The House with a Clock in Its Walls Trailer – Cate Blanchett & Jack Black star in the creepy family film

March 29, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘In the tradition of Amblin classics where fantastical events occur in the most unexpected places, Jack Black and two-time Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett star in The House with a Clock in Its Walls, from Amblin Entertainment. The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town’s sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead.

‘Based on the beloved children’s classic written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, The House with a Clock in Its Walls is directed by master frightener Eli Roth and written by Eric Kripke (creator of TV’s Supernatural). Co-starring Kyle MacLachlan, Colleen Camp, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Vanessa Anne Williams and Sunny Suljic, it is produced by Mythology Entertainment’s Brad Fischer (Shutter Island) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), as well as Kripke.

‘The House With A Clock In Its Walls will be coming to cinemas on 28th September 2018.’ [Read more…]

New Death Wish Trailer – Bruce Willis stars in Eli Roth’s take on the Charles Bronson classic

January 4, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Directed by Michael Winner and starring Charles Bronson, 1974’s Death Wish is one of the classic revenge thrillers, about a man who becomes a vigilante following the death of his wife. The movie spawned four sequels over the next 20 years.

Now it’s getting a reimagining, with Hostel and Cabin Fever helmer Eli Roth directing, and Bruce Willis in the starring role.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of Chicago violence when it is rushed into his ER – until his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and college-age daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home. With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts his family’s assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grabs the media’s attention, the city wonders if this deadly vigilante is a guardian angel or a grim reaper.’

The movie is due in US cinemas in March. No UK date is currently set. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Cate Blanchett May Join Jack Black In Eli Roth’s House With A Clock In Its Walls

August 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cate Blanchett and Jack Black aren’t the first people you’d think of for a movie directed by Eli Roth, the man behind Hostel, Cabin Fever and The Green Inferno. However, Black is already onboard his upcoming The House With A Clock In Its Walls, while Variety report Blanchett is not in talks to join him.

The film is an adaptation of John Bellairs 1973 novel, which was illustrated by Edward Gorey. It ‘tells the tale of a recently orphaned 10-year-old boy who discovers a world of hidden passageways, magic, and danger in his uncle’s old house.’

As that synopsis suggests, this is going to be different in tone the Roth’s often dark, gory and very grown-up movies. The House With A Clock In Its Walls is still in the horror wheelhouse, but Bellair’s book was written for younger readers, so it’s likely the movie will follow suit.

Eli Roth Takes On The Giant Shark Thriller Meg

June 17, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eli-rothWhen Steve Allen’s novel Meg, hit shelves in 1997 many saw it as a bit of a successor to Jaws, and figured it wouldn’t be long until it hit the big screen.

However despite numerous attempts (the first of which was scuppered by the release of Deep Blue Sea), it’s never happened, but they haven’t given up, as now Eli Roth is in talks to direct a film version of the prehistoric shark tale, according to THR.

The novel, ‘revolves around two men who band together to neutralize an ancient shark that’s threatening the California coast. The Megaladon, considered one of the largest and most powerful predators in history, can reach a maximum length of 60 feet.’

However with China now the market Hollywood is keen to pander to, the massive beast will now be threatening that country rather than the US, although there will presumably be some Yanks around to save the day.

Dean Georgaris’ script is apparently the thing that got Warner Bros. excited about the possibilities for Meg, and no doubt Jurassic World’s recent success has helped sweeten things. It’s not clear when it will shoot though.

Knock Knock Trailer – Keanu Reeves goes home invasion for Eli Roth

May 24, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

knock-knock-slideIt looks like we’ll be getting something a little different from Keanu Reeves in Knock Knock, not least that he’ll be getting pleasured by two women!

The movie teams Keanu with director Eli Roth, of Hostel and Cabin Fever fame, which sees ‘two beautiful young girls, walk into a married man’s life and turn a wild fantasy into his worst nightmare.’

It look like Roth could be going back to the intense horror with a dash of sex that he was first known for, although this time with someone a bit more famous in the lead.

The movie reaches cinemas this June. [Read more…]

Keanu Reeves Is Set To Knock Knock For Director Eli Roth

April 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

keanu-reevesKeanu Reeves could do with a hit. He hasn’t had a bona fide success in a long time, and recently 47 Ronin turned into a costly failure, while his directorial debut, Man Of Tai Chi, barely made a dent in the box office.

He’ll be hoping for better by teaming up with Eli Roth for the psychological thriller Knock, Knock.

Deadline says the movie follows a happily married family man who is left alone for a long weekend. During this time he is visited by two beautiful women and as this is the movie, things quickly spiral out of control.

The women are set to be played by Lorenza Izzo, who also appears in Roth’s upcoming cannibal horror thriller, The Green Inferno, and Ana de Armas, who recently appeared in the Robert De Niro drama, Hands of Stone.

Also starring is and The Green Inferno alum, Ignacia Allamand, who will be Reeves’ wife, while Colleen Camp and Aaron Burns are also onboard.

It’s all come together very quickly, with Keanu Reeves signing up shortly after reading the script and then a rush into production with filming starting April 14th in Santiago, Chile.

Roth comments,”I had a window before I promote The Green Inferno, and I wanted to make a movie like Roman Polanski or Paul Verhoeven made when they were young, a classic psychosexual thriller that’s not a horror movie, but would have everyone on the edge of their seats. Getting Keanu Reeves is amazing, he’s a fine actor who is perfect for this. I feel I can have this movie ready for Toronto if I need to, and he’s catching a plane tomorrow and we’ll be fitting him for wardrobe right away.”

Hostel’s Eli Roth To Helm Knock Knock

February 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eli-rothDirector Eli Roth had a big hit with Hostel and it’s sequel, but there’s been a six-year gap between Hostel Part II and Green Inferno (which doesn’t get released until later this year). He’s keen to ensure there isn’t another lengthy break as he’s got a new movie in the works. TheWrap reports Roth has signed on to direct the horror-thriller Knock Knock.

The movie will reunite him with his Aftershock and The Green Inferno co-writers, Nicolá Ló and Guillermo Amoedo.

The film is about ‘two young girls who show up unexpectedly at the home of a married man where they seduce him and wreak havoc on his perfect life’.

No cast members is attached at this time, but Roth will be moving quickly to find some actors as shooting is set to begin this April on a budget of less than $10 million.
