Kick-Ass 2 Official Synopsis Revealed

October 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Universal has releaed the official synopsis for Kick-Ass 2, the sequel to 2010’s Kick-Ass, directed by Jeff Wadlow, which is currently shooting. So what will Dave Lizewski and co. be getting up to? Take a look below to find out.

“Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)-reborn as The Mother F%&*^r – only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

‘When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire – leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

‘Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.’

Kick-Ass 2 hits cinemas June 28th, 2013.

Crush Of The Day: Aaron Johnson

September 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Albert Nobbs hitting DVD in the UK today and Anna Karenina out in cinemas on Friday, it’s the perfect time to dribble all over some pictures of the yummy Aaron Johnson.

The 22-year-old raised a few eyebrows when he started dating the 23-years older Sam Taylor Wood, his director in Nowhere Boy, when he was only 19. However the relationship is still going strong, with the pair marrying in June. They’ve already got two kids together.

Johnson got his first big break in Angus Thongs And Perfect Snogging, before raising his profile with Nowhere Boy and Kick Ass, and just this year he’s been in Albert Nobbs, Anna Karenina and Oliver Stone’s Savages. The future certainly looks bright for the handsome young actor, although I have a feeling his slightly arrogant air on-screen may need tempering if he’s really going to hit the heights.

Click on the pics below for larger version and enjoy the scrumminess (and the vision of him in his underpants). [Read more…]

Albert Nobbs (DVD)

Starring: Glenn Close, Mia Wasikowska, Janet McTeer, Pauline Collins, Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Running Time: 109 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: September 3rd 2012

Glenn Close spent 30 years trying to get Albert Nobbs to the big screen, ever since she played the title role in the stage version off-Broadway in 1982. Finally she’s gotten her wish. She doesn’t just star in the movie, she’s also produced, co-adapted the script and even wrote the lyrics for the Sinead O’Connor song that plays over the end credits.

She is excellent as Albert, a waiter/butler in a late-19th Century Irish hotel who, despite being born a woman, has spent the last 30 years living as a man – a secret he has kept from absolutely everybody. He thinks the truth may get out after he’s forced to share his bed for the night with a painter called Hubert Page. [Read more…]

Kick-Ass 2 Lands Lindy Booth As Night Bitch

August 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lindy Booth is in talks to join the burgeoning cast of Universal’s superhero sequel Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, playing Night Bitch. Up until now Booth has been best known as a bit of a scream queen, appearing in the likes of Wrong Turn, Dawn Of The Dead and Cry_Wolf, and indeed it was with the last of those that she first teamed up with Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow.

In the comic books, Night Bitch’s identity is kept a mystery. She claims that her sister’s murder drove her to become a costumed vigilante and join the superhero group Justice Forever. Her weapon of choice is a long pole that matches her costume. The actress joins a cast that includes new additions such as John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, Morris Chestnut, and Robert Emms. Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Nicolas Cage reprise their roles from the first film.

Jeff Wadlow is directing from his own screenplay, with a June 28, 2013 release date already set. Production is scheduled to begin next month in Toronto and New York. (Source: THR)

August 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Kick-Ass 2 set to go into production in Toronto next month, Universal Pictures and director Jeff Wadlow are busy putting the last pieces of the cast together, and are currently courting Jim Carrey to play Colonel Stars, according to Deadline. It isn’t known how interested the actor is.

The character helps form the superhero ensemble known as Justice Forever, which Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson) becomes a part of. Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Red Mist), Nicolas Cage (Big Daddy), and Yancy Butler (Angie D’Amico) will reprise their roles from Kick-Ass. New additions to the cast include John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, Morris Chestnut, and Robert Emms.

Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down) is directing from his own screenplay, based on the comic book series created by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. Kick-Ass 2 will be released next year.

The cast of Universal Pictures’ Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall keeps growing, with new additions such as John Leguizamo and Donald Faison recently signing on. And no, actors Morris Chestnut and Robert Emms have inked deals to join the cast, according to Deadline.

Morris Chestnut will play the guardian of Chloe Moretz’s Hit Girl. Robert Emms is playing Insect Man, a costumed hero who claims to be a police officer, although he goes far above and beyond his duty while donning the mask.

Aaron Johnson returns as the title character, with Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Chris D’Amico/Red Mist), Yancy Butler (Angie D’Amico) and Nicolas Cage (Damon Macready/Big Daddy) reprising their roles from the original. Donald Faison Wanted For Kick Ass 2 As Dr. Gravity

August 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall is finally moving forward with Jeff Wadlow in the director’s chair, and now THR reports that Donald Faison is in talks to join the growing cast of the Lionsgate sequel, playing Dr. Gravity.

In Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s comic books, Dr. Gravity claims to be a physics professor who invented the ‘Gravity Pole’, a device which can make something 20 times its actual weight. He actually is a college student majoring in English, who joins Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson) in his adventures. The ‘Gravity Pole’ is actually just a baseball bat covered in tinfoil.

Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Nicolas Cage are expected to reprise their roles from 2010’s Kick-Ass, with John Leguizamo recently signing on to play Javier, Red Mist’s new bodyguard. Production is scheduled to begin next month in Toronto and London.

Watch A Six-Minute Anna Karenina Clip

July 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina sounds quite unusual, with the director starting a new six-minute clip by saying the entire thing was shot inside a theatre, with the sets built inside, to allow actors to move from one place to another fluidly. It’s a unique way of doing things, which is probably why they’re trying to drum up interest with this clip.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keira Knightley stars as Anna Karenina in Joe Wright’s version of Tolstoy’s epic love story. Adapted by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), Jude Law plays Anna’s husband Aleksei Karenin and Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy) stars as Count Vronsky. Rounding out the cast are Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Alicia Vikander (The Seventh Son), two-time Academy Award nominee Emily Watson, Olivia Williams (Hanna), and Ruth Wilson (Luther).

‘The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.

‘Anna Karenina marks Wright’s fourth film with Working Title, following the award-winning box office successes Pride & Prejudice and Atonement and The Soloist. The film is produced by Working Title co-chairmen Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and reunites them with Paul Webster, all three of whom produced Wright’s first two films Pride & Prejudice and Atonement.’

First Trailer & Poster For Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina

June 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Joe Wright has reteamed with his Pride & Prejudice and Atonement star Keira Knightley for a new take on Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, and has brought Aaron Johnson, Jude Law and Kelly MacDonald along for the ride. Now the first trailer and poster has arrived, ahead of the film’s release on September 3rd. The poster makes everything look a bit Baz Luhrman, while the trailer focuses on the film’s rather extravagant opulence.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keira Knightley stars as Anna Karenina in Joe Wright’s version of Tolstoy’s epic love story. Adapted by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), Jude Law plays Anna’s husband Aleksei Karenin and Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy) stars as Count Vronsky. Aaron Johnson & Chloe Moretz In Talks For Kick Ass 2

June 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Universal announced a few weeks ago that it was moving forward with kick Ass, it had a small problem – none of the cast were signed for a sequel. The studio, along with director Jeff Wadlow are trying to remedy that, as Deadline reports that they’re close to finalising deals with Aaron Johnson and Chloe Moretz to return for Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse is also close to finalizing his deal, and Nicolas Cage is in negotiations to return in a cameo role. None of the Kick-Ass cast members had sequel deals in place, which fueled speculation that some of the roles may be re-cast. There are still several other new roles yet to be filled.

Jeff Wadlow is directing from his own screenplay, which is adapted from Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s comic book series. If all the deals are finalised, production will likely begin in August.
