Catch .44 (Blu-ray)

May 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Bruce Willis, Malin Akerman, Nikki Reed, Deborah Ann Woll
Director: Aaron Harvey
Running Time: 90 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 28th, 2012

Writer/director Aaron Harvey really wants to be Quentin Tarantino, and I mean REALLY wants to be. While many people have made films that can be considered Tarantino-esque, Catch .44 takes that to the extreme but falls short on just about every level. Despite trying everything from fast-paced dialogue that seems to be about random topics to dicking around with the timeline, all the film really manages to prove is that Quentin is a singular talent, and you can’t just copy and paste his style in a slightly amateurish way and expect it to work.

Three young women (Malin Akerman, Nikki Reed and Deborah Ann Woll) are in a cafe in rural Louisiana when one of them appears to start a stick-up, which soon goes horribly wrong. The film then jump around the timeline, gradually revealing how we got to the café and what happens after, which involves a sleazy drug kingpin (Bruce Willis), a brutal killer (Forest Whitaker) and a job to intercept a lucrative dope deal. However nothing is quite what it seems. [Read more…]

Twilight’s Nikki Reed Says Snap In New Psychological Thriller

January 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Twilight has given quite a lot of young actors and actresses a moment to shine, but how many of them will manage to turn that into lasting success is difficult to gauge. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Anna Kendrick seem to be doing okay, and now Nikki Reed is hoping to further her post-Twilight career with a psychological thriller called Snap.

According to Deadline, she’ll star alongside Jake Hoffman in the movie, which is a psychological thriller set in the world of underground dubstep. Jake Hoffman (Barney’s Version) will play a brilliant but painfully introverted musician who develops a crush on a young social worker, played by Reed. While she is initially drawn in by Jim’s musical genius, his inner demons spiral out of control when the romance fizzles, with shocking and tragic results.

Victor Teran and Youssef Delara will direct the movie, with a shoot scheduled for March.

Nikki Reed & Stephen Lang Join Pawn

December 2, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

A couple of days ago it was revealed that Michael Chiklis and Forest Whitaker were set to star in an indie thriller called Pawn. Now the cast has got a whole lot bigger, with a few interesting names added to the mix. THR reports that Nikki Reed, Sean Faris, Stephen Lang, Marton Csokas, Jessica Szohr and Jonathan Bennett have all joined the movie.

Hopefully Lang has been given a role that isn’t the same grumpy character he’s played in everything from Avatar and Conan to TV’s Terra Nova, but we wouldn’t bet on it.

David A. Armstrong will direct a screenplay from Jay Anthony White, which centres on an ex-con who gets caught up in a hostage situation gone terribly awry, where he has to fend off the local police, FBI agents, and the mob.

Michael Chiklis will also make his feature producing debut with the film. Shooting starts soon.
