly the third greatest story ever told (after the birth of Jesus and Noah) – the Exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt. This Old Testament tale of Moses was immortalised by Charlton Heston in 1956’s The Ten Commandments, but who could possibly fill this famous pair of sandals this time? Well, none other than Batman himself – Christian Bale. [Read more…]

Apropos Of Nothing: Colby Melvin & Quinn Jaxon Invite You To A Holiday Underwear Party In A New Video

December 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

holiday-underwear-partyI’ve always had one big problem with Christmas – it doesn’t involve enough hot guys in just their underwear, preferably dancing around and looking cute. Well, it looks like Santa brought me an early present, in the form to the video below.

And if, like me, you’ve been missing the unbelievably gorgeous Colby Melvin since he stopped appearing in Andrew Christian vids, you’ll be even happier, as he’s on hand for this promo from CheapUndies.

It is apparently an Underwear Celebration. I’m not entirely sure what one of those is, but whatever it is, I think I like it.

And just in case men in their undies alone isn’t enough, there’s some underwear ballet, singing, DJ-ing and trombone playing (no, not the kind you’re think of, you pervert) too, to show these guys are just about looking good while not wearing very much. [Read more…]
