War Machine Trailer – Brad Pitt is going to war for Netflix

March 31, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Netflix has shown they can take on television at their own game (something most thought was impossible a few years ago), and now they want to show Hollywood they can make really big movies too. This year they’ve got the likes of Bright, starring Will Smith, as well as War Machine, with Brad Pitt. The trailer for the latter has now arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An absurdist war story for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an exploration of a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story’s core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on a successful, charismatic four-star general who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist’s no-holds-barred exposé.

‘The Netflix original film is inspired by the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by the late journalist Michael Hastings. Joining Pitt in War Machine is a highly decorated cast including Tilda Swinton, Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall, Topher Grace, Will Poulter, Lakeith Stanfield, Emory Cohen, John Magaro, RJ Cyler, Alan Ruck, Scoot McNairy and Meg Tilly. Ian Bryce and Plan B’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Brad Pitt serve as producers. James Skotchdopole serves as executive producer. The film will be released on Netflix on May 26, 2017.’ [Read more…]

War Machine Teaser Trailer – Netflix show off its upcoming movie starring Brad Pitt

March 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Today Netflix was in Berlin, trying to woo the European market and showing off some of its upcoming wares. After releasing a trailer for Bright, starring Will Smith a couple of days ago, they decided today was a good time for the first teaser for another film they’ve got up their sleeve featuring a-list talent – War Machine, starring Brad Pitt.

The Revenant (Cinema Review)

January 14, 2016 By Stephen Sclater Leave a Comment

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter
Director: Alejandro Gonazalez Inarritu
Running Time: 156 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: January 15th 2016 (UK)

2016 should be the year that Leonardo DiCaprio bags his first Oscar, while Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu picks his second for Best Director and Best Picture (following last year’s Birdman). As in the title of the film, DiCaprio is a revenant – a person who has returned supposedly from the dead.

Based on a true story, the premise of the film is one of revenge set against the backdrop of the bleak wilderness of America around 1820. Glass (played by DiCaprio) and his half-Indian son are fur trappers, whose party is attacked by a group of Indians intent on stealing their fur so that they can trade it with the French. The decimated party then struggle against the elements to make their way back to their base, whilst trying to shake off the Indians, who are intent on killing them and stealing the furs. Will Poulter Is ‘It’ In A New Take On Stephen King’s Horror Novel

May 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-poulterFor a while there’s been talk about a new film version of Stephen King’s It, with Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) attached to direct. Now it’s moved a little closer to the screen as Variety reports the movie has found its villainous Pennywise The Clown in the form of Will Poulter.

Although he’s a lot younger than Tim Curry was when he took on the role in the 80s (initially the new film intended to go older too, looking at the likes of Mark Rylance and Ben Mendelsohn), it’s a potentially smart move as Will has shown he can be funny, as in We’re The Millers, but is also getting buzz for his more dramatic, intense role in The Revenant.

The current plan is to make two movies, based on Kings book which follows, ‘a group of outcast kids who come together over summer break to take on the monster that’s haunting their town, battling their own personal monsters in the process.’

Filming will start this summer.

The Maze Runner (Blu-ray Review)

February 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Will Poulter, Ki Hong Lee, Aml Ameen
Director: Wes Ball
Running Time: 108 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: February 9th 2015

After the success of The Hunger Games it’s not too surprising that Hollywood rushed to put similarly themed movies into production, such as Divergent and now The Maze Runner.  While nearly all the knock-offs of Twilight, and indeed Harry Potter, were pretty rubbish, The Maze Runner isn’t bad at all.

Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) wakes up in a metal cage that’s rising out of the ground. He has no idea who he is or how he got there but finds himself thrust into the strange world of The Glade, where every month for three years a new young man has arrived, also with no idea what they’re doing there. A society led by Gally (Will Poulter) has arisen, bound by rules supposed to keep them alive. [Read more…]

The Maze Runner (Cinema Review)

October 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Will Poulter, Thomas Brodie-Sangster
Director: Wes Ball
Running Time: 113 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: October 10th 2014 (UK)

With any teen action/fantasy film, there are always going to be comparisons to the very obvious Twilight, Divergent and the box office Phenomenon that is The Hunger Games – all film franchises adapted from highly acclaimed books aimed initially at the teen market.

