Casey Affleck Reuniting With David Lowery & Going Sci-fi With To Be Two

August 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

casey-affleckCasey Affleck and director David Lowery recently teamed for Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, and now THR reports that they are getting together again for the sci-fi adaptation To Be Two.

Lowery will also write the script, based on the short story To Be Two or Not To Be by Paul Broks. It is set in a world where teleportation exists. Humans get scanned and then a digital version is sent to Mars where they are reconstructed atom by atom. The original person then has to be destroyed on Earth. The story deals with an accident where the original human isn’t destroyed, leaving one human on Earth and an exact duplicate on Mars. The adaptation is said to have the same tone as director Rian Johnson’s Looper.

Affleck is attached to star and executive produce with David Lowery, Toby Halbrooks and James M. Johnston. Jim Wilson is producing and financing the development through his Silver Reel company.

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints Trailer – Take a look at the Casey Affleck & Rooney Mara movie

May 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints was one of the favourites at Sundance earlier this year and certainly got director David Lowery a lot of interest, who’s since shown interest in a Pete’s Dragon remake, as well the the Robert Redford flick The Old Man And The Gun, and Torso.

However most us haven’t has a chance to see Ain’t Them Bodies Saints yet, but now a trailer has arrived to give us a taster.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Bob Muldoon (Casey Affleck) and Ruth Guthrie (Rooney Mara), an impassioned young outlaw couple on an extended crime spree, are finally apprehended by lawmen after a shootout in the Texas hills. Although Ruth wounds a local officer, Bob takes the blame. But four years later, Bob escapes from prison and sets out to find Ruth and their daughter, born during his incarceration. Set against the backdrop of 1970′s Texas Hill Country, director David Lowery paints a poetic picture, evoking the mythology of westerns and saturating the dramatic space with an aching sense of loss. Featuring powerful performances by Affleck, Mara as well as Ben Foster and Keith Carradine, AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS is a story of love, motherhood and searching for peace while faced with an unrelenting past.’

It’s out in the US in August but there’s no UK date set yet. [Read more…]

David Lowery Set To Adapt & Direct Torso

April 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

torso-graphic-novel-coverAin’t Them Bodies Saints director David Lowery has been busy looking at possible new projects over the last couple of months, such as remake of Pete’s Dragon and The Old Man and the Gun, which has Robert Redford set to star. Now he’s picked up the languishing graphic novel adaptation Torso, according to THR.

The project is based on Brian Bendis’ true-crime graphic novel, based Elliot Ness’ time in Cleveland after he took down legendary Chicago gangster Al Capone. He becomes obsessed with tracking down a serial killer who is leaving human torsos behind, along taunting notes to the police.

Brian Bendis commented, “It’s a cool true story that very little people know of. You think you know the story of Elliot Ness? You don’t. You know the story of serial killers? You don’t. And that’s how I kept the faith.”

A film adaptation has been mooted for quite a while, with David Fincher attached to direct back in 2006. There’s no news on when Lowery hopes to shoot the movie.

Robert Redford On For The Old Man and the Gun

April 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robert-redfordRobert Redford didn’t star in any movies between 2007 and 2012, but he’s got back into the game recently, signing up for several projects. Now he’s joining forces with Ain’t Them Bodies Saints director David Lowery for The Old Man and the Gun, according to THR.

Lowery is writing the script from a 2003 New Yorker article about a lifelong bank robber named Forrest Tucker. Born in the 1920s, Tucker (Redford) spent almost his entire life robbing banks, doing time in jail, and escaping from incarceration numerous times. He had over 18 prison escapes to his credit, including breakouts from legendary penal facilities Alcatraz and San Quentin.

The article, written by David Gann, focuses on a 78-year-old Forrest Tucker living in a retirement community with his third wife. However he still has the urge to knock over banks. He was caught after a high speed chase in 2000 and sentenced to 13 years in prison before his death in 2005.

David Lowery’s script will focus on a certain period in Forrest Tucker’s life, although no further details have been given. There’s no news on when it might shoot.
