T.R. Knight Joins Jackie Robinson Biopic 42

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although it always seemed that T.R. Knight left Grey’s Anatomy more due to behind-the-scenes personality differences than anything else, he must have hoped his career would have remained a little more high profile than it has. His only post-Grey’s on-screen credit is a single episode of Law &Order: SVU (although he has done a lot of work on stage).

Indeed, the fact he hasn’t made more of an impact has led many to question whether his decision to come out has affected his ability to get roles in TV and film, or if he’s merely following the career trajectory of many TV actors, who find it difficult to find work outside the one thing they’re best known for.

However he’s now scored a big screen role opposite Harrison Ford in 42, a biopic of Jackie Robinson, who became Baseball’s first African-American major league player when Branch Rickey (Ford) signed him for the Dodgers in 1947.

According to THR, ‘Knight will play Harold Parrott, the Dodgers traveling secretary who has to deal with the repercussions of housing once Robinson joins the team.’ And of course housing at the time was more of a problem than it should have been, due to the endemic racism in America. Relative newcomer Chadwick Boseman will play Robinson. Brian Hegeland will direct.

Lucas Till Joins Liam Hemsworth In Paranoia

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few days ago it was revealed that Liam Hemsworth, Harrison Ford, and Gary Oldman were all attached to the thriller Paranoia, and now Variety reports they’ve got some company as X-Men: First Class’ Lucas Till is in talks to join the cast.

Based on Joseph Finder’s 2004 novel, the film is about a junior manager (Hemsworth) at the fictional Wyatt Telecom, who ‘liberates’ some of the company’s money to fund a buddy’s retirement party. After getting caught, he’ll have to go to prison unless he agrees to infiltrate Wyatt’s biggest competitor, Trion Systems, to discover what he can about their top secret project. Lucas Till will play a co-worker/friend of Liam Hemsworth’s character.

Robert Luketic is directing from a screenplay by Jason Dean Hall, with the plan being to shoot it sometime this summer.

Liam Hemsworth, Harrison Ford & Gary Oldman Feel Paranoia

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Three years after it was first announced, the thriller Paranoia is finally moving forward, with Deadline reporting that Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, and The Hunger Games’ Liam Hemsworth are all in talks to star in the movie.

Based on Joseph Finder’s 2004 novel, the film is about a junior manager at the fictional Wyatt Telecom, who ‘liberate’ some of the company’s money to fund a buddy’s retirement party. After getting caught, he’ll have to go to prison unless he agrees to infiltrate Wyatt’s biggest competitor, Trion Systems, to discover what he can about their top secret project.

Hemsworth is in line for the lead role, with Oldman & Ford likely to play the heads of the two companies. Liam has apparently already signed his contract, but Oldman and Ford are still in talks. Robert Luketic, director of Legally Blonde and Killers, will helm.

Is Harrison Ford In Talks For Blade Runner Sequel?

February 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For years Ridley Scott said he wouldn’t return to the world of Alien, but then he made Prometheus. He said he’d left Blade Runner behind but then signed up to develop a movie set in that universe. However from the very beginning of Blade Runner 2, both Scott and Harrison Ford seemed keen to point out that the actor would not be returning as Deckard.

In Hollywood though money and prestige talks, and Harrison could do with a hit. Whether it’s that or another reason, it appears he’s now thinking about joining the new Blade Runner movie, with Twitchfilm reporting that he’s in “early talks” to appear in the film. At the moment it’s little more than a rumour, with Twitch hedging their bets by saying, “this is still very early stages and it is quite possible that things won’t work out.”

If it is true, you can understand why they’re trying to get Ford to commit now, as there’s little point investing in a Deckard heavy script if Harrison is just going to turn round and say no. Fans will probably grumble about the idea and feels he’s selling out if he does come back, but then, they’ll also be the first in the queue for a new Blade Runner flick.

Newcomer To Play Jackie Robinson In Biopic

December 12, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

On Friday we reported that Harrison Ford was being eyed to star as Baseball executive Branch Rickey in a biopic of the sport’s first African American Major League player, Jackie Robinson. Over the weekend it emerged who will play the main role, with Variety reporting that relative newcomer Chadwick Boseman taking the role.

Boseman will depict the iconic play, paying tribute to the legacy and impact Robinson made when he became the first African American Major League Baseball player. Ford’s role is playing the innovative Major League Baseball executive who is best known for breaking the colour barrier by signing Jackie Robinson to a minor league contract in 1945. Two years later, at the start of the 1947 major league baseball season, Jackie Robinson was signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers major league baseball team with the help of Branch Rickey.

Chadwick Boseman is best known for his performance in Universal Pictures’ The Express and has just completed a lead in the independent feature, The Kill Hole. On television he was a regular on the NBC series Persons Unknown.

Harrison Ford Sought For Baseball Flick

December 9, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It seems that at the moment lots of people want Harrison Ford, but it’s not certain if he wants them. A couple of weeks ago it was revealed he’s being eyed for Ender’s Game and now Deadline reports that Legendary Pictures is courting him to star as Branch Rickey in their Jackie Robinson movie, 42.

The role already has quite a history, as originally writer/director Brian Hegeland developed the movie alongside Robert Redford, who was attached to play Rickey. Then Redford left and the part was offered to Jack Nicholson, but he’s apparently passed to. So now it’s on to Harrison Ford. There’s no news on how interested the actor is though.

Rickey is the Los Angeles Dodgers executive credited with signing Jackie Robinson and breaking baseball’s colour barrier in 1947. The movie was originally going to focus on Rickey, but it now appears Robinson will be the main character, although they seemingly still want a big name for the former role.

Don’t be surprised if Harrison passes, as he’s being very selective about his roles nowadays.

Ben Kingsley Set To Play Ender’s Game

December 9, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

The cast of Ender’s Game is coming together, with Hugo’s Asa Butterfield already onboard to play the title role, True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld in talks to star as young warrior Petra and Harrison Ford eyed as Colonel Hyrum Graff. Now THR reports that Ben Kingsley has been cast in the movie as well.

Ender’s Game is based on the award-winning sci-fi novel by Orson Scott Card, which revolves around a government program where gifted children are trained to prevent an imminent alien attack. They square off in a game described as a mix Quiddich and Star Wars’ light saber duels. Butterfield will play Ender, who emerges as a brilliant strategist and may be Earth’s best hope to defeat the alien scourge. Kingsley will play Mazer Rackham, a war hero who’s long been thought dead.

Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) is set to direct Ender’s Game from his own adapted screenplay. It isn’t known when production may begin on, although Summit Entertainment has already set a March, 2013 release date.

One that does look like it’s going ahead is Ender’s Game, which already has Asa Butterfield signed for the lead role, is looking at the likes of Harrison Ford and now Variety reports that True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld is in talks to join the movie.

The film opens 70 years after a horrific alien war. Butterfield will play the title character, a gifted young gamer skilled in strategy and logistics who’s recruited by the government to help battle an insect-like alien race. Steinfeld would play Petra Arkanian, the only girl in Salamander Army, who quickly becomes Ender’s ally and trusted right hand.

Gavin Hood will be directing the film from a script he wrote, which is adapted from Orson Scott Card’s award-winning novel.
