Just a couple of months ago if you’d asked most people whether they thought the 23rd film in a 50 year old franchise wouldn’t just become the biggest James Bond movie ever, but also the highest grossing movie in UK film history, they would have given an emphatic ‘no’.
However that’s exactly what’s happened, as in just over a month Skyfall has taken £94,277,612 in the UK, overtaking Avatar’s lifetime gross £94,025,632. With the film still doing good business, it could well become the first movie to make £100 million just in Britain and Ireland.
In response to this fantastic news, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli commented, “We’re overwhelmed with gratitude to the cinema-going audiences in the UK who have made Skyfall the highest grossing film of all time. We are very proud of this film and thank everybody, especially Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes, who have contributed to its success.”
It’s an astonishing achievement, and while the film is undoubtedly good, it’s tough to pinpoint exactly why everyone’s gone so 007 crazy. They undoubtedly have though, and it’s great good to have a British born movie on top of the UK all time list.
