Ahead of plans to create buzz at Cannes, a NSFW trailer for the grisly thriller remake, Maniac, has been released. The film is based on the 1980 gore-fest, with Frank Khalfoun (P2) behind the camera and Elijah Wood starring. Here’s the plot: ‘Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.
Elijah Wood Signs On For Grand Piano
Elijah Wood has had difficulty fully capitalising on the success he had with Lord Of The Rings, but he’s still around and has now signed on to star in the upcoming indie action-thriller Grand Piano for director Eugenio Mira.
The rather OTT plot centres on a concert pianist (Wood) who returns after a five-year break from performing. However, when he sits down at the piano, he sees a menacing note on his sheet music. He must give the performance of a lifetime or else a mysterious madman will kill him and his wife! The project was described as Speed at a piano.
Production will begin later this summer at Ciudad de la Luz Studios in Alicante, Spain, with another week of shooting scheduled to take place in Chicago. (Source: THR)
Happy Feet Two (Blu-ray)
Director: George Miller
Running Time: 95 mins
Certificate: U
Release Date: March 26th, 2012
In 2006 Happy Feet was a surprise hit, grossing almost $200 million in the US, but sadly this follow-up was a surprise flop, making just a third as much in North America as its predecessor. Many have suggested the problem is the amount of time between parts one and two, with six years being an age in the world of kids’ film. Whatever the reason it’s a great shame, as just like the first film, the initial sense of the whole thing being utterly ridiculous soon gives way to feeling entertained and charmed.
Mumble (Elijah Wood) is now grown up – although rather inexplicably still looks like an overgrown juvenile penguin – and has a chick of his own, Erik, a rather strong-willed youngster who unlike his father, isn’t that good at dancing, and hasn’t shown a huge amount of aptitude for anything else either, barring having a temper and getting into trouble. Anna Paquin & Tom Hiddleston Join Black Wings Has My Angel
True Blood’s Anna Paquin and Thor’s Tom Hiddleston are both pretty hot right now, and according to ScreenDaily they’ve now signed up for the noir drama Black Wings Has My Angel for producer/star Elijah Wood and director Alfonso Pineda Ulloa.
The story is based on Elliott Chaze’s 1953 pulp novel about an ex-con who stages an elaborate armored car robbery with the help of a Mississippi call girl. Elijah Wood will also star in the drama, although it isn’t known what roles any of the actors are playing.
While not as famous as the likes of James M. Cain, Ellott Chaze is very well regarded by lovers of pulp novels and this will be one of the few time one of his tales will make it to the big screen. Shooting is scheduled to begin in September.
Lord Of The Rings May be Converted To 3D
With Lion King having cleaned up at the box office and 3D version of Phantom Menace and Titanic coming early next year, there’s a lot of interest in Hollywood about whether more cash can indeed be made by taking old classics and adding an extra dimension to them. It’s not too much of a surprise then that producers are eyeing Lord Of The Rings and thinking about turning that 3D, especially with The Hobbit arriving in cinemas at the end of next year.
Now actor Elijah Wood has revealed that the producers LotRare indeed actively talking about converting the entire trilogy into 3D for new theatrical releases. He told Den Of Geek, “I think it would be cool to see. There’s talk of releasing a dimensionalised trilogy eventually. I’m okay with doing post-process 3D, as long as someone takes the time. What I’m upset about is when a movie doesn’t have the budget and the time to devote to it and they’re not fine-tuning the detail of that, because it can look really bad and cheap. But I know that they wouldn’t dimensionalise it unless it was a super meticulous process.”
The actor also made note of his frustration that Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and the prequel trilogy is being converted into 3D before the original trilogy. “I mean, Titanic’s coming out in 3D now, and Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, which means we have to wait three movies to get to the fucking good shit, it’s unbelievable, I’m like, we have to wait three years for that? You’re doing Episode I first? [frustrated squeal], what a bummer!”
Elijah Wood also talked about his cameo in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and how he got back into character as Frodo Baggins. “Before we started, I watched Fellowship again, just to remember the way that he spoke. Outside of that it was revisiting something I’d spent the better part of four years playing, and it was just a joy. It felt like a giant family reunion in a way. The weirdest thing was being on set, looking down at my feet and it just feeling oddly normal, like, ‘Here we are, doing another scene at Bag End, 10 years later.'”

Great New Happy Feet Two Trailer
I would have loved to have been at the meeting where they asked Brad Pitt and Matt Damon if they’d mind playing prawns in Happy Feet Two. However it went, they agreed, and now the movie is due in UK cinemas on December 2nd. But with the film out in the US on Friday, a great new trailer has arrived! In the film Mumble’s son, Erik, is struggling to realise his talents in the Emperor Penguin world, but is excited when he thinks he’s found a penguin that can fly. Meanwhile, Mumble and his family and friends discover a new threat their home – one that will take everyone working together to save them.
Elijah Wood Is A Maniac
If you’ve ever seen the 1980 horror movie Maniac, it’s unlikely you’d have have been praying for a remake, but apparently someone in the world of film has and they’ve got Elijah Wood to agree to start in it. Nora Arnezeder (Safe House) has also joined the cast, according to Deadline.
The original centered on a serial killer in New York City who murders young women, which he sees as revenge for being abused by his mother as a child. Elijah Wood will play the serial killer (which is kind of interesting casting), but it isn’t known who Nora Arnezeder will be, although she will likely play one of the victims.
Franck Khalfoun (P2) will direct from a screenplay by Alexandre Aja and Grégory Levasseur, who are also producing. That’s a pretty potent trio of talent, so you’ve got to hope they’re onto something with this do-over.
