Focus Trailer – Will Smith turns con man opposite Margot Robbie

October 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

focus-slideWill Smith has been very picky about what movies he’ll star in for the last few years, however he’s got a new one coming up called Focus, where he turns con man who take a younger grafter under his wing (and as you can see from the pic above, he’s certainly been hitting the gym).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Will Smith stars as Nicky, a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes romantically involved with novice con artist Jess (Margot Robbie). As he’s teaching her the tricks of the trade, she gets too close for comfort and he abruptly breaks it off. Three years later, the former flame—now an accomplished femme fatale—shows up in Buenos Aires in the middle of the high-stakes racecar circuit. In the midst of Nicky’s latest, very dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop… and the consummate con man off his game.’

It’s something a bit different for Will, whose previously been known to turn down roles if his character wasn’t an out-and-out good guy, and that certainly doesn’t seem to be the case here. The movie is due out early 2015. [Read more…]

Tommorowland Teaser Trailer – George Clooney gives us a glimpse of the future

October 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tomorrowland-teaser-posterDisney and director Brad Bird have been keeping their cards very close to their chest about Tomorrowland. However New York Comic Con is where they’re chosen to start the hype, keeping the intrigue by giving us a poster, pics and a teaser trailer that give us glimpses but don’t show us too much.

We also have an official plot synopsis, which reads: ‘From Disney comes two-time Oscar® winner Brad Bird’s riveting, mystery adventure “Tomorrowland,” starring Academy Award® winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.’

As you can see from the teaser, it looks like it could be pretty cool. Writer Damon Lindelof has compared the film to Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of a Third Kind, saying that it is all about discovery. If you’re wondering what this has to do with the part of Disneyland of the same name, the movie apparently suggests that it may have been a trip Walt Disney took to the enigmatic Tomorrowland that inspired his park.

The film is due out May 2015. Take a look at a couple of pics and the teaser trailer below. [Read more…]

Casey Affleck Up For Marathon Bombing Drama

October 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

casey-affleckCasey Affleck was born and raised in Boston, so it’s not too much of a surprise he’d he interested in signing up to produce and star in an adaptation of the book Boston Strong, about the Boston Marathon bombing, according to Variety.

The movie was put into development back in July 2013, but the book, Casey Sherman and Boston Herald reporter David Wedge, doesn’t just tell the story of the bombing and the manhunt that followed, but also attempts to capture the reaction of ordinary Bostonians to the events that overtook their city. It’s not clear who Affleck may play, however.

Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy (The Fighter) are on scripting duties. It isn’t known when the movie might shoot.

October 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s the opening night of the BFI London Film Festival and kicking things off is a gala screening of The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as gay computing pioneer and codebreaker Alan Turing.

Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Mark Strong and Charles Dance, should all be at the European Premiere in London’s Leicester Square.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: The Imitation Game is a nail-biting race against time following Alan Turing (pioneer of modern-day computing and credited with cracking the German Enigma code) and his brilliant team at Britain’s top-secret code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. Turing, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, was the eventual victim of an unenlightened British establishment, but his work and legacy live on.

Go-Go Boy Interrupted Episode 1 – Getting off the dancefloor in the new gay-themed comedy web series

October 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

go-go-boy-interrupted-ep1-slideHere’s one to make anyone over 30 feel pretty prehistoric, although the set-up suggests that as the new web series Go-Go Boy Interrupted continues, gay culture’s youth and hot body obsession may come under the spotlight.

The show follows 29-year-old Danny, whose been a go-go boy for years, living a life of casual drug use and drunken blackouts. However 29 is old for dancing on the stage in a twink-focussed club and after he throws up while on the job, he may have to look for a new career.

The film is loosely based on creator/star Jim Fowlie’s own life. He says on the show’s website, “The concept for Go-Go Boy Interrupted was born from my time as a go-go dancer while I pursued my BFA in Acting from USC (both experiences were major letdowns in terms of “real world skills”). But I was fascinated with the Go-Go scene: the larger than life drag queens to the out of control 19-year-old party boys, there was so much comedy potential.”

