Brad Pitt & Javier Bardem May Join The Counselor

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few days ago, it was revealed that Angelina Jolie had met Ridley Scott about a small role in the upcoming The Counselor, and now it appears her longtime squeeze Brad Pitt may also be up for a role, while Javier Bardem is also circling a part too, according to Deadline.

In the film, Michael Fassbender will portray a lawyer who gets in over his head when he tries his hand at drug trafficking. No details have been given for Brad Pitt or Javier Bardem’s roles, but they may play villains. Deals aren’t yet in place for either of the actors, or indeed Jolie, but if it all comes together, it’ll certainly be quite a cast.

Ridley Scott is directing from a screenplay by Cormac McCarthy. Scott hopes to shoot this summer, once he’s completed promotional work on Prometheus.

Angelina Jolie In Talks For The Counselor Supporting Role

April 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Whether it’s because she likes the role or just wants to work with Ridley Scott, Angelina Jolie is in talks for a small part in The Counselor, according to Vulture, joining Michael Fassbender, Jeremy Renner, and Natalie Portman (although the last two of those still have to sign on the dotted line).

It’s now known exactly what part Jolie is in talks for, but it believed to be a relatively brief role. The Counselor is the first original script by legendary author Cormac McCarthy and follows a lawyer (Fassbender) who is looking to get into the drug trade.

Ridley Scott hopes to have The Counselor in front of cameras by June, giving Angelina Jolie enough time to shoot her few scenes before headlining Maleficent for Walt Disney Pictures, which plans to shoot this year for release in 2014.

X-Men: First Class Sequel Shooting In January

April 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a bit of uncertainty over when Fox would shoot their sequel to X-Men: First Class, much of which has been due to the fact that with stars like Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence’s career going stratospheric, it’s been tough to get the scheduling right. However, now 20th Century Fox has announced that they will begin shooting their X-Men: First Class Sequel in January.

Tensions between the Fox and Lionsgate ran high last month as Fox was considering filming First Class 2 in the Autumn, using their option with actress Jennifer Lawrence. This would have potentially overlapped with Lionsgate’s plans for The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, which needs to shoot before the year is out to hit its November 2013 release date. Lawrence is tied in to both franchises, which is great for her but does cause a scheduling nightmare.

All the main cast from X-Men: First Class are expected to return. Matthew Vaughn will once more direct. (Source: THR)

Extended Prometheus UK Trailer

March 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Over the weekend a superb new trailer for Prometheus debuted, and while it’s difficult not to feel Fox is slightly going for overkill on its marketing for the movie, they’ve also released a slightly extended UK version of the trailer featuring quite a lot of different footage. It all looks great, and if nothing else it proves that visually nobody does sci-fi like Ridley Scott. The film sees people heading off into the stars looking for the origins of mankind that have been hinted at in civilisations across the ages, but getting more than they bargained for. The sort-of Alien prequel is out June 1st.

Prometheus Trailer – It’s looking epic!

March 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After an almost farcical amount of hype, the full trailer for Prometheus has arrived, and it’s epic! While Ridley Scott has been keen to say it’s not an Alien movie, the trailer makes it clear that this is a full-on prequel to the famed series, even if it doesn’t feature the creatures themselves. It also gives us a better hint at the plot, with clues in ancient Earth civilisations hinting at the existence of an alien species the spaceship Prometheus sets off to find, only to discover things are more dangerous than they expected. Take a look at the trailer below and prepare to be impressed! We’ve also includes a new viral below, about growing your own Michael Fassbender!

Michael Fassbender Takes On The Mountain Between Us

March 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michael Fassbender has his pick of projects at the moment, and he’s doing a good job of balancing the big paycheque, high profile roles with smaller, more interesting films. The latest movie he’s attached himself to is The Mountain Between Us for director Gerardo Naranjo (Miss Bala), according to Variety.

The romantic drama is adapted from Charles Martin’s novel, which follows two strangers who survive a plane crash and depend on each other to survive in the harsh Colorado mountains, before falling for one another. Michael Fassbender will play Ben Trace, a doctor who uses his expert climbing skills to get Ashley, an injured writer, safely down the mountain. The role of Ashley has not been cast yet.

Gerardo Naranjo will direct from a screenplay by J. Mills Goodloe (Maverick, Assassins), although it isn’t known when production might begin. With Fassbender a very busy boy, it may be a while before he can slot it in.

Safe House Helmer Daniel Espinosa Directing The Outsider

March 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Daniel Espinosa was already a darling on the foreign film circuit for Snabba Cash, and now he’s scored a big mainstream hit with the recent Safe House. As a result he’s got his pick of projects, and so has booked a new movie in the form of The Outsider, with Warner Bros. currently hammering out a deal with the director to take on the action thriller, according to Variety.

Written by Andrew Baldwin, the gritty flick is about a POW in Osaka in WWII who goes to work for the Yakuza. Not a huge amount more is known about the movie, but it’s definitely a promising set-up.

No offers have gone out to actors yet, but Warner Bros. is apparently eyeing Michael Fassbender to star. That’s not necessarily saying much, as Fassbender’s at the top of the list for half the projects going in Hollywood, but don’t be shocked if he does end up starring.

Michael Fassbender Confirmed For Ridley Scott’s The Counselor

February 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ridley Scott normally spends month, sometimes years, developing movies, but in the last few weeks The Counselor has come out of nowhere, nabbed Ridley as a director and will start shooting May 1st. There’s a good reason things have come together fast, as that’s because it’s the first script by acclaimed writer Cormac McCarthy.

A couple of weeks ago it was reported Michael Fassbender was circling the movie, and now Deadline reports the actor has been confirmed for the film, which will reunite him with Ridley following this summer’s Prometheus.

Insiders have said The Counselor is “No Country For Old Men on steroids,” about a respected lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down. It is a bad decision and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.

Now Scott is moving on to finding his very evil bad guy, who Deadline compares to No Country’s Javier Bardem. Names such as Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper and Brad Pitt are being bandied about, but there’s nothing certain.

Michael Fassbender Boards Celtic Warrior Cuchulain Movie

February 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michael Fassbender is a very busy and in-demand man, but he’s finding time to develop a project alongside screenwriter Ronan Bennett (Public Enemies) about the legendary Celtic warrior Cuchulain.

The project will be set in Northern Ireland and is based on the Ulster Cycle, a series of Irish legends that date back to the 8th Century. The story revolves around King Conchobar and his Uliad Tribe’s conflict with Queen Mebh’s Conchatta Tribe. Fassbender will be Cuchulain, Conchobar’s nephew who possesses super-human fighting skills. The most famous of these tales is the Cattle Raid of Cooley, where Cuchulain manages to fend off an entire army sent to steal Conchobar’s prized white bull.

Fassbender and Bennett have raised development funds through Finn McCool Films, although no studio is attached to the project at the moment, however the actor is so hot at the moment, finding full funding shouldn’t be too much of a problem. (Source: Variety)
