David Fincher Wants Brad Pitt For 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

October 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a couple of years now David Fincher has been attached to a remake of Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, however a mixture of changes at the top of the studio, and Disney being a bit gun-shy of massive budget films after John Carter means they’ve been reluctant to give it the greenlight.

It doesn’t help either that while Fincher is renowned as one of the best filmmakers around, his box office record has been patchy, with the likes the likes of Benjamin Button and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo not living up to expectations in terms of cash.

Variety reports that the film is currently on a three-month hold while the studio waits for Steven Zaillian’s latest version of the script. Fincher is also hoping some a-list talent might help get things moving, and he’s currently

tyring to get frequent collaborator Brad Pitt to agree to play the harpoonist Ned Lands in this Jules Verne adaptation. Kirk Douglas played the role in the 1954 film. It’s not clear how interested Pitt might be.

An older A-list actor is being sought for the title role of Captain Nemo, although there’s no news on who they’re looking at.

Brad Pitt Tries To Sell Chanel No. 5 By Talking Rubbish

October 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For quite a while now, I’ve had a revolutionary idea to transform perfume advertising. The ad would go something like this – Someone picks up a bottle of perfume, sprays themselves and say something like, ‘Good, I smell a bit nicer than I did before’. The End.

After all, what else do you need?

However, whoever is in charge of perfume ads seems to live on Mars where they constantly drop acid tabs, as commercials for smelly things are almost all people talking nonsense and weird imagery. Now Chanel has recruited Brad Pitt to be the first male face of their classic No. 5. While they’ve got the virtually incomprehensible dialogue down pat, Pitt’s presumably enormous fee means their wasn’t enough cash for OTT imagery, so they just shoved him in a small room and moved the lights around a bit.

While it’s always nice to see Mr. Pitt, God knows what he was thinking with this nonsense (he can’t even be bothered to do a Matthew McConaughey or Chris Evans and get his shirt off for his perfume ad). But we’re sure he can console himself with the giant cheque we’re sure he received.

Brad Pitt Takes On IBM And The Holocaust

September 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

This probably won’t be good news over at IBM, as they don’t exactly trump their links to Nazi Germany in their press releases, but Brad Pitt’s Production Company is backing an adaptation of Edwin Black’s 2001 non-fiction tome, IBM and The Holocaust, according to Vulture.

While IBM is now known as a computer giant, back in the Nazi era it dealt in pre-computer business technology and in 1933 IBM CEO Thomas Watson formed an alliance with Nazi Germany and created a punch card system that allowed the fascists an easier way to sort through German census information and learn which of the citizens were of Jewish descent. It’s believed that the technology that Watson gave the Nazis allowed them to cross-reference data about 66 million people living in Germany, and quickly and ruthlessly identify, tax, ghettoize, deport, and ultimately exterminate six million Jews.

Of course, Watson didn’t know that would be the final outcome, but it’s certainly a terrible black mark against the company. Pitt is currently just attached to produce, but may also star. While the project was previously set up at HBO (before Pitt became involved), it’s currently looking for a new home.

Brad Pitt Says Gay Marriage Is ‘Inevitable’

September 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of months ago there was a bit of a furore over a letter Brad Pitt’s mom sent to her local newspaper, where she said Barack Obama’s support for marriage equality was one good reason not to vote for him.

However Brad’s support for both Obama and gay marriage is undimmed, telling The Telegraph at a recent screening of his forthcoming film Killing Them Softly, that ‘Gay marriage is inevitable. The next generation, they get it. It is just a matter of time before it becomes a reality.’ He adds, ‘I am an Obama supporter and I’m backing his election campaign.’

While that that means he and his mom and going to have to agree to disagree, Brad has long shown his support for equality, releasing messages in support of New York enacting equal marriage legislation, starring in a reading of Dustin Lance’s Black play 8 and vowing not to marry Angelina Jolie until everyone can wed (although he’s since said he might not be able to keep to that one).

Pitt & Washington Cirling Candy Store, With Stephen Gaghan Directing

August 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After winning an Oscar for writing Traffic, Stephen Gaghan moved into directing with Syriana. Now THR reports that he’s set to go back behind the camera with a crime thriller called Candy Store, which already has some major talent circling.

Denzel Washington and Brad Pitt are in talks to star, although things are still in the early stages at the moment, with no deals signed and both actors just expressing interest at the moment rather than saying they definitely want to do it. They’d certainly make a great pairing though.

THR says ‘Candy Store is described as a “two-hander” crime thriller with meaty roles for the two main characters. A highly trained deep-cover operative starts his life over in Brooklyn as a beat cop only to discover the global organization he was dedicated to fighting also is operating in his new backyard. Jamie Foxx was said to be interested in one of the roles as well.’ There’s no news on when it might shoot.

Is Brad Pitt Looking For A Gay Role To Spite His Mum?

