Johnathon Schaech Talks About His Time As Ellen Degeneres’ Beard

April 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

johnathon-schaechNowadays Ellen DeGeneres is a much loved comedian, talk show host and actress, and may well be the most famous lesbian in the world. But when she was first finding fame she hadn’t come out, and now actor Johnathon Schaech has confirmed that for a time he acted as her beard – however, it has to be said the way he talks about it is surprisingly gallant.

When asked on Reddit about being seen with Ellen in the 90s, he said “My manager asked me to accompany her to events. She was scared people would not watch the show, her sitcom Ellen, because she was gay. It was an honor … She’s a great example for the human race.”

He also spoke about his thoughts about LGBT people, “I grew up with two gay aunts and a gay uncle. My aunt died of cancer. She was a proud woman and she didn’t get proper care because she didn’t want to be away from her partner. Hospitals didn’t allow partners the same rights as a spouse. When you have someone you love in your life that is gay or a lesbian it’s very clear that they deserve the same rights as anyone else. It’s not about religion. If you don’t love ELLEN now – you don’t watch her show. She’s a great example for the human race.”

When asked to confirm whether he was essentially her beard, Schaech says, “She wasn’t out…I was supposed to perform in her coming out episode but I ran the marathon and couldn’t walk the next day, the network fired me cause they thought I was lame. I was lame, DONT RUN A MARATHON when you’re given a great gift.”

Schaech is best known for the likes of That Thing Yo Do, Quarantine, and How to Make An American Quilt, and is about to make some new fans when he pops up as Jonah Hex in DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

John Cusack, Jason Patric & Johnathon Schaech Join Bruce Willis in The Prince

November 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

john-cusackBruce Willis has been attached to The Prince for a while, and now Deadline reports he’s got plenty of company as John Cusack, Jason Patric, 50 Cent, Johnathon Schaech, Gia Mantegna and Korean pop star Rain have signed up to co-star.

The story follows a former mobster (Patric) who is forced to return to Las Vegas to face his old enemies after his daughter goes missing. Bruce Willis plays Omar, a man who has been waiting for the mobster to come back to town so that he can settle an old score. It isn’t clear who the other actors will play.

Brian A. Miller is directing from a script by Jeremy Passmore and Andre Fabrizio. Filming begins next week in Mobile, Alabama.

Phantom (Blu-ray)

August 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ed Harris, David Duchovny, William Fichtner, Johnathon Schaech, Sean Patrick Flanery
Director: Todd Robinson
Running Time: 98 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: August 19th 2013

The words ‘inspired by a true story’ are worth less and less in the world of film as movies drift further and further from the true story and more towards the inspired by. With Phantom we’ve got to the point where they tell you more about the true story in the special features, and it’s actually massively more interesting than the actual movie.

In Phantom, Ed Harris plays a Russian nuclear submarine in the 1960s, who’s about to retire – not least because he’s been having seizures and hallucinations – but is forced to go on one more sub mission. However once out to sea, things go horribly wrong when a radical faction emerges and tries to take control of the vessel. They have a horrifying plan that could alter the course of the Cold War and change the world forever. Only the Captain and the remaining loyal members of the crew can stop them. [Read more…]
