Final Bright Trailer – Netflix’s Will Smith starring fantasy police procedural is coming soon

December 12, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bright is one of Netflix’s biggest gambits yet – a $90 million, fantasy thriller, with a major star (Will Smith) that they’ve bought the worldwide release rights. Unlike Amazon, which has given a full cinema release to some of the movies it has backed, Netflix is only planning a limited theatrical release for Bright and only once it’s already streaming via their service.

A new trailer for the film has been released, which suggest it’ll be a strange but potentially pretty good movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in an alternate present-day, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watch, writer of Training Day) follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward, a human (Will Smith), and Jakoby, an orc (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a deadly, thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.

‘The Netflix original film stars Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Enrique Murciano, Jay Hernandez, Andrea Navedo, Veronica Ngo, Alex Meraz, Margaret Cho, Brad William Henke, Dawn Olivieri, and Kenneth Choi. The film is directed by David Ayer and written by Max Landis. David Ayer, Eric Newman, and Bryan Unkeless serve as producers.’

Bright will be on Netflix from December 22nd. [Read more…]

Bright Trailer – Will Smith takes fantasy characters into a police procedural world

July 23, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Bright is one of Netflix’s biggest gambits yet – a big-budget, fantasy thriller, with a major star (Will Smith), and now plans to release it in cinemas. Yep, they’ve bought the release rights to the $90 million movie outright, and will be streaming it worldwide at the end of the year.

A new trailer for the film has been released, which suggest it’ll be a strange but potentially pretty good movie.

Bright Teaser Trailer – Netflix brings us a Will Smith fantasy crime movie from Suicide Squad’s David Ayer

February 27, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just a few years ago, the idea that Netflix would be bringing us big budget movies with a-list stars would have seemed ludicrous. But this is the year that Amazon’s Manchester By The Sea can win Oscar, and Will Smith is starring in a movie that will debut on Netflix, Bright.

The first trailer for that movie has now arrived. Take a look at it below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves and fairies have been coexisting since the beginning of time, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watch, writer of Training Day) follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward, a human (Will Smith), and Jakoby, an orc (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a young female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.

‘The Netflix original film stars Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Enrique Murciano, Jay Hernandez, Andrea Navedo, Veronica Ngo, Alex Meraz, Margaret Cho, Brad William Henke, Dawn Olivieri, and Kenneth Choi. The film is directed by David Ayer and written by Max Landis. David Ayer, Eric Newman, and Bryan Unkeless serve as producers.’

The film will hit Netflix in December. [Read more…]

Noomi Rapace Up For Enzo Ferrari Biopic, Opposite Christian Bale

October 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

noomi-rapaceA couple of months ago news emerged that Christian Bale had signed on to play the central role in a biopic of Enzo Ferrari that director Michael Mann has been planning for many years.

Now THR adds that Noomi Rapace is in talks to star, with Paramount picking up the project to fund it.

The film apparently concentrates on a single year, 1957. That year is particularly significant for the Italian car-maker, as it was when Ferrari driver, Alfonso de Portago, was killed during the Mille Miglia race. The driver and nine spectators died when a tire blew out and his car careened into the roadside crowd.

It caused a major crisis for Ferrari that could have destroyed the company, especially as Enzo was charged with manslaughter over the event. Rapace would play Farrari’s wife, Laura Dominica.

Child 44 (Blu-ray Review)

August 23, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Joel Kinnaman
Director: Daniel Espinosa
Running Time: 137 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: August 24th 2015 (UK)

When it was first announced Child 44 seemed like a good bet – based on a hit book, directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Easy Money) and a really good cast. However, when it arrived in cinemas it was met with bad reviews and made hardly any money at the box office.

I’m not entirely sure where all the animosity came from though, as while it has quite a few problems it’s certainly tense, uneasy and very watchable.

Set in post-World War II Soviet Russia, Tom Hardy is Leo Demidov, an investigator for the feared MGB who roots out traitors for Stalin. The organisation is judge, jury and executioner – and it extracts ways to find guilt in everyone they arrest. It’s an era of massive paranoia and one where deviating from the official line on something can be a death sentence. [Read more…]

Child 44 Trailer – Tom Hardy investigates a string of child murders

January 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

child-44-poster1Tom Hardy is getting dramatic for Child 44, and he’s also going a bit Russian, alongside an excellent cast including Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Vincent Cassel, Joel Kinnaman, Jason Clarke and Paddy Considine.

Now the first trailer has arrived, but to watch it you’ll have to click over to Apple.

Based on Tom Rob Smith’s novel, with Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa directing, the Soviet Union set thriller is about a military police officer named Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy) who has to investigate a string of brutal child murders that took place during the Stalin era. As he begins to dig further and further into the case, he realises that his government is keeping a sharp eye on every move he makes, and refuses to admit that the killings are actually happening.

Oldman is the head of police, who has problems with what Hardy is doing, while Rapace, who’s in the image below, is Tom’s wife.

Jared Leto May Find Brilliance, Replacing Will Smith

June 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jared-LetoBefore Dallas Buyers Club, Jared Leto hadn’t made a film since Mr. Nobody in 2009 (largely by choice as he was concentrating on music), but since his Best Supporting Actor win there’s understandably been a lot of interest in him.

Now he may have found a new role, as Deadline reports that he is in early talk to take the lead role in Brilliance. The news comes just a few weeks after the previously attached Will Smith bailed on the movie.

David Koepp (Jurassic Park) came up with the script, based on the Marcus Sakey novel. The book is set in a world where special individuals known as ‘brilliants’ have heightened abilities. The plot follows a government agent whose ‘brilliant’ gift is tracking down terrorists. However he may have met his match when tasked to find a dangerous man in Wyoming with his own set of special skills.

Noomi Rapace is also attached, with Julius Onah (Undefeated) directing.
