New Pics Of Benedict Cumberbatch As Gay Codebreaker Alan Turing In The Imitation Game

June 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

imitation-game-pic2Back in December the first image of Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game was released. Now EW has brought us a couple more, as well at the actor’s brief thoughts on playing the character.

Turing is a pioneer of modern-day computing who is credited with helping crack the fiendish German codes, such as Enigma, during the Second World War. As Cumberbatch says, “He’s an exceptional man. I hope this film does justice to this unsung hero.”

The film chronicles the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team at Britain’s top-secret code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park. Turing, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, was the eventual victim of an unenlightened British Establishment.

Tragically in the 1950s Turing admitted to the police he was gay while reporting a robbery, believing they would protect him and catch those who’d stolen from him. Instead it was him who found himself in court. After he was convicted he was shunned by the establishment and despite his incredible mind he found himself pushed to the sidelines. He committed suicide (although some say it was an accident) not too long afterwards.

Cumberbatch stars alongside Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance, Allen Leech and Matthew Beard. The film currently has an Oscar-bait November release date set.

There’s not guarantee Gyllenhaal will sign on, as he’s due to go into production on the boxing drama Southpaw next month and is currently weighing his options for what to star in after that.

Zachary Quinto, Jonathan Groff & Jesse Tyler Ferguson Will Lead A Starry Line-up For Musical Gala

June 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zachary-quintoIf you like celebs, the music of Marvin Hamlisch and you are very rich, then the One Thrilling Combination gala on June 23rd is the place for you. The gala will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Hamlisch’s LGBT-inclusive A Chorus with a selection of tunes from the show and Marvin’s other efforts, such as the musicals They’re Playing Our Song, The Goodbye Girl, and the Sweet Smell of Success, as well as the film The Way We Were.

There are plenty of gay stars lining up for the charity event, with Zachary Quinto, his ex Jonathan Groff, Jesse Tyler Ferguson Billy Porter, and Claybourne Elder all set to perform. They’ll be joined by the likes of Martha Plimpton, John Lithgow, Sutton Foster, Joshua Bell, Lindsay Mendez, Krysta Rodriguez, Marissa McGowan, Laura Shoop, Peter Dugan, Nikka Graff Lanzarone, Jessica Wu, Mylinda Hull, Brooke Sunny Moriber, and Nicole Lewis.

It’s all in an effort to raise funds for the Public Theater, where A Chorus Line first debuted. Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis commented, “Marvin Hamlisch was one of the great spirits of American music, and A Chorus Line was a show that changed everything about how musicals were made. It also created the Public Theater we cherish today. This gala will honor that amazing show and thank Marvin Hamlisch for his extraordinary gifts to us all.”

That’s certainly an impressive list and it should be one hell of a night. There are a few drawbacks though, one if that you’ll need to be able to get to the Delacorte Theater in New York City’s Central Park on June 23rd, and the second is that the cheapest ticket costs $650. At least for that you’ll get cocktails, dinner, and a dessert reception.

Hamilisch died in 2012 shortly after completing his part of the music for Behind The Candelabra.

Bryan Singer Accuser Drops One Of His Sex Abuse Lawsuits

June 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michael F. Egan & Jerry Herman

Michael F. Egan & Jerry Herman

Following the allegations that Bryan Singer had raped and sexually abused Michael Egan when the young man was underage in the late 90s, Egan launched three more lawsuits alleging sex abuse against TV exec Garth Ancier, former Disney TV president David Neuman and Broadway producer Gary Goddard.

Now Egan and his lawyer, Jerry Herman, have voluntarily dismissed the lawsuit again Neuman. No reasons have been given for the decision, but it follows Neuman’s motion last month for dismissal of the suit against him, which included Egan’s testimony from a previous 2003 sex abuse suit (against other people) that Neuman “never acted improperly around me or toward me,” and that he had not been present when Egan was involved in anything sexual.

That earlier testimony under oath would have made it extremely difficult to get a conviction and may have ended up being prejudicial to the other cases.