The series started as a live sketch show at the Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles, and is now making it online – and keep an eye out for Drew Droege as a great drag queen. The first episode is now available watch it below), with a new ep. due out each Tuesday. [Read more…]

October 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gale-harold-van-hansisIt’s murder mystery time in West Hollywood Kiss Me, Kill Me, the new film from Going Down in LALA Land director Caspar Andreas, which has lined up an impressive cast of LGBT and gay-friendly actors. However it needs your help, as the movie has launched a Kickstarter campaign hoping to raise an ambitious $100,000 to get it onto screens.

The movie will see Gale Harold in his first gay role since Queer As Folk, starring alongside As The World Turns and Eastsiders’ Van Hansis. They’ll be joined by such sexy and talented folks as Willam Belli (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Kit Williamson (Eastsiders, Mad Men), Independent Spirit nominee Yolonda Ross (Treme), Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Brianna Brown (Devious Maids), Jonathan Lisecki (Gayby), Michael Maize (True Blood), Craig Robert Young (NCIS: Los Angeles), Jackie Monahan (Foxy Merkins, Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same), Matthew Ludwinski (Going Down in LALA Land) and Allison Lane (Going Down in LALA Land).

With a script by Such Good People’s David Michael Barrett, Kiss Me Kill Me is described as ‘a contemporary Alfred Hitchcock/Agatha Christie-style “who-done-it,” with the mystery centered on Dusty who confronts his unfaithful boyfriend and blacks-out, only to wake up to find the boyfriend murdered and he’s the prime suspect.’

“I’m beyond thrilled about the fantastic cast we have assembled,” says director Andreas. “That we managed to attach such great talent is a testament to David’s sensational screenplay. I can’t wait to get started on the production and get to work with these wonderful actors, including my two Going Down in LA-LA Land stars, Matthew and Allison.”

As nearly always with crowdfunding, if you help the film out there are perks on offer ranging from digital downloads or being an extra, to a speaking part and different producing levels. If it sounds like something you might want to see, take a look at the funding video below and then head over to Kickstarter. [Read more…]

This Year’s London GFEST – Gaywise FESTival Programme Announced For 10th-22nd November

October 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Way-He-Looks-slideWhile there are quite a few LGBT film festivals and events for the likes of gay writers and performance artists, not that many bring together all sorts of queer artists from across the cultural spectrum under one umbrella dedicated to promoting LGBTQI art. However The GFEST Gaywise Festival does just that.

The event was founded in 2007 by London-based arts charity, Wise Thoughts, and has since become a major annual event in UK’s cultural calendar and a key commissioning platform for emerging and established LGBTQI artists.

This year’s event runs from 10th-22nd November in venues across London, with a world-class programme of film, dance, art and performance, this year responding to the festival theme of Myths and Mythology.

Highlights of this year’s line-up include an exclusive British screening of Brazil’s 2015 BAFTA submission, The Way He Looks by Daniel Ribeiro; the global premiere of a newly commissioned work by renowned South-Asian dance guru, Justin McCarthy; the London premiere of Brace by acclaimed independent-British filmmaker, Jake Graf; award winning cabaret from Bird La Bird and Mizz Kimberly; and newly commissioned works form the UK’s foremost feminist artist, Sadie Lee, among others.

The Myths and Mythology theme seeks to explore the commonly held ideas and misconceptions surrounding LGBTQI communities across the globe. The long-term goal of the festival is to provide LGBTQI artists with a platform for expression while developing audiences for LGBTQI among both Gay and Straight audiences.

The festival’s Artistic Director Niranjan Kamatkar comments, “GFEST 2014 brings together an inspirational line-up of film-makers, artists, and  performance dancers, each united in their aim to dispel the modern  myths and stereotypes surrounding LGBTQI cultures. Working with the commissioned artists to showcase their work at this year’s festival has been truly inspirational. The GFEST platform for expression demonstrates that arts can be used to build bridges between gay and straight communities for generations to come.”

You can find out more over at the Gaywise Festival website, and you can take a look at a showreel preview below. Alternatively click here to download a full brochure. [Read more…]

Win A Great Dolphin Tale 2 Prize Pack!

