Thor: The Dark World Teaser Trailer – Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston return to Asgard

April 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the release of Iron Man 3 in some parts of the world this week, Marvel is introducing us the next part of their Phase 2 onslaught – Thor: The Dark World. Interestingly, while some weren’t big fans of the Asgardian parts of the first Thor film, Marvel isn’t shying away from that part of Thor-lore. It seems the sequel will only be on Earth for a bit, so that Thor can pick up Natalie Portman and take her to Asgard.

Indeed, the sequel suggests they’re beefing up to sword and sorcery side of the superhero, with the whole thing feeling rather Arthurian. Many will also be pleased to see that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is back too, and as he’s become a bit of a fan favourite, it’ll be interesting to see if they try to make him a bit more of a hero this time around.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

‘Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery “ #83 in August, 1962.’

The film will hit UK cinemas October 30th.

Viola Davis In Talks To Star Opposite Chris Hemsworth In Michael Mann Thriller

April 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Viola-DavisViola Davis scored a big hit with The Help, but we haven’t seen too much of her since then, especially as her recent movie, Beautiful Creatures, bombed at the box office. Later this year we’ll see her in The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby, Ender’s Game and Prisoners. Now she’s lined up another film, as Deadline reports that she’s set to star in Michael Mann’s currently untitled new thriller.

The film starts shooting in China next month, with Chris Hemsworth set for the lead role. Unfortunately not much is known about the story, except that it is set in the world of cyber threats and attacks, with American and Chinese forces working together to prevent hacking.

It’ll be Mann’s first movie since 2009’s Public Enemies, but sees him returning to the thriller genre he made his name with. It should hit cinemas sometime in 2014.

Chris Hemsworth Brings The Hotness In First Thor: The Dark World Poster

April 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris Hemsworth had a lot of competition in The Avengers for who was the hottest superhero, but the first poster for Thor: The Dark World shows he’s going to be looking real good when he goes it alone once more.

It’s a great first look at the movie, although it does suggest Thor’s going to be having some weather related problems.

The film arrives in cinemas this November, and sees Thor once more having to show off his power when Asgard comes under threat from the Dark Elves, with Maliketh (Christopher Eccleston) and Algrim/Kurse (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) causing the trouble. Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston also star. (Poster via ScreenCrush)

Rush Trailer – Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl & Ron Howard take on F1

April 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Ron Howard is heading back to 1970s Formula 1 racing for Rush, and now the first trailer for the high-octane biopic has arrived, giving us a look at Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt and Daniel Bruhl as Niki Lauda.

Hunt was a dashing playboy with a wild social life, whose exploits off the track filled more column inches than what he did while racing. Lauda meanwhile was a quieter figure, but still an amazing and driven racer. Their rivalry became legend both on and off the Grand Prix circuit.

We’ll have to wait a while to see the film though, which also stars Olivia Wilde, Natalie Dormer and Alexandra Maria Lara, as it’s not due for release until September 2013. [Read more…]

Chris Hemsworth

We haven’t had a film from Michael Man since 2009’s Public Enemies. While he’s been developing movies such as Big Tuna and Go Like Hell, it appears his next film will team him with Chris Hemsworth for a currently untitled thriller, according to Variety. Legendary Pictures (The Dark Knight, Godzilla) is backing the film.

Unfortunately not much is known about the story, except that it is set in the world of cyber threats and attacks. There are no details on exactly who Hemsworth might play.

Michael Mann is co-writing the script with Morgan Davis Foehl, which they have been developing for over a year. This is likely to be Mann’s next movie, although he’s still developing Big Tuna and Go Like Hell.

Ron Howard Circling Chris Hemsworth Starrer In The Heart Of The Sea

January 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ron-howardRon Howard seems keen to fill his development slate at the moment, as with his planned take of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower still looking for funding, he’s seeking other films to make. Just in the last week he’s signed up for the JJ Abrams produced All I’ve Got and a live-action version of Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book.

Now he’s got yet another one, as Vulture reports he’s circling In The Heart Of The Sea. The project has been in development for over a decade but got some fresh impetus last year when Chris Hemsworth attached himself to star. The movie is based on the true story of a sperm whale that destroyed the whaling ship The Essex in 1820.

Charles Leavitt’s script is based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s non-fiction book, with Warner Bros. backing the movie. Hemsworth is attached to play the first mate of the Nantucket based boat, who took charge as the situation got ever more dangerous.

If Howard does make the movie is will reunite him with Hemsworth after they made the upcoming F1 tale Rush together.

Steven Spielberg Puts Robopocalypse On Hold As It’s Too Expensive & Not Ready

January 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Steven-SpielbergWhen Steven Spielberg added Chris Hemsworth, Ben Whishaw and Anne Hathaway to the cast of Robopocalypse last autumn, the stated plan was to start shooting the movie this March, with a release date set of April 25th, 2014. However THR reveals that the director has now put the entire movie on indefinite hold.

Spielberg’s spokesperson, Marvin Levy, says, “(It is) too important and the script is not ready, and it’s too expensive to produce. It’s back to the drawing board to see what is possible.”

The screenplay adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s sci-fi novel was written by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods). It isn’t known if Dreamworks is seeking new writers. The film is set during the aftermath of a robotic uprising, focusing on how humanity has adapted after the machines took over.

We’ll have to wait and see if this means Spielberg will take on a different project instead of Robopocalyse while he waits for the huge sci-fi project to be ready.

Chris Hemsworth Heads For The Crime Thriller Candy Store

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris Hemsworth has fast become one of the most in demand actors in Hollywood. While he has to fit other movies in between his Marvel commitments, he’s now signed up for Candy Store, from writer/director Stephen Gaghan, according to The Wrap.

The film is about an elite, deep-cover operative (Hemsworth) whose life begins to fall to pieces and must start over from the beginning. Stuck working the beat as a cop in Brooklyn, he discovers that the organisation he was previously working hard to bring down is now operating in his new neighbourhood. He sets out to investigate them once more and may get a shot at redemption in the process.

It’s not known when it might shoot, and it may depend on when it can fit in Hemsworth’s schedule, as he’s got promotion for Rush and Thor 2 coming up and is also attached to star in The Avengers 2 and a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman.

There are also said to be many more juicy parts in Candy Store, with Brad Pitt and Christoph Waltz’s name having come up in connection with the film, although it isn’t clear if they’re still be looked at.

Anne Hathaway Confirmed For Spielberg’s Robopocalypse

November 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Lincoln now in US cinemas, Steven Spielberg can go full steam ahead with Robopocalypse. In the last few months he signed Chris Hemsworth for the lead and it was revealed Anne Hathaway was in talks to join him. Now the actress has confirmed that she’ll be part of the film.

She’s told Empire, “If Robopocalypse happens I will be in it, and I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything.”

While she makes it sound like there’s a lot of uncertainty over whether Robopocalype will happen, it’s likely that’s more due to the inherent unpredictability of the movie business rather than any knowledge that Spielberg’s film might implode at any moment.

On being cast, Hathaway says, “Whenever I’m taking time off, I always joke to my team that I’m on vacation unless Steven Spielberg calls. And I was on vacation and Spielberg called. So I was like, ‘OK, put my money where my mouth is’.”

The last we heard the plan is for the movie to begin principal photography in early 2013, with a release date already set of April 25th, 2014. Exploring the fate of the human race following a robot uprising, Robopocalypse has been adapted for the screen by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield), based on the novel of the same name by Daniel H. Wilson.