Neuman’s lawyer, Patricia Glaser, commented, “This evening the completely unfounded and 100% false charges against our client David A. Neuman, were dismissed. Today’s news affirms to everyone that David Neuman’s fine reputation deserves to stand strong and was attacked with no merit.

‘In as much as we celebrate the truth this evening, we will hold accountable those who wrongly created the hurt and damage by making outrageous, untruthful assertions that cannot be undone. We question seriously the underlying prejudices and motives in targeting David Neuman with this groundless and defamatory action.

‘Today’s dismissal exposes this despicable lawsuit for what it really was:  an unethical smearing and failed shakedown of a completely innocent man.’

As things stand the other lawsuits are still in progress, although all the accused men have filed motions to have the suits dismissed, which will be heard by a judge in Hawaii (where the lawsuit were filed due to an extension of the statute of limitations there) on July 28th.

Straight Guys Trailer – New documentary looks at why straight guys do gay porn (NSFW)

June 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Straight Guys Documentary Bravo DeltaStraight guys doing gay porn is an oddly interesting subject and a lot of people have a lot of opinions about it? Some think ‘gay for pay’ cheapens sexuality. Others think the whole idea is a misnomer and the guys weren’t really straight to begin with. Some don’t like it as they feel you can tell the guys aren’t into it, but there are plenty more who like it so much that sites specifically about straight guys having sex with another is one of the biggest subgenres of gay porn.

But if you are straight, why would you do gay porn? Are these all desperate young men with so little money they’ll do anything to try and keep the lights on? Or are there more varied and interesting reasons about why people would do it?

The documentary Straight Guys, which premiered a couple of day ago at the Doc Now Festival in Toronto, takes a look at the subject, and we can get a taste of it with the trailer. Be warned though it’s pretty NSFW, with plenty of activity your boss may not be that impressed with you watching.

It certainly looks like it could be an interesting (and very hot) documentary, featuring the likes of Conner Habib, the guys of Chaosmen and the insanely sexy Bravo Delta. The last of those certainly challenges the stereotypes, as Bravo is far being the desperate hustler or total slut many people dismiss porn performers as. He’s a trained engineer who fits in porn when he has the time. It’s certainly not because he desperately needs the money. It is true though that since he started doing porn, his sexuality has become more fluid (and if nothing else, writing this story makes me realise I know far more about Bravo Delta than I thought I did).

Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Jonathan Groff Reveals Details About Shooting Looking Gay Sex Scenes

June 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Have you ever had to wear an ‘anal cover’? And no, we’re not talking underpants.

Well, Jonathan Groff has. The actor took part in ‘Variety Studio’, which is as much a chance to advertise Samsung Phones as talk about the worlds of TV and film, but it did allow Groff to offer some intimate details about shooting the sex scenes in Looking (most of those who watched the show will remembering him bottoming for Russell Tovey).

And yes, apparently that involved wearing an ‘anal cover’, whatever one of them is. Unfortunately Samsung might not have liked it if he got into much detail so only gets a few sentence to discuss it (we’re presuming that’s the reason, not that the others present didn’t want to hear far more about Jonathan’s ass).

Take a look at the clip above, as well as a pic from the aftermath of the need for an anal cover below. [Read more…]

Are You Here Trailer – Owen Wilson & Zach Galifianakis want an inheritance

June 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Mad Men coming to an end, creator Matt Weiner is eying the big screen. His feature debut is out this summer, Are We Here, and now the trailer is here.

Weiner has lined up Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, and Amy Poehler to star in the film. There have been some troubles for the movie though, as the reviews from TIFF were pretty awful. Apparently it’s been significantly re-edited since then, but it’s not known whether that has helped sort out the problems.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When his off-the-grid best buddy Ben Baker inherits his estranged father’s fortune, womanizing local weatherman Steve Dallas joins forces with him to battle the legal challenge brought by Ben’s formidable sister.’ [Read more…]

Emma Watson & Miles Teller May be Getting Musical In La La Land

June 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emma-watsonEmma Watson and Miles Teller might not be the first people you’d think of for a musical, but it appears they want to show off their skills as TheWrap reports they are in early talks to star in writer-director Damien Chazelle’s La La Land.

