Hurricane Bianca Trailer – Bianca Del Rio goes a little bit Tootise in the gay-themed film

August 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hurricane-Bianca-slideBianca Del Rio has used her status as a winner of Rupaul’s Drag Race to go on to bigger and better things, and that includes starring in her own star-studded movie, Hurricane Bianca. Now the trailer has arrived, having debuted over at Buzzfeed.

Things are a little bit Tootsie, with Bianca’s non-drag persona Roy Haylock starring as a teacher in Texas, who gets fired when it’s discovered he has a gay dating profile. It’s then time for a bit of revenge, with Roy returning to the school as the outrageous Bianca, who’s out to wreak a little havoc.

The great cast also includes Rachel Dratch, Alan Cumming, RuPaul, Margaret Cho, and Drag Race’s Willam Belli, Shangela, and Alyssa Edwards. There’ll be three special US cinemas screenings of the film in New York on Sept. 19th, San Fransisco on Sept. 20th , and LA on Sept. 21, followed by a Q&A with Bianca and director Matt Kugelman. It’ll then receive a worldwide digital release via Wolfe On Demand on September 23rd, and a US DVD release in October.

Gale Harold & Van Hansis’ Gay Themed Murder Mystery Gets The Go Ahead

November 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gale-harold-van-hansisThis time last month we reported that a brand new gay-themed murder mystery, Kiss Me, Kill Me, was seeking funding on Kickstarter. Well now it’s announced that it got the cash it needs and the film has the greenlight. It’s now set to go into production in December.

While the movie initially sought $100,000 on Kickstarter with the hope that in an ideal world they’d end up with $125,000. But when the campaign ended it had raised an awesome $131,231.

Kiss Me, Kill Me is a contemporary Alfred Hitchcock/Agatha Christie-style ‘who-done-it’, with the mystery centered on Dusty, who confronts his unfaithful boyfriend and blacks-out, only to wake up to find his boyfriend murdered and he’s the prime suspect.

The picture stars Gale Harold, playing a gay character for the first time since his iconic performance as Brian Kinney on Showtime’s Queer as Folk, and three-time Emmy nominee Van Hansis, from As the World Turns, and the acclaimed Eastsiders.

The month-long crowd-funding effort caused a groundswell among supporters, whose fan-made artwork, videos and music aided the campaign on social media. Director Caspers Andreas says he is beyond thrilled with the outpouring of support for the film: “The huge success of this campaign is a reminder how important movies with LGBT content are to audiences.” He continues, “Hollywood is not producing these sort of films, and we would not be able to do it without the fans.”

Joining Harold and Hansis is an impressive cast, including Willam Belli (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Kit Williamson (Eastsiders, Mad Men), Independent Spirit nominee Yolonda Ross (Go For Sisters), Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Brianna Brown (Devious Maids), Jonathan Lisecki (Gayby), Michael Maize (True Blood), Craig Robert Young (NCIS: Los Angeles), Jackie Monahan (Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same), as well as Matthew Ludwinski and Allison Lane, who both previously starred in Andreas’ Going Down in LA-LA Land.

Southern Baptist Sissies (US Cinema)

February 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

Starring: Emerson Collins, Leslie Jordan, Dale Dickey, Willam Belli, Matthew Scott Montgomery
Director: Del Shores
Running Time: 138 mins
Certificate: NR
Release Date: February 21st 2014

Normally filmed versions of stage productions are pretty tedious affairs. It’s very difficult to transfer the feel of a live production from stage to screen. That’s partly because they’re very different mediums and partly because if you’re having to shoot around an audience, it severely limits how it can actually be shot. That’s not to mention that stage acting often has to be bigger than screen acting and can come across as a little silly when removed from the theatre.

For about the first five minutes I thought this was going to essentially ruin Southern Baptist Sissies. As Emerson Collins’ Mark addressed the audience, it didn’t really feel like something that would work on screen. However then it all started to come together to create a surprisingly successful hybrid of stage and screen. [Read more…]
