New Christopher Robin Trailer – Disney brings Winnie The Pooh to live-action life

July 10, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The recent Goodbye Christopher Robin took a traditional biopic look at Winnie The Pooh creator AA Milne. Well, Disney has a slightly different take on the life of Milne’s son, Christopher Robin, by completely fictionalising it and turning Winnie into a CG character in a live-action world.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the heartwarming live action adventure, the young boy who embarked on countless adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood with his band of spirited and lovable stuffed animals, has grown up and lost his way. Now it is up to his childhood friends to venture into our world and help Christopher Robin remember the loving and playful boy who is still inside.

‘Disney’s “Christopher Robin” is directed by Marc Forster from a screenplay by Alex Ross Perry and Allison Schroeder and a story by Perry based on characters created by A.A. Milne. The producers are Brigham Taylor and Kristin Burr with Renée Wolfe and Jeremy Johns serving as executive producers. The film stars Ewan McGregor as Christopher Robin; Hayley Atwell as his wife Evelyn; Bronte Carmichael as his daughter Madeline; and Mark Gatiss as Keith Winslow, Robin’s boss. The film also features the voices of: Jim Cummings as Winnie the Pooh; Chris O’Dowd as Tigger; Brad Garrett as Eeyore; Toby Jones as Owl; Nick Mohammed as Piglet; Peter Capaldi as Rabbit; and Sophie Okonedo as Kanga.’

The film is due in cinemas in August. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Well, Disney has a slightly different take on the life of Milne’s son, Christopher Robin, by completely fictionalising it and turning Winnie into a CG character in a live-action world. Even after watching the first teaser trailer it seems like a bizarre idea, but it might just work.

‘Vera Brittain, irrepressible, intelligent and free-minded, overcomes the prejudices of her family and hometown to win a scholarship to Oxford. With everything to live for, she falls in love with her brother’s close friend Roland Leighton as they go to University to pursue their literary dreams. Tom Hiddleston & Hayley Atwell Up For Robert Capa Biopic

April 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom Hiddleston at The Avengers LA PremiereThe last we heard about a planned biopic of war photographer Robert Capa, Michael Mann was planning to direct, with Andrew Garfield and Gemma Arterton were set to star. However that plan was dropped and since then Song For Marion director Paul Andrew Williams has picked up the idea of making a Capa film, and now he’s hired Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell to star, according to Screen Daily.

The film, Close Enough, focuses on Capa’s early years, starting in Paris in 1935 where he is living as a refugee from fascist Hungary. There he meets German Jewish refugee Gerda Taro, with whom he starts a torrid two-year romance. In 1936 the Spanish Civil War breaks out, with Capa and Taro heading off to the frontline to make their names as a war photographers, with tragic consequences.

“The idea of bringing these two iconic, extraordinary characters to the big screen is one I relish,” Williams says. “Not only is it a beautiful love story, but Capa and Gerda influenced each other in such a dramatic way that it changed the idea of photo journalism for ever.

“I am more than delighted to be working with Tom and Hayley. After I met with Tom his passion for this project and his commitment to the script and character was so exciting.

“Hayley is someone I have wanted to work with for a long time and after a few near misses we have finally found, what I believe to be, the best project to collaborate on. The chemistry between Capa and Gerda was electric and I have confidence that Tom and Hayley will repeat that chemistry on film.”

A June shoot is planned.

The Sweeney (DVD)

January 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ray Winstone, Ben Drew, Hayley Atwell, Damian Lewis, Steven Mackintosh
Director: Nick Love
Running Time: 112 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: January 21st 2013

If the Metropolitan Police are hoping to get away from their image in some sectors as oppressive cowboys with a penchant for shooting people they don’t need to, The Sweeney isn’t going to help the cause. The film takes the stereotype of the old school, rulebook ignoring cop and ramps it up the nth degree. Indeed it’s more the cliché of the original 1970s TV series it’s based on than anything close to the series itself. [Read more…]

There’s 10 Things I Hate About Life For Hayley Atwell

May 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s 13 years since 10 Things I Hate About You was released in cinemas, so it would seem a bit late for a sequel, but nevertheless we’re getting one, as Variety reports that Captain America’s Hayley Atwell is set to star in a follow-up, 10 Thing I Hate About Life.

There’s not a huge amount of detail about the movie, other than that it will advance the situations from the original film and will be a rom-com about two people who meet when they’re trying to kill themselves. What that means is anyone’s guess, but director Gil Junger, who made the first film, will write and direct the sequel.

There’s no news on whether Atwell is taking over one of the roles from the first film, or if they’re trying to secure the likes of Julia Stiles, Larisa Oleynik and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to return. The project has a rather odd genesis though, as Junger was inspired to write 10 Things I Hate About Life after discovering the body of a man who has killed himself at a scenic overlook. So it’s an unconventional impetus for a romantic comedy to say the least.

Hayley Atwell Returning With Captain Nemo

November 9, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

After Captain America, Hayley Atwell is much in demand, and it seems she wants to keep with the historical sci-fi flavour as she’s signed up to start in The Return Of Captain Nemo, according to Deadline, which is, unsurprisingly, a sequel to Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

David Morrisey has also recently joined the movie, while Hugh Bonneville has been onboard for a while as the titular captain. The premise of the $10 million 3D film is that Captain Nemo is languishing in prison, but he may be the only hope when sea monsters start sinking ships up and down the US east coast. Morrissey will be the the chief adviser to President Ulysses S Grant, who gets Nemo out of jail to help, while Atwell will be Morrisey’s niece, Sara, who becomes the heroine of the piece.

The movie will be a CG heavy production, which like 300 will largely shoot on green-screens. This should allow them to infuse the movie with steampunk elements, without costing the earth. It should be noted that this is entirely separate to Disney’s planned big-budget take on 20,000 Leagues, which David Fincher is supposed to be directing. That movie is currently in dry dock while Fincher completes Dragon Tattoo and Disney ponders how much money it’s willing to risk on it, considering the huge budgets it’s already extended to the likes of John Carter and Lone Ranger.