The film is about a lonely, aspiring actress (Emma Watson) who desperately trying to find her way in Los Angeles. She meets jazz pianist Sebastian (Miles Teller) and they quickly fall in love. However they soon realise that balancing their art and their relationship isn’t as easy as they thought.

Damien Chazelle’s ‘lookbook’ for the movie says, ‘I’d like to make a contemporary musical about LA, starting with the LA we know but slowly building to a vision of the city as romantic metropolis – one that is actually worthy of the dreams it inspires. I’d like to make a musical about the way L.A.’s peculiar rhythms can push its residents to the edge of their emotions – be they hope, desperation or love. Think the kind of teetering-toward-madness you see in The Graduate or Boogie Nights, and imagine if you were to push that further. In this case, the city pushes its residents all the way: it pushes them into song.

‘The characters of this movie are just people trying to make it. One thing most movies about struggling L.A. actors and musicians miss is the poetry of their struggle: these are blue-collar folks working day in and day out to make something happen. What I’m interested in is pitting their yearnings and their ambitions against the musical genre. After all, musicals are all about the push-and-pull between reality and fantasy; the heroes of this film, because of their big dreams, are constantly poised on that edge.

‘At its core, this is a movie about artists in love – and what it means to be an artist in love in arguably the most competitive city on the planet. How do you juggle the need to find success as an artist with the need to share oneself with another human being? And how do you do so in a place where every poster, every street corner and every sign remind you of the glories just beyond reach? L.A. is the “Dream Factory”, and to me there’s something swooningly romantic about that: all those unsung songs and unrealized ideas clouding the air. By casting an affectionate eye on a pair of young hopefuls, while aspiring to the kind of full-fledged romanticism you hardly ever see in today’s movies, I hope to capture the spirit of the city I now call home, and make a movie that feels both classical and urgent-and, yes, intrinsically L.A.’

Miles Teller previously starred in Chazelle’s breakthrough Sundance hit Whiplash, which won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award.

Lupita Nyong’o To Star In Americanah, With Brad Pitt Producing

June 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lupita-nyongoA Best Supporting Actress Oscar can be a bit of a mixed blessing – if you look through the list of winners there are a surprising amount whose blossoming career pretty much stalled the moment they won – but Lupita Nyong’o doesn’t look like she’ll be amongst them.

Earlier this week she signed on to appear in Star Wars: Episode VII, and now THR reports that Lupita Nyong’o is developing Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Americanah as a starring vehicle for herself. She will also produce, and she’s getting some help from 12 Years A Slave’s Brad Pitt on that score too (at the moment there’s no suggestion he will also star.

Americanah is a love story about young Nigerians Ifemelu and Obinze; ‘a romance that spans continents, visas, phone cards and breakups, while exploring the cruelties and the humor of both the modern immigrant experience and the difficulty of finding your way home. The novel was the winner of the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction and was selected as one of the 10 best books of the year by The New York Times Book Review, the BBC and Newsday.’

Nyong’o commented, “It is such an honor to have the opportunity to bring Ms. Adichie’s brilliant book to the screen. Page after page I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze’s stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humor and heart.”

Denzel Washington & Director Antoine Fuqua Circling Magnificent Seven Remake

June 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

denzel-washingtonThe first time Denzel Washington teamed up with director Antoine Fuqua, with Training Day, he won an Oscar. Their latest collaboration, the upcoming The Equalizer, is also expected to be a big success.

Now they’re thinking of making another movie together, and they’re taking on a classic in the process. Variety reports that they’re circling the long-gestating remake of The Magnificent Seven.

News of the project first emerged back in August 2012, when Nic Pizzolatto (who’s since gone on to major success with True Detective) signed on to write the script. Tom Cruise attached himself to star at that time. He dropped out of the remake in December, just as John Lee Hancock (Saving Mr. Banks) came on board to rewrite the script.

1960’s The Magnificent Seven is loosely inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai and follows seven old west gunslingers (Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, James Coburn and Horst Buchholz) who are hired by a small Mexican village to defend their homes from the villainous Calvera (Eli Wallach). It’s not known who closely the new version will stick to that.
