Earlier today, rumours emerged via Latino Review that Marvel was talking to Bradley Cooper about voicing Rocket Raccoon in Guardians Of The Galaxy. That’s now been confirmed by TheWrap. An offer has apparently been made to the actor, although it’s not know how close he is to signing (Cooper would provide the voice, although someone else will do the motion capture for the CGI character).
Rocket Raccoon started out with his own comic mini-series in the mid-80s before becoming part of the Guardian Of The Galaxy. He’s a talking Raccoon who a fast-talking member of the group that has vowed to protect the universe from the bad guys. Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey have both previously been rumoured for the role, but Cooper is apparently who director James Gunn wants.
In a recent interview Gunn said, “Here’s the thing: there are a lot of people who have a lot of ideas of who is right for Rocket Raccoon. Rocket Raccoon has been slightly different over the years, in the comic books, and within my scripts he is a very, very specific guy, and I think people are going to have to wait for a few weeks before they see. We’ll have to wait for a few weeks to see. We’ll get our dream guy, because a lot of people want to do it, so we’ll get the person who’s perfect for the role.”
The film recently began shooting in the UK, with an August 1st, 2014 release date set.
