New Iron Man 3 Image Shows Off The Mandarin & His Ten Rings Of Power

November 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A new image has shown up online via Marvel from Iron Man 3, which doesn’t just give us another look at Ben Kingsley as the villainous Mandarin, but also shows us him wearing the 10 rings of power. The Marvel website also offers plenty of info on the rings, suggesting they’ll be causing Tony Stark all manner of trouble.

Here’s the info: Discovered by the Mandarin in China’s “Valley of Spirits,” the Ten Rings of Power are actually the product of the dragon-like race Axonn-Karr (or Makluans) from the planet Maklu-IV. The Axonn-Karr utilized them mainly as the power source for their interstellar craft’s engines. The rings’ functions currently cannot be explained by modern Earth science.

‘The Mandarin learned how to utilize the rings for own personal use and make them respond to his personal commands. Over the years, the Mandarin’s mind has actually come to inhabit the rings so that now no one else can make use of them. The Mandarin can also now control the rings over large distances.

The functions of each of his original set of rings are as follows:

LEFT HAND:
Pinky: Ice Blast. Freezes the air in its path and can lower an object’s temperature to almost absolute zero.
Ring Finger: Mento-Intensifier. Magnifies the Mandarin’s psychic energy enabling him to mentally control a person. Only effective at short range.
Middle Finger: Electro-Blast. Emits quantities of electrical energy determined by the wearer (Mandarin). Upper limit of output is unknown.
Index Finger: Flame Blast. Emits infrared radiation and can cause air to incandesce by igniting its molecules. Maximum out is unknown.
Thumb: White Light. Emits many different types of energy from the electro-magnetic spectrum. Frequently used as intense visible light and laser beams.

RIGHT HAND:
Pinky: Black Light. Creates area of “absolute blackness” where all light is absorbed. It is believed that this ring accesses the “Darkforce” used by people such as Darkstar and the Shroud.
Ring Finger: Disintegration Beam: Destroys bonds between atoms and molecules causing an object’s cohesion to fall apart. Needs 20 minutes recharge time between uses.
Middle Finger: Vortex Beam. Causes air to swirl about in a vortex at high speed. Can levitate objects, propel wearer (Mandarin) in flight and be used as a weapon.
Index Finger: Impact Beam. Projects concussive force of approximately 350 lbs. of TNT. Can also cause intense sonic vibrations and create magnetic waves.
Thumb: Matter Rearranger. Can rearrange atoms and/or molecules of substances or speed up/slow down their movements to result in various effects. Cannot actually transmute elements.

Quite how Iron Man is going to compete with all that is anyone’s guess, but he should have Iron Patriot to help him. The movie hits cinemas April 25th, 2013.

Iron Man 3 Trailer Tease – Get your first look at the upcoming film

October 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It may only be 17 seconds long, but this tease gives us our first look at footage from next year’s Iron Man 3, ahead of the release of a full trailer on Tuesday. It’s all a bit blink and you’ll miss it, but it seems Pepper Potts is in a bit of bother and there’s also a brief look at Ben Kingsley as the devious Mandarin. Hopefully we’ll get to see a lot more when the full trailer arrives tomorrow.

Ben Kingsley May Play Herod In Mary Mother Of Christ

September 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke helmed a look at Jesus’ birth in The Nativity Story back in 2006, but it didn’t find too much success, and so now the film world is having another go, and they may get Ben Kingley to help them.

The movie is called Mary Mother of Christ, which Australian filmmaker Alister Grierson is being putting together. He has already cast Odeya Rush (The Odd Life of Timothy Green) as Mary, Peter O’Toole as Symeon, and Julia Ormond as Mary’s cousin, Elizabeth. If Ben Kingsley signs up, he’d play the impressively villainous King Herod, famed for trying to kill all the firstborn Israelite children in the hope of getting rid of Jesus. The producers are also interested in casting Dame Judi Dench as Anna the Prophetess and Hugh Bonneville as Satan, although it isn’t known whether those actors are interested.

It looks like it’ll be a fairly reverent take on the story as Joel Osteen, a televangelist from Texas, is serving as an executive producer on the project. It isn’t clear when it might go into production. (Source: The Wrap)

Ben Kingsley In Talks For Villainous Iron Man 3 Role

April 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Poor old Ben Kingsley. Once upon a time he was Gandhi, but in more recent years his main stock in trade has been in shady characters. It appears he’ll soon have one more bad guy to add to his CV, as Variety reports that Ben Kingsley is in final negotiations to take on a villainous roles in Iron Man 3 for director Shane Black.

It isn’t known which character Ben Kingsley will play, but sources are adamant that the Oscar-winning actor will not be playing fan favourite villain Mandarin (which had been the initial assumption). Whoever the character is, they’re somehow involved in nanobot technology and they’ll be working against Tony Stark in the new movie.

Robert Downey Jr. will once again portray Iron Man, and Scarlett Johansson is expected to return as The Black Widow. The plot is rumored to revolve around the use of nanobots to replicate the super serum used to turn Steve Rogers into Captain America, something that’s likely to interest Stark, as his father was intimately involved with that project. Shooting is expected to kick off next month.

Sacha Baron Cohen is back next summer as The Dictator, and now the first trailer is here, which is light on plot but big on star cameos and showing off the silliness. The film is ‘The heroic story of a dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed’. Bizarrely, it’s partly based on a book by Saddam Hussein! It’s due out May 18th, 2012, but watch the trailer below.

Ben Kingsley Set To Play Ender’s Game

December 9, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

The cast of Ender’s Game is coming together, with Hugo’s Asa Butterfield already onboard to play the title role, True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld in talks to star as young warrior Petra and Harrison Ford eyed as Colonel Hyrum Graff. Now THR reports that Ben Kingsley has been cast in the movie as well.

Ender’s Game is based on the award-winning sci-fi novel by Orson Scott Card, which revolves around a government program where gifted children are trained to prevent an imminent alien attack. They square off in a game described as a mix Quiddich and Star Wars’ light saber duels. Butterfield will play Ender, who emerges as a brilliant strategist and may be Earth’s best hope to defeat the alien scourge. Kingsley will play Mazer Rackham, a war hero who’s long been thought dead.

Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) is set to direct Ender’s Game from his own adapted screenplay. It isn’t known when production may begin on, although Summit Entertainment has already set a March, 2013 release date.
