Adam Sandler, Josh Gad & Peter Dinklage Get Kinda Heroic In The First Pic From Pixels

July 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Pixels-preview-pic1After a while in development (the short film it’s based on was released in 2010), the fun sounding Pixels finally went into production earlier this year. Now we get the first pic, courtesy of a scan from EW.

It features Adam Sandler, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage, who aren’t exactly looking desperately heroic despite their sparkly outfits, alongside the film’s female lead, Michelle Monaghan.

The short film, by Patrick Jean, saw New York City being transformed into and destroyed by 8-bit pixel classic videogames. This movie version features aliens getting confused by video feeds of classic arcade games, thinking that it is a declaration of war against their species. As a result they attack the Earth by staging versions of these games in real life on a massive scale.

Sandler, Gad and Dinklage are the unlikely trio of videogame champions who may be Earth’s only hope, with Monaghan as the naval officer assigned to help them. Kevin James meanwhile plays the president.

The Chris Columbus directed movie is due out May 2015.

True Detective (Blu-ray Review)

June 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Alexandra Daddario, Kevin Dunn
Director: Cary Fukunaga
Running Time: 440 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: June 9th 2014 (UK)

HBO has certainly got itself a reputation in the last few years for bringing the big screen onto the small screen, whether it’s with films like Behind The Candelabra and The Normal Heart or by getting big name stars to appear in its TV series. With True Detective they lured in Matthew McConaughey (just before he was going to win an Oscar) and Woody Harrelson, as well as Jane Eyre director Cary Fukunaga, for what the makers have describes as an eight-part cinematic experience.

Although that might sound rather hyperbolic, this time it pretty much lives up to the hype, even if it isn’t the total masterpiece some have suggested. [Read more…]

The Best Of Me Trailer – James Marsden gets a Nicholas Sparks adaptation

June 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul Walker was due to join the likes of Zac Efron, Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum and Josh Duhamel as the male star of a Nicholas Sparks adaptation. However his death sadly prevented that. Instead he was replaced by the James Marsden and we get our first taste of how well he’s done with it thanks to this trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the bestselling novel by acclaimed author Nicholas Sparks, The Best of Me tells the story of Dawson (Marsden) and Amanda (Michelle Monaghan), two former high school sweethearts who find themselves reunited after 20 years apart, when they return to their small town for the funeral of a beloved friend. Their bittersweet reunion reignites the love they’ve never forgotten, but soon they discover the forces that drove them apart twenty years ago live on, posing even more serious threats today. Spanning decades, this epic love story captures the enduring power of our first true love, and the wrenching choices we face when confronted with elusive second chances.’

It’s not Marsden’s first trip to Sparks-town, as he also had a bit part in The Notebook, but here he gets to take centre stage. The Best of Me is due this autumn. [Read more…]

Michelle Monaghan Signs Up To be Adam Sandler’s Love Interest In Pixels

April 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michelle-MonaghanMichelle Monaghan has been having recent success with True Detective, but now she’s heading in a slightly different director as she has signed up to play the female lead in Pixels, according to THR, opposite Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage.

The movie is based on Patrick Jean’s 2010 short film, which sees New York City being transformed into and destroyed by 8-bit pixel classic videogames. This movie version is about aliens who confused a video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against their species. As a result they attack the Earth by staging versions of these games in real life on a massive scale.

Kevin James will be the US President, who turns to his childhood best friend (Sandler) to lead a team of gamers to stop this attack. Sandler is a former video game champion who now makes his living as a home theatre installer. Josh Gad is portraying a genius obsessed with conspiracy theories, while Peter Dinklage will play Adam Sandler’s brash rival.

Monaghan meanwhile is playing a weapons developer who’s the love interest of Adam Sandler’s character. Yes, once again in Hollywoodland a schlubby man has a ridiculously beautiful and significantly younger woman as their love interest.

Chris Columbus is directing from a script by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling. Negotiations are currently underway to include several classic videogames in the movie.
