Cee Lo Green On For Can A Song Save Your Life?

June 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cee Lo Green is going to the movies, as it’s been announced that he’s joined the cast of Can A Song Save Your Life?, from Once director John Carney. He joins a cast that also includes Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfeld, Adam Levine and Catherine Keener.

In the film, seduced by dreams of making it in the big city, Gretta (Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend (Levine) move to New York to pursue their passion for music. She’s heartbroken when he dumps her for the fame and fortune of a big solo contract, leaving her all on her own. Left to sleep on the couch of an old friend, Gretta reluctantly agrees to play an open mic night before departing the city for home. Her world takes a turn for the better when a down-on-his-luck record producer (Ruffalo) stumbles upon her singing and is immediately captivated by her raw talent and inspiring authenticity – they may be each other’s last chance to turn their lives around.

Recruiting street musicians, amateurs, and professionals borrowed from the posse of Troublegum (Green), a hip-hop artist he discovered years ago, Dan throws himself into producing for Gretta. Fueled by his enthusiasm, Gretta begins to develop confidence as a performer and songwriter. Dan hopes that his new direction will repair his marriage with his estranged wife Miriam (Keener) and reclaim the respect of his daughter Violet (Steinfeld). Somewhere between friendship and their love of music, the two strangers strike a chord that captures the hearts of everyone around them, proving that every great story has its own soundtrack.

Production starts on July 2nd in New York City

First Trailer & Poster For Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina

June 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Joe Wright has reteamed with his Pride & Prejudice and Atonement star Keira Knightley for a new take on Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, and has brought Aaron Johnson, Jude Law and Kelly MacDonald along for the ride. Now the first trailer and poster has arrived, ahead of the film’s release on September 3rd. The poster makes everything look a bit Baz Luhrman, while the trailer focuses on the film’s rather extravagant opulence.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keira Knightley stars as Anna Karenina in Joe Wright’s version of Tolstoy’s epic love story. Adapted by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), Jude Law plays Anna’s husband Aleksei Karenin and Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy) stars as Count Vronsky. Rounding out the cast are Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Alicia Vikander (The Seventh Son), two-time Academy Award nominee Emily Watson, Olivia Williams (Hanna), and Ruth Wilson (Luther).

‘The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.

‘Anna Karenina marks Wright’s fourth film with Working Title, following the award-winning box office successes Pride & Prejudice and Atonement and The Soloist. The film is produced by Working Title co-chairmen Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and reunites them with Paul Webster, all three of whom produced Wright’s first two films Pride & Prejudice and Atonement.’

Seeking A Friend At The End Of The World Trailer

February 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Oh no, it’s the end of the world, but it seems that Seeking a Friend for the End of the World will be a more humorous take of facing oblivion than you might expect. Steve Carell and Keira Knightley star in the comedy, which marks the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Lorene Scafaria. Set in a too-near future, the movie explores what people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. As the respective journeys of Dodge (Carell) and Penny (Knightley) converge (continuing Hollywood’s love of older men with younger women), the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten. Take a look at the trailer and brand new poster!

Keira Knightley Set For Effie Gray Biopic

November 8, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

The film world seems to love having rival films about a subject at the moment, whether it’s porn star Linda Lovelace or fairy tale princess Snow White. Now it seems there’s another to add to the list – Effie Gray. Last month a movie about the 19th Century artist’s muse, with Dakota Fanning in the lead role and Emma Thompson writing the script, started shooting. Now ThomsonOnHollywood says a rvial movie is in the works with Keira Knightley attached to the lead.

This version is called Untouched, and has House Of Sand director Andrucha Waddington onboard to helm. The film is currently at the American Film Market looking for backing, which it may find difficult to get, considering such a high-profile rival film is already shooting.

Effie Gray was a teenager who married famed London art critic John Ruskin (Greg Wise) in 1848, despite the fact he was more than 20 years her senior. The pairing turned out to be a disaster, with Ruskin refusing to consummate the marriage to his young bride. Even though Effie was considered extremely attractive, Ruskin was somehow repulsed by her body (the possibly apocryphal story is that having only seen nudes in art, he was horrified at the sight of his bride’s pubic hair).

Effie eventually turned her affections to Ruskin’s protege, John Everett Millais (Tom Sturridge), and became his muse. A love triangle developed, with Effie mariage to Ruskin eventually annulled, allowing her to marry the pre-raphaelite painter. It’s a great story, so whether we get one film about it or two, it’s a tale worth telling.

Garrett Hedlund In Final Talks For Akira

November 4, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Last month we reported that after years of trying to get it sorted a live action version of Akira had finally gotten the greenlight from Warner Bros. At the time it was reported that frontrunner for the main role of Kaneda was Garrett Hedlund. Now the TRON: Legacy star has accepted the part and THR says he’s in final negotiations for it.

It was also said last month that Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter were offered the roles of Colonel and Lady Miyako, and while offers are still out to them, so far neither has signed on. Apparently Keira Knightley has also been apporached, although it isn’t certain how interested she is. If they all come onbaord, it’ll certainly be a big British contingent!

The film follows Kaneda, the leader of a motorcycle gang in futuristic New Manhattan. Kaneda tries to rescue his best friend, Tetsuo, from a government experiment. Jaume Collet-Serra is set to direct early in the new year, on a $90 million budget.
