July 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

girl-on-the-train-pic1-slidePaula Hawkins’ novel, The Girl On The Train, turned into a bit of a publishing phenomenon, which inevitably meant a movie adaptation would follow. Now the first trailer for the movie has arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Justin Theroux, Haley Bennett, Luke Evans, Edgar Ramirez and Allison Janney star in The Girl on the Train, from director Tate Taylor (The Help, Get on Up) and producer Marc Platt (Bridge of Spies, Into the Woods). In the thriller, Rachel (Blunt), who is devastated by her recent divorce, spends her daily commute fantasising about the seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day, until one morning she sees something shocking happen there and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds.

‘Based on Paula Hawkins’ bestselling novel, The Girl on the Train is adapted for the screen by Erin Cressida Wilson and Taylor. The film’s executive producers are Jared LeBoff and Celia Costas, and it will be released by Entertainment One in the UK.’

New The Huntsman: Winter’s War Trailer – Chris Hemsworth & Charlize Theron return to fantasy

March 22, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

huntsman-winter-war-slide1It’s back to the fairytale realm for The Huntsman: Winter’s War, which has just dropped a new trailer. As with previous promos, it’s difficult not to get the feeling you’re watching a live-action, more grown-up version of Frozen, and it’s tough to know whether that was the intention or not.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The fantastical world of Snow White and the Huntsman expands to reveal how the fates of The Huntsman Eric and Queen Ravenna are deeply and dangerously intertwined. Chris Hemsworth and Oscar® winner Charlize Theron return to their roles in The Huntsman Winter’s War, an epic action-adventure in which they are joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain, as well as director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. Producer Joe Roth (Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland) once again leads the team in a breathtaking new tale nested in the legendary saga.

‘Long before the evil Queen Ravenna (Theron) was thought vanquished by Snow White’s blade, she watched silently as her sister, Freya (Blunt), suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom. With Freya’s ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen—including Eric (Hemsworth) and warrior Sara (Chastain)—only to find that her prized two defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love.

‘When Freya learns of her sister’s demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the Magic Mirror home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power. But once she discovers Ravenna can be resurrected from its golden depths, the wicked sisters threaten this enchanted land with twice the darkest force it’s ever seen. Now, their amassing army shall prove undefeatable…unless the banished huntsmen who broke their queen’s cardinal rule can fight their way back to one another.’

The film hits cinemas April 4th. [Read more…]

Hamilton Star Lin-Manuel Miranda Is Joining The Mary Poppins Sequel

February 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lin-Manuel-MirandaA few days ago it was revealed that Emily Blunt was in talks to play Mary Poppins in Disney’s planned new take on the classic nanny character (they’re keen to say it’s not a sequel, even though it is). Now she may have the person who would be the equivalent of her Dick Van Dyke, as Variety reports that Lin-Manuel Miranda, best known for starring in (and writing the songs for) the Broadway hit Hamilton, is in negotiations for the film.

Assuming he signs on, Miranda would play ‘Jack, a lamplighter resembling the character of Bert, who was famously played by Dick Van Dyke’.

While the 1960s movie was mainly based in the first of Travers’ books, the new movie will explore Mary’s further adventures with the Banks family and beyond as illustrated by Travers’ seven additional novels. The most recent reports suggest it will see Mary returning to help a grown-up Michael and Jane Banks after a major events takes place in their lives.

Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Smash) will write the songs, and the film apparently has the support of original Mary Poppins co-composer, Richard Sherman. Rob Marshall is set to direct.

Chris Hemsworth, Jessica Chastain, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt Get A New The Huntsman: Winter’s War Poster

February 23, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Huntsman-Winters-War-poster-slideThe big budget ‘summer’ movie season is starting early this year, with the likes of Batman v Superman on March 25th and The Huntsman: Winter’s War on April 4th. The latter has now released its final official poster, which you can see below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Discover the story that came before Snow White in The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Chris Hemsworth and Oscar® winner Charlize Theron return to their roles from Snow White and the Huntsman, joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain.

