Rebel Wilson, Bryan Cranston & Mads Mikkelsen Up For Kung Fu Panda 3

April 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rebel-wilsonWhile DreamWorks Animation has had a rather variable output record, one of the main bright spots (besides Shrek), has been Kung Fu Panda. We’ve already had one sequel and now another is on the way, with THR reporting that alongside franchise veterans Jack Black, Angelina Jolie and Seth Rogen, new characters will be voiced by Bryan Cranston, Mads Mikkelsen and Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson.

Unfortunately there’s no info on who the new actors will play as at the moment no plot info has been released. Safe to say though, Po the panda will be back trying to master martial arts, eat and much as he can and some sort of new threat will emerge which only him and his friends can sort out.

We won’t get to see the movie for a couple of year yet, as it’s not set for release until December 23rd, 2015.

The Hunt (DVD)

March 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Annika Wedderkopp, Lasse Fogerlstrom, Susse Wold
Director: Thomas Vinterberg
Running Time: 110 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 25th 2013

Winner of Best Actor and a couple of other prizes at Cannes, The Hunt comes to DVD with a great pedigree behind it. It would have probably got a Best Foreign Language Oscar nomination too, except that Denmark decided to submit A Royal Affair (also starring Mads Mikkelsen) instead, and each country is only allowed one film in the race.

Directed by Thomas Vinterberg (Festen), the film is about Lucas (Mikkelsen), who works at a local nursery school. He’s involved in a custody fight with his son, but things look up when it appears his kid will be coming to live with him. [Read more…]

Hannibal Trailer – Take a look at the TV series prequel to the Lecter tales

March 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Silence Of The Lambs and Hannibal showed us what happened after Will Graham captured cannibal serial killer Hannibal Lecter, Red Dragon only let us know what happened when Will actually got his man as well as that he’d been working with the psychologist beforehand, not knowing Hannibal was the man he was hunting.

Now TV is going to tell us that story, with Hugh Dancy taking on the Will Graham role, with Mads Mikkelsen as Lecter, long before he ever met Clarice Starling. While some have wondered whether television will do Lecter justice, we get our first chance to take a look with a trailer.

It certainly looks like it could be interesting, with Hannibal playing with the FBI investigator and trying to get him to truly understand the mind of the killer. Laurence Fishburne also stars.

The show begins in the US in early April, and should hopefully reach the UK now long afterwards.

First Look At Mads Mikkelsen As Hannibal Lecter In New TV Show

October 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There have been a lot of discontented grumblings about the idea of moving the character of Hannibal Lecter from film to TV, but it was certainly positive when Bryan Fuller (Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies) signed up to oversee the show and Mads Mikkelsen came onboard to play Hannibal.

Now the first stills from Hannibal have arrived, via scans from the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. They show Mikkelsen taking to the role with relish, Hugh Dancy as Will Graham, and Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford. The show is a prequel to the other Hannibal stories, looking at how Graham worked with psychiatrist Lecter before he discovered the doctor was actually a serial killing cannibal. Fuller has said he wants to look at how the two men are two sides of the same coin.

The show is expected to debut in the US early next year and should come to the UK not long afterwards.

Have The Villains Of Thor 2 Been Revealed?

July 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last weekend, Marvel released a lot of news about their upcoming movies, but while they announced the sequel to Thor would be callled Thor: The Dark World, they didn’t have much to say about the plot. However now it appears we know who the villains are for the film, which begins shooting this August.

The movie is said to have to have a stronger Norse influence, and will have a very ‘Viking’ centric vibe. Mads Mikkelsen was originally set to play the villain, but recently dropped out. While we don’t know who is replacing him just yet, we now have an idea about whom he was set to play. In an interview with I Review Too that dates back to early June (dug up by Comic Book Movie), stuntman James Grogan let it slip that Thor will be going up against the Dark Elves of Svartlalfheim in the movie. Which makes sense, considering the new title revealed during Comic-Con 2012.

Here is what Grogan had to say, “The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor: The Dark World. I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.”

