Director: Grant Scicluna
Running Time: 99 mins

Release Date: October 24th 2016 (UK)

James (Reef Ireland) has just been released from a Youth Detention Centre, having been locked up when he was an adolescent for his involvement in the drowning death of another child. However, due to having an epileptic fit on that day, he doesn’t know what happened to the body, which disappeared and therefore left many open questions, not least from the kid’s mother.

Despite being told his probation is dependent on not returning to where the events took place, he heads there on a determined quest to discover what happened and where the body ended up. Most believe the dead child was washed down the river and cannot ever be found, but James thinks something else might have happened. [Read more…]

The Dressmaker Trailer – Chic Kate Winslet heads for the Aussie outback & a hunky Luke Hemsworth

August 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dressmaker-liam-hemsworthThe Dressmaker looks like it could be quite fun, and those who like Luke Hemsworth looking hunky should be pleased too.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘THE DRESSMAKER tells the story of the beautiful and talented Tilly Dunnage (Academy Award winner KATE WINSLET). After years working as a dressmaker in exclusive Parisian fashion houses, Tilly returns home to a town in the Australian outback to reconcile with her eccentric mother Molly (Academy Award nominee JUDY DAVIS). She also falls in love with the pure-hearted Teddy (LIAM HEMSWORTH), and armed with her sewing machine and haute couture style, Tilly transforms the women of the town, exacting sweet revenge on those who did her wrong.’

The great cast also includes Hugo Weaving, Caroline Goodall, Shane Bourne, and Kerry Fox. Take a look at the trailer below. It’ll be out in the US in September, and is already available on DVD in the UK. [Read more…]

Holding The Man (Cinema Review)

June 2, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Anthony LaPaglia, Craig Stott, Guy Pearce, Kerry Fox, Ryan Corr
Director: Neil Armfield
Running Time: 127 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 3rd 2016 (UK)

Holding The Man is evidence, if it were needed, of how difficult it is for gay-themed movies to crossover into the mainstream. Despite glowing reviews and a cast including Aussie luminaries such as Guy Pearce, Anthony LaPaglia and (briefly) Geoffrey Rush, as well as Kerry Fox (who’s actually a New Zealander), the movie has largely managed to fly under the radar, and a year on from its Australian debut it’s still waiting for a US release date.

However, it’s now arrived in the UK thanks to Peccadillo Pictures. Based on Tim Conigrave’s bestselling memoir, the film covers a roughly 15-year period, starting in the mid-70s when Tim (Ryan Corr) is in a Catholic high school and first begins hanging out with his crush, John (Craig Scott). It doesn’t take them long before they admit that they like each more than just friends. Inevitably their teenage love faces obstacles when the school and then their parents discover what is going on.
