Gringo Trailer – David Oyelowo is a businessman whose life gets turned upside down

December 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Things are not going well for David Oyelowo in the upcoming thriller, Gringo. The movie has just released its first trailer, revealing what could be quite a fun film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Combining dark comedy with dramatic intrigue, Gringo joyrides across the border into Mexico, where all is not as it seems for mild-mannered American businessman Harold Soyinka (David Oyelowo). Crossing the line from citizen to criminal, Harold tangles with duplicitous business partners, Mexican drug lords, international mercenaries, and the DEA. As he attempts to survive in one of the most dangerous places on earth, the question lingers: is this ordinary man in way over his head, or is he two steps ahead? Directed by Nash Edgerton, who made his feature length directorial debut with the acclaimed Australian thriller The Square, Gringo also stars Joel Edgerton, Amanda Seyfried, Charlize Theron, Yul Vazquez, Thandie Newton, and Sharlto Copley.’

Gringo is due out in the UK on March 9th 2018. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Charlize Theron Says She ‘Just Loved’ That Her Atomic Blonde Action Hero Is Bisexual

July 11, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

There have been some wondering whether Atomic Blonde is going to be another film where Hollywood titillated straight male audiences with a bit of lesbian action. The trailers certainly seemed to be keen to show Charlize Theron kissing another woman while ensuring her fight scenes are as sexy as possible.

However, those behind the film seem keen to let people know they’re hoping it will be seen as more than that, as they’re trying to break some of the female action cliches, not least that the main character can get injured and bruised, as she doesn’t fall for the main man.

Theron herself is also keen to point out the fact her character is bisexual is more than just about titillation. She tells Variety, “I just loved it. For so many reasons: My frustration of how that community is represented in cinema, or lack thereof. And also, it made perfect sense. It just suited her. It just felt there was a way through that relationship and the fact that it was a same-sex relationship to show a woman not having to fall in love, which is one of those female tropes. ‘It’s a woman; she better fall in love – otherwise, she’s a whore!’”

She adds of writer Kurt Johnstad’s idea to include this aspect of the character, “It’s one of my most proudest parts of the development, when we came up with that. And then finding Sofia [Boutella], that was a slam dunk. There’s something about her that’s so broken and vulnerable. It works.”

Although the sex scenes are another aspect that could be accused of abjectification, Theron says on them, “James Bond doesn’t have such hot you-know-what. I loved that we didn’t hide under the sheets. Now I’m generalizing. I haven’t seen a lot of the Bond movies lately. I’m sure there’s a lot of hot sex in it.”

Atomic Blonde is out on July 28th.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War (Blu-ray Review)

August 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Jessica Chastain
Director: Cedric Nicolas-Troyan
Running Time: 120 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: August 15th 2016 (UK)

The Huntsman: Winter’s War was always going to have an uphill struggle with critics. Most of them didn’t particularly like the first film, Snow White And The Huntsman, and it was very difficult to see the point of making a follow-up. When Winter’s War arrived, it turned out not that many other people could see the point either, as it didn’t exactly set fire to the box office.

That’s almost a shame though, as the rubbish-ness of the first film is undoubtedly a drag on this movie and something it attempts to get around with only partial success. If this was standalone film without that millstone, and if a few structural issues were sorted out, it would have gotten a much reception. [Read more…]

First Look At Charlize Theron As A Fast & Furious 8 Baddie

May 21, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fast-and-furious-8-charlize-theronA few months ago it was revealed that Charlize Theron was turning villain once more, this time as the bad guy in the latest Fast & Furious movie. Now she’s on the set and the first picture of her in the movie has been released, via Twitter. It has to be said though, it sure looks like she’s been visited by the airbrush fairies.

Not a vast amount if known about her character, beyond the fact she’s called Cipher and likes ‘classic rock’ and ‘giant freaking guns’. It’s also known she’s out to destroy Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), and the rest of the Fast & Furious crew. The last couple of movies have focused on the emnity between the good guys and the Shaw brothers (Luke Evans and Jason Statham), but it’s not known if Cipher is linked to them.

Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Scott Eastwood and Kristofer Hivju star. [Read more…]
