Tom Felton, Elizabeth Olsen & Glenn Close Up For Therese Raquin

February 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Daniel Radcliffe isn’t the only Harry Potter actor carving out a bright post-Hogwarts career. There’s also Tom Felton (aka Draco Malfoy), who Deadline reports has signed up to star in Therese Raquin, alongside Elizabeth Olsen and Glenn Close. And this time Tom doesn’t have to play the villain, as he’s gonna be the victim!

The project is based Emile Zola’s 1867 novel, which was later turned into a famous stage play. The story centres on the title character (Elizabeth Olsen), who murders her sickly husband Camille (Tom Felton) with the help of Laurent, her new lover. Years later, she discovers Camille is haunting her new marriage with Laurent, turning each of them against each other. Glenn Close will play Therese Raquin’s mother, who arranged the marriage with Camille.

Charlie Stratton (Formosa Betrayed) is directing from his own screenplay, although it’s not certain when shooting will begin.

Anton Yelchin Joins The Very Good Girls

January 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Way back in the dim and distant past of May 2011, Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen signed on to star in the drama Very Good Girls, from first time director Naomi Foner. The indie project now continues to slowly move forward, with Deadline reporting that Anton Yelchin has signed to co-star.

The screenplay, which was also written by Foner, is an updated version of the 1980 teen cult drama Little Darlings, and follows lifelong best friends who decide to spend their first summer out of high school trying to lose their virginity. They both end up falling for the same boy, who’ll be played by Anton Yelchin, which causes unforeseen problems in their own relationship.

Foner says, “The film deals with female sexuality and friendship in a way we haven’t seen before. These girls will be stunning young women in a couple of years, but they’ve struggled through high school with only each other. Most of us have been there. This is the summer where they finally get to touch real life.”

Very Good Girls will shoot this June in and around New York City, meaning Yelchin will have plenty of time to finish his role as Chekov in Star Trek 2 before then.

Elizabeth Olsen & Jack Huston Want To Kill Your Darlings

January 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago Daniel Radcliffe signed up to play gay poet Allen Ginsberg in Kill your Darlings. Now he’s got some company as Variety reports that Elizabeth Olsen, Jack Huston and Dane DeHaan have joined the movie.

The based on a true story thriller is based around how a murder at Columbia University in 1944 brought together the young writers who would spark the Beat Revolution. Elizabeth Olsen is set to play Edie Parker, the wealthy art-student girlfriend of Jack Kerouac, who will be played by Jack Huston.

Dane DeHaan plays Lucien Carr, a classmate of Ginsberg’s for whom he develops feelings. Carr was implicated in (and served time for) the murder of David Kammerer, who was found dead in Hudson River in 1944. The events surrounding the death are said to have had a massive impact on the beat circle, and tempered the idealism they had felt beforehand.

After a tricky development period, which has seen the film lose one cast (Chris Evans, Jesse Eisenberg and Ben Whishaw were once due to star), the film is due to start shooting in March, with John Krokidas directing.

Russell Crowe May Have A Winter’s Tale

November 7, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Back in February, it was revealed that Oscar-winning writer/producer Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code) is set to make his directorial debut with Winter’s Tale for Warner Bros. Now things are moving forward, as THR reports that Russell Crowe is loosely attached to portray the villain.

The story, based on Mark Halprin’s novel, takes place at both the beginning and the end of the 20th century and centers on Peter Lake, a burglar who robs an Irish heiress and begins to fall for her as she dies in his arms. He comes to learn he has the gift of reincarnation, and is determined to save her.

Tom Hiddleston and Benjamin Walker are reading for the role of a criminal on the run. Elizabeth Olsen, Bella Heathcote, Gabriele Wilde, and Sarah Gadon are reading for the sick woman. It isn’t known when production will begin on Winter’s Tale, as everything is dependent on getting a decent enough cast together to secure final funding.
