May 15, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mark Wahlberg and director Pete Berg sure like one another. After Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon and Patriot’s Day, they’ve got back together for Mile 22, and once more it’s taking them into heroic action territory.

Mark Wahlberg Will Be The Six Billion Dollar Man With Peter Berg Directing

November 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mark-wahlbergA few months ago rumours emerged that Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg were thinking about making a movie version of The Six Million Dollar Man. It turns out that was correct, but six million doesn’t buy you what it did in the 1970s, so Deadline reports that it will now become The Six Billion Dollar Man. That’s inflation for you.

The movie is about Steve Austin (Wahlberg), a former astronaut who nearly dies after crashing an experimental plane. He is saved when scientists give him bionic replacements for both legs, his right arm and left eye. He becomes a powerful weapon for the government as a secret agent for the Office of Scientific Intelligence.

The TV series, which starred Lee Majors and ran for five seasons between 1974 and 1978, was based on the 1972 novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin.

It appears getting the movie off the ground hasn’t been plain sailing though. While Universal own the rights to The Six Million Dollar Man TV series and were said to be backing the film when it was first rumoured, in order to move things forwards The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Films label has now stepped in to back the movie, although Universal may still part-finance.

Peter Berg, who previously worked with Wahlberg on Lone Survivor, will direct. They hope to shoot the film sometime next year for a 2016 release.

New Lone Survivor Trailer – Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster & Taylor Kitsch turn Navy Seals

November 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lone Survivor is already building a bit of Oscar buzz, and it’ll be interesting to see whether it can build that in the run up to Awards season.

The movie is based on a failed 2005 mission, Operation Red Wing, which tasked four members of SEAL Team 10 (Wahlberg, Hirsch, Foster, Kitsch) to kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. However they were quickly compromised and came under attack. As the title suggests, it didn’t go well. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, Taylor Kitsch, Eric Bana, Emile Hirsch and Alexander Ludwig.

Universal have slotted it in for a prime Oscar push, with a limited US release around Christmas before it goes wide next January. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Lone Survivor Trailer – Mark Wahlberg, Emile Hirsch & Taylor Kitsch are under fire in Afghanistan

August 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lone Survivor looks like it might be an interesting one and Universal obviously agree, as they slotted it in for a prime Oscar push, with a limited US release around Christmas before it goes wide next January. Now we get our first look at the Peter Berg movie, which stars Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, Taylor Kitsch, Eric Bana, Emile Hirsch and Alexander Ludwig.

Eric Bana Up For Peter’s Berg’s Navy SEAL Drama Lone Survivor

August 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Eric Bana is in talks to join the increasingly starry cast of Lone Survivor for Universal Pictures and director Peter Berg (Battleship), according to Variety.

The project is based on Marcus Luttrell’s non-fiction book, describing how he and his Navy SEAL team survived after being ambushed in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan in 2005.

Mark Wahlberg is attached to portray Luttrell, with Ben Foster, Taylor Kitsch, and Emile Hirsch playing the other Navy SEAL’s. No details are known for Bana’s character.

Peter Berg is directing from his own screenplay, adapted from Marcus Luttrell’s book. Shooting is scheduled to begin September 25 in New Mexico (a much safer place to film than actually going to Afghanistan).
