The Homesman Trailer – First look at Hilary Swank & Meryl Streep in Tommy Lee Jones’ film

April 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tommy Lee Jones’ has shown himself to be a decent director with the TV movies The Good Old Boys and The Sunset Limited, as well as the movie The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

He’s stepping things up a gear with The Homesman by gathering an incredibly distinguished cast, including Hilary Swank, Hailee Steinfeld, Meryl Streep, Tim Blake Nelson, James Spader, William Fichtner, and Jesse Plemons.

The period drama is about on a claim-jumper (Tommy Lee Jones) and a pioneer woman (Swank) in the 19th Century, who both escort three insane women on a bizarre journey from Nebraska to Iowa, where they must brave the harsh elements and lawless wastes along the way.

Now a trailer has arrived, although it’s not clear when it will be released. [Read more…]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teaser – Leonardo and the gang team up with Megan Fox

March 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gone are the days when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were either cartoons in guys in Jim Henson Creature Show costumes. They’re getting a major effects upgrade for this new movie, which has just released its first trailer.

It’s looking pretty huge, although it hopefully hasn’t lost the humour.

Along with the first trailer comes the first official image, showing Megan Fox as April O’Neil (or at least April O’Neil after a visit to the Photoshop fairy). She’s certainly a bit different to Judith Hoag.

We’ve still got a while to ait for this one though, as the Jonathan Liebesman directed movie doesn’t hit US cinemas until August, while the UK currently has to wait until October (although if the buzz for this one grows, don’t be surprised if it moves up). [Read more…]

The Lone Ranger (DVD)

December 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Helena Bonham Carter
Director: Gore Verbinski
Running Time: 149 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: December 2nd 2013

Shortly after the release of The Lone Ranger, there was much talk about what a gargantuan flop it was, with the potential of losing $200 million for Disney. However while its $89 million US gross was rubbish compared to the $215 million it cost to make, it actually grossed $260 million worldwide, which isn’t as bad, but once all costs are taken into account, it’s still in the red. Phantom (Blu-ray)

August 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ed Harris, David Duchovny, William Fichtner, Johnathon Schaech, Sean Patrick Flanery
Director: Todd Robinson
Running Time: 98 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: August 19th 2013

The words ‘inspired by a true story’ are worth less and less in the world of film as movies drift further and further from the true story and more towards the inspired by. With Phantom we’ve got to the point where they tell you more about the true story in the special features, and it’s actually massively more interesting than the actual movie.

In Phantom, Ed Harris plays a Russian nuclear submarine in the 1960s, who’s about to retire – not least because he’s been having seizures and hallucinations – but is forced to go on one more sub mission. However once out to sea, things go horribly wrong when a radical faction emerges and tries to take control of the vessel. They have a horrifying plan that could alter the course of the Cold War and change the world forever. Only the Captain and the remaining loyal members of the crew can stop them. [Read more…]

William Fichtner Takes An ‘Iconic’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Role

May 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

William-FichtnerTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has started shooting, but it’s only now that it’s cast one of its lead actors, with the news, via Deadline, that William Fichtner has taken “a lead [role] with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology.”

There’s no news on exactly what role that is, but with Alan Ritchson playing Raphael, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, and Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, along with Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter, that leaves Casey Jones and Shredder as iconic Turtles characters. Fichtner’s a bit old for Jones, so it seems likely he’s playing the evil Shredder. It could turn out he’s playing some else, but that’s who we’d bet on at the moment.

Jonathan Liebesman is directing, with a June 6th, 2014 release date already set.

New Lone Ranger Photo Gets Fiery

April 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lone-ranger-preview-pic8
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has released a new photo from The Lone ranger on his Twitter page, showing Armie Hammer and William Fichtner walking away from two massive fires. It’s a classic shot as the heroes walk away as everything burns behind them, but unfortunately there’s no info on exactly how this fits into the film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero  is brought to life through new eyes.  Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.’

The movie hits cinemas in July.

William Fichtner Takes Over Lone Ranger Villain Role

February 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The delay to the shooting schedule of Lone Ranger caused by Disney putting on the brakes while they sorted out the ever-ballooning budget was inevitably going to cause some casting issues. Most of the actors have stayed onboard, but one who was forced to drop out is Dwight Yoakam.

Now Deadline reports William Fichtner has been brought in to replace him, which is good news as the Drive Angry actor is always good value for money. Fichtner will play Butch Cavendish, leader of the Cavendish gang and the pic’s primary villain. Christopher Lloyd played this same character in 1981’s The Legend of the Lone Ranger.

Shooting on The Lone Ranger is due to start soon for release on May 31, 2013, with Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Ruth Wilson, Helena Bonham Carter, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Tom Wilkinson and James Frain all onboard

Wrong Teaser Trailer – The director of Rubber returns

December 1, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of the unexpected treats of last year’s Sundance, which went on to become a bit of a cult sensation, was Rubber, a movie about a killer car tyre! Now Rubber’s director, Quentin Dupieux, is returning to Sundance with his follow-up, Wrong, and an odd little teaser for the film has just hit. It’s a bit difficult to tell exactly what the movie is about, but apparently it involves is a man searching for his lost dog, who encounters a pneumatic pizza-delivery girl, a jogging neighbour and a “mysterious righter of wrongs”. It’s weird but like Rubber, could be fun. No release date is currently set.