August 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago, Jane Pitt, mother of Brad, was revealed to be against gay marriage in a letter she wrote to her local newspaper, saying people should vote for Mitt Romney even though he’s a Mormon, because, among other things, Barack Obama is for equal marriage.

It was reported soon afterwards that Angelina Jolie was furious, as she and Brad are well known gay rights advocates. Now the National Enquirer (so feel free to take this with a pinch of salt), says Brad is actively looking for a gay role in the hope of showing his mum she’s wrong, or indeed just distancing himself further from her opinions.

The Enquirer reports Pitt’s mother’s ‘gay-bashing fast-tracked the deal’. A source says, ‘It turns out Brad’s actually wanted to play a gay man for years, feeling it would add dimension to his work as an actor.’

After Jane’s letter was release, the magazine says Brad told producers, ‘I’ll do whatever it takes to make this film happen.’ The fact the article seems undecided if Pitt is putting together a particular project or just looking for one, does make the entire thing seem dubious, although don’t be shocked if Brad does find a gay role, as it’s difficult to believe he’d be against it. Indeed, he’s already got very homoerotic in Interview With The Vampire and, arguably, Fight Club, and he recently played the judge in a staged reading of Dustin Lance Black’s play 8, about the legal battle over Prop 8 in California, which would ban gay marriage in the state.

Angelina Jolie Reported Furious About Brad Pitt’s Mom’s Anti-Gay Letter

July 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Quite a few feathers were ruffled last week, when Brad Pitt’s mother, Jane, wrote a letter to her local newspaper, which said Obama’s support for gay rights was a good reason to vote for Mitt Romney in the Presidential election.

LGBT ally Brad hasn’t said anything publicly about this, although his brother, Doug, did address it during an interview on NBC’s The Today Show, saying, “Moms and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world, so why would our family be any different?”

Now Star Magazine (via RadarOnline) reports that Angelina Jolie is ‘mortified’ about the letter. A source reportedly told them, “Jane has never wanted to talk politics with Angelina. She knew it would cause greater issues for them and she wanted to try to have a relationship with the mother of her grandkids. She never thought her letter would be such a big deal.’

The source adds that Brad just wants to ignore the issues, but “If Brad won’t do it, Angelina will have to take matters into her own hands and talk to Jane about how, as the mother of such a prominent celebrity, she shouldn’t be writing letters that clash with her son’s personal opinions… It’ll inevitably end up in a huge blowout, with Brad stuck in the middle. Brad keeps telling her not to take this so seriously, but when Angie sets her mind on something, there’s no talking her out of it.”

Brad is a staunch supporter of LGBT rights, having donated $100,000 to the fight against Proposition 8 in California, which sought to ban equal marriage, and having written in support of New York approving same sex wedding last years.

In her letter, Jane Pitt wrote, “Any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon.”

As with all stories in gossip mags attributed to ‘sources’, there’s no guarantee this one is true, but knowing the forthright and very, very pro-LGBT Angelina, she probably wasn’t pleased about her mother-in-law’s letter.

Brad Pitt’s Brother Talks About Their Mother’s Anti-Gay Views

July 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Many were surprised last week when the mother of Brad Pitt came out as being against gay marriage in a letter to her local newspaper. The letter encouraged people to vote for Mitt Romney, which slamming Obama for coming out in support of same-sex couple being allowed to wed. It raised many eyebrows as Brad is known as one of the most staunch supporters of equal marriage in Hollywood.

Now Brad’s brother Doug has addressed his mom’s letter during an appearance on NBC’s The Today Show in the US, where he was promoting a new Virgin ad campaign that dubs him, ‘The second most famous Pitt in his family’. He stated, “Moms and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world, so why would our family be any different?”

Doug added, “There can be healthy discussion when people disagree with you, and I think there should be. The bad thing is when it turns into venom and negativity and we don’t have that in our family. It’s open discussion, we can learn from each other. If anything, it solidifies your point or maybe you learn something.”

Despite his mum’s thought, Brad has been a staunch ally in the fight for LGBT equality. He contributed $100,000 to the campaign to defeat California’s Proposition 8 in 2008 and more recently joined cast of the Los Angeles production of 8, the play by Dustin Lance Black about the trial that resulted in the overturning of Proposition 8.

Brad Pitt’s Mom Is Against Gay Marriage!

July 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Brad Pitt is well known as one of the biggest proponents of LGBT equality in Hollywood, and previously stated he wouldn’t get married to Angelina Jolie until the right was extended to all couples (although more recently they decided to get hitched anyway). However it appears his mother may not share his sentiments.

Pitt’s mum, Jane, wrote a letter to her local Springfield, Missouri newspaper, the News Leader (which confirmed it was indeed her and not someone using her name), outlining her opposition to President Obama, including his support for equal marriage.

In trying to argue that Christians should vote for Mitt Romney, even though he’s a Mormon, she writes, “Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama – a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.”

At least her son doesn’t share those sentiments.
