The Boys On Film collection of gay-themed short films has proved far more successful than you would expect – after all, shorts on DVD have rarely found an audience. However, thanks to the quality of the films it’s now on its 13th instalment, but that doesn’t mean this one is unlucky. So what does it have in store amongst its 10 shorts? Take a look below to find out more.

And you can see what we think of other Boys On Film releases here.

Surprise – dir. Leslie Bumgarner (Canada) 9 mins 2015
Teenager Jack’s mother wants to talk to him about something. It soon becomes clear there’s something pressing she wants to get off her chest, but she isn’t sure whether Jack will understand the evolution she’s going through – especially as he’s got something rather different he needs to reveal. Surprise is a sweet and simple film that captures the dynamic between a mother and teenage child who love each other but exist on slightly different wavelengths. It also has a great ending which is likely to leave a smile on your face (as long as you’re not too shocked by naughty words). [Read more…]

Three In A Bed (DVD Review)

March 22, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Brennan Reece, Darren Bransford, Jody Latham
Director: Lloyd Eyre-Morgan
Running Time: 81 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 23rd 2015 (UK)

Nate is a young man whose life has slightly stalled. On her deathbed his mother made him promise to look after his two sisters, something he took to heart so much that he doesn’t have much going on of his own. It doesn’t help that his sisters are loud, gobby and good at getting into trouble.

But then he meets Jonny, who lives downstairs and seems keen to make friends. They certainly share an attraction, but Nate isn’t sure what his sexuality is, and his life suddenly becomes more complicated when his sisters – who are certain he’s straight – announce that because of the various issues in their lives, they’re coming to stay with him. Nate flirts around the idea of starting something up with Jonny, although Jonny isn’t keen on the idea of having to keep the whole thing in the closet. [Read more…]

Three In A Bed Trailer – A gay man’s life gets complicated when his sisters come to stay

February 26, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

three-in-a-bed-slideDream On and Celluloid director Lloyd Eyre-Morgan teams up with Neil Ely for this latest slice of gay-themed Brit flick fun. And just to add a bit more UK LGBT-movie pedigree, it star Darren Bransford who was also in last year’s The Secret Path.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Three In A Bed is a truly fresh, very romantic, British coming of age comedy following the travails of Nate, a struggling musician, as he navigates a complicated new relationship with a sexy new boy, as well as his VERY demanding sisters.

‘Nate desperately seeks independence, but when his two sisters come crashing into his life things will never be the same again, especially with the arrival of hot new neighbour Jonny.  Almost instantly the sparks fly- but will Jonny and Nate find true love? Or will the pressures of  living with his two crazy sisters pull them apart. An emotional comedy brought to you by the makers of Dream On and Celluloid, and featuring Jody Latham (Shameless, Eastenders).’

The film arrives on DVD and VoD in the UK on March 23rd. [Read more…]

Celluloid (DVD)

January 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Daniel Booth, Jody Latham, Olivia Sweeney, Janet Bamford
Director: Lloyd Eyre-Morgan
Running Time: 106 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: January 27th 2014

Lloyd Eyre-Morgan’s directorial debut, Dream On, hit DVD last summer, and now he’s back with Celluloid, a movie that’s part kitchen sink drama, part thriller, with a little bit of horror movie thrown in as well. It sounds like an odd mix, but it works surprisingly well, thanks to interesting characters and a well-observed look at life.

Our protagonist is Josh (Daniel Booth), a 15-year-old boy who’s coming to terms with his sexuality. He has a major crush on his straight best friend – who shares his love of making films – but has yet to tell anyone he’s gay. However coming out isn’t his first priority as his homelife is tough. His mother, Dawn (Janet Bamford), has mental health issues and seems poised for another breakdown. [Read more…]