This has led to speculation that Mads Mikkelsen was cast to play Malekith The Accursed, ruler of the Dark Elves, and a not very friendly guy. This blue, pointed-eared villain has super human strength and speed, along with the ability to teleport and project energy. Malekith’s biggest storyline in the comics finds him teaming up with Loki to retrieve the Casket of Ancient Winters, which allows its user to control the icy weather conditions on Niflheim. It also makes its user younger.

Of course, this plotline has not yet been confirmed by the studio. Thor: The Dark World comes to theaters November 8th, 2013.

Mads Mikkelsen Out As Thor 2 Villain

July 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of months ago, Marvel announced that they signed Casino Royale’s Mads Mikkelsen to play the villain on Thor 2. However now it’s been revealed the studio will have to find a new bad guy for the movie, as Mads Mikkelsen has revealed that he won’t star in this follow-up to Thor due to his commitment to the NBC pilot Hannibal.

In a recent interview with Zoomin Movies, he said, “Yeah, that’s not happening unfortunately. I had a meeting with them, but they were a little too late. And then Hannibal came in, and everything just came in the same period, so now it’s not happening.”

This is the second project in as many days to encounter a stumbling block because of Hannibal. Director David Slade was forced to bow out of 20th Century Fox’s Daredevil reboot as he is directing the NBC pilot.

Mads Mikkelsen Playing Hannibal Lecter On TV

June 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The future of Hannibal Lecter is on TV, as series based on both Clarice Starling and Hannibal himself (as well as FBI agent Will Graham) are in development. The latter is being shepherded to the small screen by Pushing Daisies creator, Bryan Fuller, who has now found his serial killer in the forms of Mads Mikkelsen.

The actor won Best Actor at Cannes just a few weeks ago for The Hunt, but is probably best known as the villain in Casino Royale. Now he’s going to TV to play Hannibal Lecter in the NBC show, according to Deadline. Will Graham is yet to be cast, but the show will focus on his hunt for the Lecter, expanding on events touched upon in Red Dragon and The Silence Of The Lambs.

David Slade (Hard Candy, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) will direct the pilot, which is expected to start airing early next year, with NBC having already ordered 13 episodes. Whether Lecter will work on TV is another matter, especially considering US network television will limit the violence and terror it will be able to show.

Michael Haneke’s Amour Wins The Cannes Palm d’Or

May 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cannes really loves Michael Haneke. In 2009 they awarded his movie White Ribbon the Palm d’Or and now they’ve given his follow-up, Amour, exactly the same prize, one of the most prestigious gongs on the festival calendar.

Amour is the story of an octogenarian couple and how they deal with the end of love and life as the wife deteriorates physically and mentally. The film has been a critics’ favourite ever since it screened on the festival’s first Sunday and was tipped for the Palm d’Or ever since. While the festival often throws up surprises (it’s very dependent on who’s on the small jury), this year they gave the favourite the main prize.

Amour wasn’t the only winner though, with a surprised Mads Mikkelsen getting Best Actor for his role in Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt, while Best Actress went to Cosmina Stratan and Cristina Flutur for Cristian Mungiu’s Beyond the Hills. Ken Loach meanwhile picked up the Jury Prize for his film The Angels’ Share, with the director saying as he picked up his gong, “Cannes shows us that cinema is not just a diversion, it shows us who we are and how we live together.”

Here’s the full list of winners.

Mads Mikkelsen Up For Thor 2 Baddie

May 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Casino Royale’s Danish bad guy Mads Mikkelsen, is in talks to play a bad guy in Thor 2, according to Variety, although at the moment there’s no news on exactly what character he might be playing.

We do know he’ll be a villain, but at the moment we don’t know who. If you’re worried this means there won’t be any Loki in the movie, don’t worry, there will be, but it appears he’ll have help causing trouble from Mikkelsen. Marevel has suggested it will be a pretty big role, upping the ante on the issues ol’ Thor has to deal with.

The film is scheduled for release November 15th, 2013, and should shoot later this summer
