Tar Trailer – James Franco, Jessica Chastain And Mila Kunis star

November 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James Franco is a busy boy both as an actor and director. Although it seems difficult to imagine he’s have time to fit any more in, we’ve now got a trailer for Tar, which sees Franco team up with Mila Kunis, Jessica Chastain, Henry Hopper and Zach Braff.

The film is ‘based on Pulitzer prize-winning poet CK Williams’ collection of the same name. The film blends together adaptations of 11 of the poems to create a poetic road trip through CK William’s life. The film takes us on a journey through several decades of American life from CK’s childhood and adolescence in Detroit in the 1940s and 50s to the early 1980s: CK and his wife Catherine are married with their son Jed. CK prepares for a reading of ‘Tar’ in New York City, and spends his nights struggling to write new poems, haunted by memories of his past. As CK drives to his reading in New York City, he remembers central moments of his life: we come to experience and understand both his relationship to love and loss, and how he found his calling as a poet through the women in his life. The film takes us back and forth between past and present, punctuated by voice-over from CK Williams’ poems, recreating the experience of memory and exploring how the fragments of one’s man life can be turned.’

A December US release is set. [Read more…]

Zach Braff Posts A Shirtless Selfie & Asks For A Magic Mike 2 Audition

July 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zach-braff-shirtless-selfie
Zach Braff is obviously pleased with his body, as he recently tweeted a shirtless selfie, along with the message to his friend, Channing Tatum, ‘Dear @channingtatum when are auditions for Magic Mike 2?’

We’re pretty sure he’s joking, although I can think of worse than the 38-year-old actor joining the planned follow-up to the male stripper movie.

Braff is just heading into production on his second directorial effort, Wish I Was Here, so presumably the lean look is to help ensure he looks as good as he can in that.

Kate Hudson Up For Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here

May 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wish-i-was-here-kate-hudson-announcement
Writer-director-star Zach Braff may have had a bit of controversy for getting $2.6 million from Kickstarter and then scoring loads more cash from traditional sources, but he’s motoring forwards and putting the cast for Wish I Was Here Together.

He’s now announced that Kate Hudson will play the female lead in of the movie. He released the image above to accompany the announcement. He also revealed a bit about who she’ll play in a statement of Kickstarter:

‘The character of Sarah (my wife) needs to be pretty, funny, believable as a mother of two children ages 5 and 12 and an actress who’s skilled at both comedy and drama.

I fell in love with Kate Hudson when I first saw her in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. (She was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Penny Lane.)

‘Years later, we have become good friends. There’s an added benefit in already being close with the actor playing opposite you; a familiarity that’s real and isn’t forced. As we shoot in August, I loved the idea of jumping into this movie-marriage with someone with whom I’ve already shared lots of laughs.

Backers, I am honored and excited to introduce our leading lady: Kate Hudson.

Allow me to introduce our starting lineup thus far:
Zach Braff (me)
Kate Hudson
Mandy Patinkin
Josh Gad
Anna Kendrick
Jim Parsons
Donald Faison

P.S. We are about to be 40,000 people strong. Can’t stop smiling. Love you all,

Zach’

The film is about Braff’s Aidan Bloom, a struggling actor who can’t quite provide for his family. When his father (Mandy Patinkin) becomes ill, he reluctantly agrees to home-school his father’s young children, which forces him to learn a lot about himself in the process.

Anna Kendrick Joins Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here

May 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Anna-Kendrick3Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here is proving slightly controversial, with some not liking the idea of him going to Kickstarter to get funding. The voices of discontent grew after it was revealed that after raising $2.6 million from crowd-funding – with none of the donors having a financial stake in the film – he then got another $8 million from traditional sources.

Whether Braff was right or not, he’s now busy filling out the cast. Mandy Patinkin signed up earlier this week, and now TheWrap reports that Anna Kendrick has also signed up to star.

The film is about 35-year-old Aidan (Zach Braff), an actor who is struggling to provide for his family. When his ailing father (Mandy Patinkin) can no longer afford to pay for his young children’s private school, Aidan reluctantly agrees to home school them, learning a lot about himself in the process.

Josh Gad is set to to play Aidan’s brother, who falls for a young woman (Kendrick) who enjoys cosplay. It’s also been suggested Jim Parsons and Braff’s Scrubs co-star Donald Faison should appear.

Kendrick’s next movie is the comedy Rapture-palooza, which hits cinemas this summer. It’s about the people left behind when the biblical Rapture comes, taking the righteous to Heaven and leaving everyone else to deal with the end of times. A new poster has now popped up online, which you can see below.

Oz The Great And Powerful (Cinema)

March 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, Zach Braff
Director: Sam Raimi
Running Time: 140 mins
Certificate: PG
Release Date: March 8th 2013

After much fanfare and a marketing blitz, Oz The Great And Powerful is finally here. So is it worth going down the yellow brick road on Sam Raimi’s trip to L. Frank Baum’s magical world? Are the Friends Of Oscar as good as the Friends Of Dorothy? The answer is yes, even if the film is far from perfect.

James Franco is Oscar Diggs, a Kansan sideshow magician and huckster who sells his illusions as real magic. He has an eye for the ladies and doesn’t care that’s he’s left a thousand broken hearts behind him, but things catch up to him when the circus strongman realises Oscar has been dallying with his gal. Oscar escapes in his hot air balloon (goodness knows why he was one, but he does), which then gets caught up in a twister and transports him all the way to Oz. [Read more…]

Teaser Poster For Oz The Great & Powerful Unveiled

July 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

As a non Sam Raimi Spider-man swings into cinemas, Disney has decided it’s time to reveal the first poster for the director’s latest effort, Oz The Great And Powerful, which follows the ‘Wizard’ (James Franco), before he made it to the Emerald City.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.’

The film is due out March 2013. (There are rumours the first footage may pop up online next week to coincide with Comic-Con, but we’ll have to wait and see if that happens).
