The Legend Of Hercules (DVD Review)

August 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Kellan Lutz, Gaia Weiss, Scott Adkins, Liam Garrigan, Liam McIntyre
Director: Renny Harlin
Running Time: 94 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: August 4th 2014 (UK)

The Legend Of Hercules is less a movie than a collection of other films and TV series that have been dissected and then stitched back together to make something new (sort of). Fans of Greek mythology probably won’t be that impressed either, as while it takes little bits of the legends it creates its own story to turn it into a kind of superhero origin story.

The tyrannical King Amphitryon (Scott Adkins) is renowned as the most fearsome warrior around, who no one can beat in battle. His wife, Alcmene (Roxanne McKee), is told by a messenger of Hera that she will have a son by Zeus –who will be called Hercules – and whose destiny is to restore peace to the land. Amphitryon isn’t impressed by this new addition to the family, who he decides will be called Alcides, and is never shy about telling him he’s not as good as older brother Iphicles (Liam Garrigan). Spartacus’ Liam McIntyre Joins Kellan Lutz In Hercules 3D

April 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

liam-mcintyreThe battle of the Hercules movies is fast ramping up, with Dwayne Johnson and Brett Ratner teaming for a non-mythological take that will shoot this summer, while Renny Harlin has hired Kellan Lutz to his Greek hero in Hercules 3D. Now the latter movie has a new cast member, with Spartacus himself, Liam McIntyre swapping Rome for Greece, according to THR.

According to the trade, ‘McIntyre will play a young army captain who becomes Hercules’ most trusted battlefield companion. After an evil king deceives them, Hercules and the captain are sold into slavery and must fight side by side to earn their freedom.’

Harlin comments on the casting, “He’s infinitely entertaining to watch. I am lucky to have him play military commander, Sotiris, Hercules’ best friend. Their relationship begins antagonistic and develops into a close bond, forged in battle.”

The $70 million movie will shoot this summer in Bulgaria. The movie will mark Aussie actor McIntyre’s first feature film following his Spartacus success.
