Five Gangster Squad Character Posters Emerge

October 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With a new poster and trailer out this week, the hype campaign for Gangster Squad has continued with the release of five characters posters for the movie, which you can see above and below. We have a suspicion they may have been hanging around for a while, as they still have the old September release date on them, before it was shifted back to January, so they could film a new ending that wouldn’t remind people of the Dark Knight Rises shootings in Colorado. They’re new to use though, and pretty cool, so enjoy!

And if you want to know more about the film, check out the latest trailer here.

New Gangster Squad Trailer – Ryan Gosling and co. take on the mobsters

October 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The release of Gangster Squad was thrown into disarray after the Aurora Dark Knight Rises shootings, as one of the main scenes towards the end saw gangsters opening fire in a cinema. The result was the release got pushed back to January and major reshoots were needed to add a new ending. Now the promotion of the movie is gearing up again, with a new poster and a great new trailer. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and – if he has his way – every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. Gangster Squad is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.’ The movie hits cinemas January 11th.

Josh Brolin Going Crazy For The Storm

August 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago it was revealed that Sean Penn was planning to go back behind the camera to direct a movie called Crazy For The Storm and now Variety reports that Penn has found the man he wants to star, trying to recruit his old friend Josh Brolin for the main role.

The movie will be based on Norman Ollestad’s memoir, which centres on the writer’s relationship with his father, who taught him several different skills from a very young age. The plot also focuses on how those traits saved his life, when he was stranded on a mountaintop after surviving a plane crash, so there’s a bit of a thematic link to Penn’s previous directorial effort, Into the Wild, with this one.

Will Fetters is adapting the screenplay, with the plan to shoot early next year once Brolin has completed work on Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake.

Samuel L Jackson Joins Spike Lee’s Oldboy Remake

August 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although there are still many who wish the idea of remaking Oldboy would just die a quiet death, Spike Lee’s do-over continues to move forward with the news, via The Playlist, that Samuel L. Jackson is set to appear in the film.

It appears Jackson will play a villain who is brutally tortured by Josh Brolin’s character – a man who has been detained by mysterious adversaries for years with no explanation, who after his release seeks revenge and tries to find out the reason why he was locked up. In Park Chan-Wook’s original movie, Jackson’s character was memorably tortured by having his teeth removed. Spike’s movie won’t use the teeth, but there’s something just as wicked promised.

It’s also been revealed that Bruce Hornsby will write the score. The piano virtuoso has a long-standing relationship with Spike, having composed the scores for the directors’ documentary, Kobe Doin’ Work, and his new film, Red Hook Summer.

Gorgeous New Gangster Squad Banner Debuts

July 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are high hopes for Gangster Squad, the upcoming Ruben Fleischer movie which takes on the real-life story of LAPD’s fight to keep East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s. The film has an amazing cast, including Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Nick Nolte and Anthony Mackie. The new banner above is gorgeous, recalling the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Gangster Squad is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.’

The film hits UK cinemas on November 9th.

Men In Black III (Cinema)

May 22, 2012 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Jermaine Clement, Emma Thompson
Director: Barry Sonnenfeld
Running Time: 105 mins
Certificate: PG
Release Date: May 25th, 2012

It has been 10 years since we last heard from the Men In Black. The successful film series has grossed over $1 billion worldwide at the box office, not to mention having vast DVD sales. Has the world forgotten MIB? Is it still relevant today when action/alien films are ten-a-penny? Well, this is a welcome return to the franchise – it delivers nothing new but fits like a comfortable pair of slippers and entertains nonetheless.

The film, like the previous two, is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and there is no need to introduce the familiar characters, although there are a few new ones to add into the mix. The plot starts off with Nicole Scherzinger helping free Boris the Animal (Jermaine Clement) from prison – this really is a rather pointless cameo in her movie debut, where she does nothing more than walk around in a rubber outfit holding a cake. First Men In Black III Clips Arrive

May 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Can Men In Black III recapture the magic of the first two movies? Sony is definitely hoping so, with a time-travelling tale that see Will Smith’s Agent K heading back to the late 60s to save the life of Agent J (Tommy Lee Jones, but played by Josh Brolin as a young man), after the timeline is altered and J has been killed in the past. It’s out May 25th, but now the first clips from the movie have arrived, so take a look at the below.
