Kick-Ass 2 International Trailer – More fun from the masked vigilantes

The recently released US trailer for Kick-Ass 2 concentrated on the manic action and masked vigilante insanity of the movie, but this new UK promo is a little quieter, with a bit more plot and a bigger emphasis on Hit Girl’s story in the film, where she has to deal with trying to be a normal teen, despite having been brought up an ass-kicking superhero.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2.  After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol.  When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

‘When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave.  With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.  Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own.  With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

‘Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets,  the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad.  But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.’

It hits UK cinemas on July 19th, before it hits the US on August 16th.

Juliette Binoche In Talks For Godzilla

juliette-binocheWith the reboot of Godzilla gearing up to shoot soon, director Gareth Edwards is busy pulling together the cast (something made more difficult by the fact the script isn’t finished and most people won’t sign on until they seen the final screenplay). The latest to circle the project is Juliette Binoche, according to Variety.

Aaron Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston are still in negotiations to star, but no character details have been revealed quite yet. Gareth Edwards is directing from a screenplay that is currently being rewritten by The Walking Dead creator Frank Darabont. David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Rises) and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) wrote previous drafts of the script. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, and Mary Parent are producing for Legendary.

Godzilla comes to theaters May 16th, 2014.

Bryan Cranston & Elizabeth Olsen Circling Godzilla

Bryan-CranstonWhile Godzilla has been in the works for a couple of years, it feels as if everything’s been put into a bit of a last minute rush, with Frank Darabont still rewriting the script and only one star attached at the moment – Aaron Johnson – even though production is supposed to start in Canada in March.

Now a couple more potential cast members are circling the project, with Variety reporting that Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen are in early talks to star in the movie. However, it’s unlikely that any deals will be finalised until the completed screenplay has been turned in – which certainly does leave everything until the last minute.

No character details or plot information has been released, so we don’t know who Cranston, Olsen, or indeed Aaron Johnson will be playing, although earlier info has said this plans to be a more ‘realistic’ take on the Godzilla idea. Gareth Edwards is directing, with a May 16th, 2014 release already set.

First Official Kick Ass 2 Pic Arrives, Featuring Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes

kick-ass-2-pic1There have been numerous set photos from Kick-Ass 2 that have shown up online, but now we get our first official look at the movie, via EW (scanned in by BillKuchman), showing us both Aaron Johnson’s title character and newbie Jim Carrey and Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Here’s the tagline for the image: ‘In the action-comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2 (out June 28), the eponymous hero (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, right) joins a superhero team called Justice Forever, led by Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey, left). Chloe Grace Moretz reprises her role as Mindy, but has “given up Hit Girl and is trying to be a normal teenage,” says Jeff Wadlow, who picks up the directing reigns from Matthew Vaughn.’

Oh, and if you haven’t notices, take a closer look at the dog.

In this sequel, after Kick-Ass’ bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes, our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist — reborn as The Mother F%&*^r — only the blade-wielding Hit Girl can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire-leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. It hits cinemas July 19th.

Aaron Johnson Offered The Lead In Godzilla

Aaron Johnson

Aaron Johnson

In the last couple of weeks there’s been much talk about the fact Godzilla is gearing up to shoot this spring, but so far the movie has no cast. It appears they’re planning the remedy that, as Deadline reports that Aaron Johnson has been offered the lead in the movie.

Apparently the young Brit wants to do it, but nothing will be set in stone until a more final script is available. Earlier this week The Walking Dead creator Frank Darabont signed up to rewrite the screenplay, so no deal will be signed until Frank has done his work. David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Rises), Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son), and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) have previously worked on the screenplay.

There’s also a legal battle brewing over producer credit and compensation. Ealier this week Warner and Legendary Pictures dropped Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Doug Davison from the film. Apparently expecting a legal battle that could delay production, Warner has pre-emptively sued the men, saying the trio didn’t do enough work on the movie to deserve the money they’d earn if they’d got a producing credit. Instead they want to pay them just $25,0000.

It’s expected Lee, Lin and Davison will fight back, as they were involved early on in securing the rights and introducing the first screenwriter. They’re likely to say that while their plot ideas weren’t used, there’d be no movie at all without the groundwork they laid down. We’ll have to see how the legal battle pans out.

Godzilla comes to cinemas May 16th, 2014.

Crush Of The Day: Aaron Johnson

With Albert Nobbs hitting DVD in the UK today and Anna Karenina out in cinemas on Friday, it’s the perfect time to dribble all over some pictures of the yummy Aaron Johnson.

The 22-year-old raised a few eyebrows when he started dating the 23-years older Sam Taylor Wood, his director in Nowhere Boy, when he was only 19. However the relationship is still going strong, with the pair marrying in June. They’ve already got two kids together.

Johnson got his first big break in Angus Thongs And Perfect Snogging, before raising his profile with Nowhere Boy and Kick Ass, and just this year he’s been in Albert Nobbs, Anna Karenina and Oliver Stone’s Savages. The future certainly looks bright for the handsome young actor, although I have a feeling his slightly arrogant air on-screen may need tempering if he’s really going to hit the heights.

Glenn Close spent 30 years trying to get Albert Nobbs to the big screen, ever since she played the title role in the stage version off-Broadway in 1982. Finally she’s gotten her wish. She doesn’t just star in the movie, she’s also produced, co-adapted the script and even wrote the lyrics for the Sinead O’Connor song that plays over the end credits.

She is excellent as Albert, a waiter/butler in a late-19th Century Irish hotel who, despite being born a woman, has spent the last 30 years living as a man – a secret he has kept from absolutely everybody. He thinks the truth may get out after he’s forced to share his bed for the night with a painter called Hubert Page. [Read more...]
