Fantastic Four Trailer – First look Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell in the superhero reboot

January 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fantastic-four-teaser-posterThe lack of a trailer or other marketing for Fox’s reboot of Fantastic Four has resulted in a lot of rumours, from reports that the movie is a disaster that needs massive reshoots to issues with the special effects meaning there was no footage to show.

However now the first trailer is here, and it seems very keen to show that this film will have a very different feel to the ones starring Jessica Alba and Chris Evans. It’s certainly darker and bigger in scale, even if the promo is still keen to keep a bit of mystery around exactly what the characters will look like in their hero guise.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.’

The film is due out in August. [Read more…]

Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman & Kate Mara To Star In Man Down

September 5, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

shia-lebeoufShia LaBeouf might have gone a bit, err, peculiar, earlier this year, but it now seems he’s getting back on track as it’s been announced that he will star alongside Kate Mara and Gary Oldman in the psychological thriller, Man Down.

Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Fighting) will direct from a screenplay by Adam Simon (Synapse), which is about a haunted Afghanistan war veteran who attempts to come to terms with his past while searching for his family in a post-apocalyptic America.

Shooting is due to start on October 30th in Louisiana.

Producer Dawn Krantz commented, “When I read this script for the first time I knew it was something very special. We are so thrilled to be able to have put together such an exemplary cast with an outstanding director to tell the story.”

Fantastic Four Cast Finally Revealed Including Miles Teller & Jamie Bell

The casting rumours for the reboot of Fantastic Four have been going on for months, but now it seems things are coming to an end, as Variety reports that Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell are closing deals to star.

Assuming they all sign on the dotted line, Miles Teller will be Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara is Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman), Michael B. Jordan is taking on Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) and Jamie Bell will tackle the role of Ben Grimm (The Thing).

There may be some issues sorting deals out though. For example Miles Teller is also signed up for the sci-fi sequel Insurgent, which is currently set to shoot at the same time as the superhero reboot. They may be able to sort out the scheduling, but if not Teller may have to be recast.

Josh Trank’s is directing with plans to start filming in Baton Rouge, Louisiana next month.

Official Synopsis For Johnny Depp Starrer Transcendence Revealed

December 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transcendence-preview-pic1There’s been a lot of interest in Transcendence, the directorial debut of Christopher Nolan’s cinematographer Wally Pfister. However Pfister has learned a few things about secrecy from Nolan, so while there have been bits and pieces about what the movie is about, there’s not been much official.

However now an official synopsis has been released, giving us some more info on the movie, which stars Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy, Kate Mara and Paul Bettany.

Here is is: ‘Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.’

The film is due out next April.

David Oyelowo & Kate Mara Up For Captive

October 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David-OyelowoIt’s been revealed that David Oyelowo and Kate Mara have signed up for the thriller Captive. Leonor Varela and Mimi Rogers will be rounding out this ensemble. The film is set to begin principal photography later this month with Jerry Jameson (Safe Harbor, Raise the Titanic) directing.

Captive is a thriller based on true events that occurred in Atlanta, Ga., on March 11, 2005. Brian Nichols (Oyelowo) breaks out of the courthouse jail and shoots dead the judge assigned to his case as well as a court reporter, sheriff’s deputy, and FBI officer. While eluding a statewide manhunt, Nichols takes Ashley Smith (Mara), a single mother struggling with meth addiction, hostage in her own apartment.

Over the course of her harrowing ordeal, Smith desperately uses a book she has been given, Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life, to reason with her captor — with surprising and unforeseen results.

The film should be in cinemas later this year.

Kit Harington, Jack O’Connell & Miles Teller Test For Fantastic Four

October 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s believed that Fox’s reboot of Fantastic Four is nearly at the point where it ready to shoot. While there have been casting rumours for months, it’s only now they’re properly started testing actors, starting with Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) and Sue Storm (The Invisible Girl).

Insiders told Variety that Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now) and Jack O’Connell (300: Rise of an Empire) are in line to get test for the Reed Richards role, while Saoirse Ronan (The Host), Kate Mara (Transcendence) and Margot Robbie (About Time) will try out for Sue Storm.

The studio is looking to go much younger with this rebooted version, in hopes of drawing in a new audience to reinvigorate the franchise (although it should be noted Reed Richards was in his 20s in the original comic, so despite the image of his as slightly older, they haven’t completely ditched the character’s origins).

For several months Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle, Fruitvale Station) has been the favourite to play Johnny Storm (The Human Torch), although that may change. No actors have been mentioned in connection with either Ben Grimm (The Thing) or the villain yet.

Simon Kinberg was recently brought on to work on the script, providing a polish. Jeremy Slater, Michael Green, Seth Grahame-Smith and T.S. Nowlin have previously worked on the script. Josh Trank is directing the reboot, with shooting expected to begin in the next few months.

House Of Cards – Season 1 (Blu-ray)

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright, Corey Stoll, Kate Mara
Director: Various
Running Time: 674 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: June 10th 2013

Most businesses try out new things by dipping their toe in and limiting their financial exposure, testing the waters before going full hog. However Netflix isn’t that kind of company. For their second original series (after Lilyhammer), some sources suggest they spent $100 million on House Of Cards.

They also managed to draw in such big names as David Fincher to produce on the promise that unlike with normal TV, they’d be relatively hands off and just let the show’s team create. They didn’t stint on the cast either, luring in the likes of Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. [Read more…]

Jamie Bell Joins Quirky Rom Com Fighting Jacob

April 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jamie Bell has spent a long time just on the edge of breaking big, with everyone agreeing he’s a good actor, but he never gets the part that tips him into full-on movie stardom. His best chance was the title role in Tintin, but of course he wasn’t recognisable in that.

Now he’s taking the lead opposite Kate Mara (Brokeback Mountain) in a new ‘quirky’ rom com called Fighting Jacob, which Variety reports will be the feature directorial debut of Charlie McDowell. Bell will play the title character, Jacob ‘The Manic Maniac’ Rosenthal, an up and coming boxer who has extreme OCD, which is oddly enough the key to his success in the ring. Then he has a devastating break-up with Mara’s character, which forces him to re-evaluate his life and decide whether he can be truly happy being neurotic and a top fighter, but having his OCD affect his private life massively.

The movie is due to shoot this summer in LA.