October 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dolphin-tale-2-competition2Inspired by true events, “Dolphin Tale 2” continues the story of brave dolphin Winter, whose miraculous rescue and rehabilitation – thanks to the invention of a groundbreaking prosthetic tail — made her a symbol of perseverance to people around the world and inspired the 2011 family hit movie “Dolphin Tale.”

The film reunites the entire main cast, led by Harry Connick, Jr., Ashley Judd, Nathan Gamble, Kris Kristofferson, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, Austin Stowell, Austin Highsmith and Morgan Freeman.

Several years have passed since young Sawyer Nelson and the dedicated team at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, rescued Winter, a young dolphin who lost her tail after being entangled in a crab trap.  With the help of Dr. Cameron McCarthy, who developed a unique prosthetic tail for Winter, they saved her life against all odds.  In turn, she helped save the Aquarium — as people came from far and wide to see the courageous dolphin firsthand, enabling CMA to greatly expand their mission to “rescue, rehabilitate and, when possible, release” injured animals.

Yet their fight is not over.  Winter’s surrogate mother, the elderly dolphin Panama, passes away, leaving Winter alone and grieving, unwilling to engage with anyone, even her best friend, Sawyer.  However, the loss of Panama may have even greater repercussions for CMA.  The USDA warns Clay they will have to move Winter from the Aquarium because regulations require these social creatures to be paired.  If they don’t find a female companion for her — one that she accepts — CMA will lose their beloved Winter.  But as time runs out, there may still be Hope…

We’re giving away five Dolphin shaped duffel bags containing a badge, tattooes, sticker, pencil case, magnet puzzle and a t-shirt.

Dolphin Tale 2 is in cinemas now.

The Gays Movie Trailer – Things get camp and a little crazy for a super-gay family

October 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-gays-movie-slideIf this trailer is anything to go by, the new movie, The Gays, is certainly going to be very camp, but may also have a few good points to make about being gay in a modern world – even if it’s not going to deal with them in a completely politically correct way. It looks like it might be a little sexy too.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Wouldn’t it be great if your parents taught you how to hold your own in a fag-eat-fag world? Rod Gay and Bob Gay-Paris are the streetwise gay mentors you never had. Come revel in the raunchy wisdom they pass along to their two gay sons — Alex and Tommy — advice that will empower the boys to bend the world over, lube it up, and snap one off!’

Dick: The Documentary Trailer – Looking at men’s relationship with what’s between their legs (NSFW)

October 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dick-the-documentary-posterMen can certainly have a complicated relationship with their penises, although it’s one that’s not often dealt with head on. Dick: The Documentary aims to challenge that, with guys getting nude and talking about their bits and difficulties and joys it’s given them, and due to how the participants were found it’s got a rather LGBT focus.

Take a look at the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In August 2008, filmmaker Brian Fender used Craigslist to invite strangers into his living room to strip down and reveal themselves physically and emotionally through personal stories about their relationship to their penises. Fender interviewed a vast cross-section of naked men about their prized appendage: from monks to transsexuals to ex-marines to designers, ranging in age from 21 to 80. Hoping to demystify, illuminate, and even celebrate this “member” in our society, this DIY documentary is a candid exploration of what it means to have a dick. Mr. Fender described the film: “it’s touching, it’s funny, it’s honest … an honest depiction of what it means from first perceptions all the way to the loss of function that men experience … I thought that they were incredibly thoughtful.” After finishing the first round of edits, the film played at selected festivals and for special screenings before being released as an Internet Premier Presentation.’

Fender recently told Huffpo, ‘I found that the men who participated were very thoughtful. I didn’t get any sexist thugs, which I was kind of disappointed about. I assume that men who are more conservative and judge sexual expression beyond the heterosexual paradigm — and would probably call these men, myself included, a pervert — would, I imagine, have less healthy sexual attitudes and feel threatened by the questions this film asks. But as educated as my subjects were, many of them told me that this was the first time they had said these things out loud and that they found it cathartic. I had also wanted to talk about using your dick as a weapon, but I got the feeling from these men that they weren’t sexually aggressive. The one thing that is funny is that there isn’t a glimmer of consensus about the dick. The opinions are as varied as the penises themselves.’

Those in the US can watch the documentary at IndiePix. [Read more…]