‘Theron stars as evil Queen Ravenna, who betrays her good sister Freya (Blunt) with an unforgivable act, freezing Freya’s heart to love and unleashing in her an icy power she never knew she possessed. Retreating to a kingdom far to the north, Freya raises an army of Huntsmen as her protectors, with the only rule that no two of them should ever fall in love.

‘As a war for domination escalates between the two queens, the hero standing between them is Freya’s most elite Huntsman, Eric (Hemsworth). Alongside fellow warrior Sara (Chastain)—the only woman who has ever captured his heart—Eric must help Freya vanquish her sister…or Ravenna’s wickedness will rule for eternity.’

Emily Blunt May Be Practically Perfect As The New Mary Poppins

February 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emily-blunt

A few months ago Disney revealed that they were working on a new Mary Poppins movie, with Rob Marshall directing. Since then many having been waiting for the news that Emily Blunt had been offered the central role – as she’s just about the only person around who seems a good fit – and now it’s happened, as Variety reports she’s in talks for the movie.

While the 1960s movie was mainly based in the first of Travers’ books, the new movie will explore Mary’s further adventures with the Banks family and beyond as illustrated by Travers’ seven additional novels. Disney has been keen to stress that this shouldn’t be seen as a sequel, instead being a completely new take on the characters set 20 years after the original. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Smash) will write the songs, and the film apparently has the support of original Mary Poppins co-composer, Richard Sherman.

There is a possible issues with Blunt taking the role though, which is that Disney is apparently keen to get it into production as soon as it can, but the actress is currently pregnant, so they’ll have to see whether they can shuffle their schedules around that.

New The Huntsman: Winter’s War Trailer – Chris Hemsworth must deal with warring sisters

February 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

huntsman-winter-war-slide1There’s no Kristen Stewart in The Huntsman: WInter’s War, as this is what happened before the events of Snow White. And as this new trailer shows, that involves warring sisters, played by Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt.

First Pics Of Emily Blunt In The Girl On The Train Movie Adaptation

December 31, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

girl-on-the-train-pic1Paula Hawkins’ The Girl On The Train has been a huge hit as a book, so it’s not surprising at all that Hollywood has picked it up and is making a movie. The film is chugging forwards quickly, wth Emily Blunt in the lead role and Justin Theroux, Rebecca Ferguson, Édgar Ramírez, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, and Lisa Kudrow co-starring.

The book follows ‘Rachel, [who] takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

‘And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?’

The novel has been compared to Gone Girl and also has shades of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple tale, 4.50 From Paddington. For the movie the action has been moved from Britain to the US (although Blunt will still be British). Tate Taylor (The Help) directs, with the movie due out next summer.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War Trailer – Chris Hemsworth & Charlize Theron head back to a fantasy world

November 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

huntsman-winters-war-character-poster5-slideAfter some character posters a couple of days ago (and some new ones you can see below), comes the trailer for the sequel, The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Snow White (Kristen Stewart) is gone, but both Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are back, joined by Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The fantastical world of Snow White and the Huntsman expands to reveal how the fates of The Huntsman Eric and Queen Ravenna are deeply and dangerously intertwined. Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt & Jessica Chastain Get The Huntsman: Winter’s War Character Posters

November 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

huntsman-winters-war-character-poster2-slideSnow White And The Huntsman star Kristen Stewart may have been let go (having an affair with the married director of the first movie probably didn’t help her chances of getting the call for the sequel), but Chris Hemsworth returns as the Huntsman and Charlize Theron as The Wicked Queen for The Huntsman: Winter’s War.

And yes, that is a new title, as previously it was just called The Huntsman.

A set of character posters has been released, which also feature Emily Blunt as The Ice Queen and Jessica Chastain as The Warrior, with a trailer promised for Wednesday.

Now a vast amount has been released about the plot, but Variety reports that, ‘Blunt plays Theron’s sister, who flees their kingdom after suffering a betrayal. She gains the ability to freeze any enemy, becoming an ice queen who holes up in a wintery palace. Hemsworth and Chastain play her trusted lieutenants. But they run afoul of their queen when they refuse to follow orders and harden their hearts to love.’

As the trade mag notes, ‘the whole thing sounds like “Frozen” with battle scenes’, and they’re not wrong.

It’ll be in UK cinemas April 22nd 2016. [Read more…]