Like many of these successful franchises, The Maze Runner is a trilogy also with prequel to follow, this one written by James Dashner.

The plot? Well to no real surprise, again we have a lead character thrown into a situation out of their control, where they have to battle against all odds for survival using sheer willpower and strength of character – also seen in past classics Lord Of the Flies and Battle Royale. [Read more…]

New The Maze Runner Trailer – Dylan O’Brien is thrust into the heart of a labyrinth

July 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Maze-Runner-Poster2-slideA lot of people have been overlooking The Maze Runner, viewing it as simply one more young adult novel adaptation to ass to the list of films that slip past with few people paying much attention. However reports coming out of Comic Con suggest it could actually be something a bit more interesting.

That’s certainly backed up by this new trailer, which looks surprisingly cool and intense, and seems to have learned lessons from Hunger Games that you can get away with being quite dark.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the best-selling young adult thriller, THE MAZE RUNNER is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where Thomas is deposited in a community of young men after his memory is erased. After learning they’re all trapped in a maze, Thomas joins forces with fellow “runners” to not only escape the maze, but solve its riddle and reveal the chilling secret of who brought them there, and why.’

Dylan O’Brien, Will Poulter, Kaya Scodelaria, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Patricia Clarkson star. It’ll be out in cinemas in October. [Read more…]

The Maze Runner Gets The World’s Most Literal Poster, Featuring Dylan O’Brien & Will Poulter

July 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Maze-Runner-Poster2People around the world have probably been wondering what The Maze Runner is all about, so 20th Century Fox has come up with a poster to make things clear – in the movie there will be a maze, and people will do some running. Who would have thought?

It’s actually not a bad image though, even if it does seem a little to literal for our tastes.

Will Poulter Joins Leonardo DiCaprio In The Revenant

June 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-poulterWith the likes of We’re The Millers and even Voyage Of The Dawn Treader Will Poulter has made a bit of a name for himself for comedy, however he’s now a BAFTA Rising Star winner and it seems he wants to stretch his acting wings a little, as Variety reports that he’s joined survival drama, The Revenant.

Leonardo DiCaprio is producing and starring in the film, which is based on Michael Punke’s novel, The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge. DiCaprio will play Hugh Glass, a 19th century fur trapper who is mauled by a grizzly bear, left for dead and then robbed. When he survives against all odds, he sets out on a treacherous journey to exact revenge on his betrayers.

Tom Hardy was recently mentioned as a possible co-star, but he’s not mentioned in the Variety report.

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is set to direct the movie, which is due to shoot this Autumn.

Benedict Cumberbatch & Will Poulter On For War Drama The Yellow Birds

May 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benedict-CumberbatchLots of new movies have been announced at Cannes and now it’s time for one more, with THR reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch, Tye Sheridan, and Will Poulter will star in The Yellow Birds, with David Lowery directing.

The film is an adaptation of Iraq veteran Kevin Powers’ modern war novel about ‘two soldiers, 21-year-old Private Bartle and 18-year old Private Murphy, who meet in boot camp. Bartle made a promise to Murphy’s mother to guide him home safely and takes the young private under his wing, but soon finds that promise hard to keep as they navigate a war where casual atrocity is a daily occurrence.’

Tom Wolfe has referred to the book as “All Quiet on the Western Front for America’s Arab wars.”

It’s not 100% clear who the actors will play, as Variety suggests it’ll be Cumberbatch and Sheridan as the young soldiers, but Benedict seems a lot old at 37 to play a 21-year-old. It’s more likely Sheridan and Poulter will be the young men, leaving Cumberbatch as an older soldier (presumably their CO).
