Here’s the synopsis: ‘Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. Life Super Bowl Spot – Jake Gyllenhaal & Ryan Reynolds find life on Mars

February 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The poor old International Space Station. It floats around doing good for science, but in the movies it’s a hotseat of problems, whether it’s getting smashed to smithereens in Gravity, or now in Life, being the location for a dangerous first contact with alien intelligence.

The Super Bowl spot for the movie has been released, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. Moonlight Takes Best Drama Golden Globe, While La La Land Sets A Record

January 9, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The members of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association sure like La La Land, with the movie taking a record seven Golden Globes, more than any other single movie has ever taken. It did so well that the only categories it was eligible for that it didn’t pick up, were the the Supporting Actress and Actor categories – and seeing as the movie is so strongly built around Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, that’s not too much of a surprise.

However, it wasn’t just La La Land at the Globes, as gay-themed drama Moonlight also had some extremely good news, as it took the Best Picture – Drama gong. It means that while La La Land is now the frontrunner for the Best Picture Oscar, Moonlight could cause an upset, having not just taken the Best Drama Globe, but also having won numerous critics association awards. It’s certainly an impressive achievement for a low budget movie that many had thought would go the route of Tangerine – scoring enthusiastic reviews and a lot of love, but getting overlooked by major awards bodies.

The Golden Globe awards were also marked by a lot of concern about the rise of Donald Trump, with Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Limited Series or TV Movie winner Hugh Laurie quipping, “Thank you, first of all, to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this amazing honour. I suppose it’s made more amazing by the fact that I’ll be able to say that I won this at the last ever Golden Globes. I don’t mean to be gloomy. It’s just that it has the words ‘Hollywood,’ ‘foreign,’ and ‘press’ in the title.”

Meryl Streep also gave a pretty epic speech decrying Trump and calling on the arts and the press to hold power to account. You can take a look at it below.

One other thing many couldn’t help noticing was a same sex smooch at the ceremony! After Ryan Gosling beat Ryan Reynolds to the Best Actor – Musical or Comedy gong, Andrew Garfield was spotted planting a big smooch on Reynolds’ lips as Gosling went up for his award. You can take a look at that below too, along with the full list of winners. [Read more…]

Ryan Reynolds Suggests Deadpool May One Day Get A Boyfriend, Because The Film Was Banned In China!

January 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Almost a year ago, just before Deadpool was released, Ryan Reynolds said he’d be interested in exploring the character’s sexuality, and possibly getting him a boyfriend. However, while there were quips in the movie suggesting Pool wasn’t averse to crushing on guys, he wasn’t quite the full-on pansexual character he is in the comics.

Following the film’s huge success, Fox quickly put a sequel into the works, but some wondered whether with tens of millions at stake, it would make them more nervous about exploring the character’s sexuality in future Deadpool movies. Thankfully though, Reynolds says the franchise is still open to it.

Reynolds tells Variety, “What love is to Deadpool may not be what love is to Batman or someone else. I think that could be played up more. He’s an outsider in every way, shape, and form.”

Oddly the fact the first movie was banned in China might actually help the films to be more open about Deadpool’s pansexuality. One of the reasons Hollywood is reluctant to have LGBT-inclusion in its biggest movies is because they fear being banned or affecting the box office in less gay-friendly countries, especially the increasingly important Chinese market.

“That’s not really a problem for us,” Reynolds adds, “Because we were banned in China. We were rated ‘f— you!’ in China…

“The only thing that you have to consider going forward is, ‘Are we being faithful to the canon that we nurtured and created?’. One of those things is that Deadpool is in love with Vanessa. Deadpool isn’t in love with Vanessa just because she’s a woman. He’s in love with Vanessa because he loves her.”

That suggests that at least in the short term, Deadpool’s main romantic interest will remain a woman, but it’ll be interesting to see if 2018’s Deadpool 2 finds room to play up the breadth of the character’s sexuality, or whether we’ll have to wait for later movies. However, if Ryan really wants to stay true to the comic books, they should try to make things a little more overt.

Ryan Reynolds May Take On The Rosie Project

April 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ryan-reynolds-slideNot too long ago The Rosie Project looked like it was going to bring together the interesting duo of Jennifer Lawrence and Richard Linklater. However when she decided to make Darren Aronofsky’s next film, they both left the film behind.

However, Sony is still very keen on the film and it appears they may have found a new lead, as Variety reports that Ryan Reynolds is currently circling The Rosie Project. It doesn’t look like there’s a new director as yet though.

The film is based on the Graeme Simsion novel, which is about a socially awkward genetics professor [which is presumably Reynolds’ role], who devises a science-based survey to find the perfect mate – only to see those theories splintered when he meets the spontaneous Rosie Jarman, who possesses the opposite qualities. However, he becomes increasingly intrigued by Rosie’s quest to find her biological father.

It’s not clear when it might shoot.

Jake Gyllenhaal Is In For Life With Ryan Reynolds & Rebecca Ferguson

March 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jake-GyllenhaalJake Gyllenhaal has gotten Life – or at least he’s signed on to star in a movie of that name. He joins the previously cast Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson in the sci-fi tale (some reports have suggested Gyllenhaal is replacing Reynolds, but Variety says both actors will be involved).

The film follows ‘the crew of the International Space Station, who, after retrieving a sample from Mars, discover that it displays signs of life, and proves to be more intelligent than expected.’ There’s no info on whether the tone is more action or horror, or indeed possible comedy, considering it’s written by Deadpool’s Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) is set to direct the movie. It’s expected to shoot this year, probably after Gyllenhaal is finished with Stronger, about the Boston Marathon bombings.

Mississippi Grind (DVD Review)

March 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ben Mendelsohn, Ryan Reynolds, Sienna Miller, Yvonne Landry, Alfre Woodard
Director: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck
Running Time: 108 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 7th 2016 (UK)

There are undoubtedly some people who will watch Mississippi Grind and wonder what the point of it is, as not a vast amount happens other than two guys drifting around and gambling on various things. However, others will appreciate this look at two men leading lives on the periphery of society, who lack connection but may have found some sort of direction in each other.

Gerry (Ben Mendelsohn) is an inveterate gambler who’s lost his wife and child, he’s massively in debt and has run out of time to pay it off. Then he meets Curtis (Ryan Reynolds), who also loves to bet, but still has life and verve – something Gerry is severely lacking. While he’s a drifter, he couches it in terms of being a free spirit who goes where life takes him. [Read more…]

February 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

criminal-kevin-costnerIf you had to choose, would you prefer your brain to be put in Ryan Reynolds’ body or Kevin Costner’? Well the situation Ryan has to face in Criminal is suddenly becoming Kevin, which would be confusing enough for anybody.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, The Proposal) and Oscar-winner Kevin Costner (DraftDay, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), CRIMINAL follows a CIA operative (Reynolds), whose memories and skills are implanted into an unpredictable and dangerous death-row inmate (Costner) in a last-ditch effort to stop an international terrorist plot.’

With Deadpool currently ripping up the box office, it’s certainly a good time to drop the trailer, so take a look at it below. It’ll be in cinemas on April 15th.

Deadpool Super Bowl Spot – The Merc With A Mouth doesn’t have much time for football

February 8, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Deadpool-International-One-Sheet-slideAs you might expect, Deadpool isn’t going to let the Super Bowl go by without a quip and a snide comment – although one that it has to be said that feels like it was carefully picked not to be too offensive. With the movie due out this week, the Big Game was the perfect opportunity to showcase the X-Men character’s unique brand of superhero-antics.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.’

The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, T.J. Miller and Ed Skrein. It’ll be in cinemas in February, but enjoy the trailer below.
