The Boy Next Door Trailer – Jennifer Lopez goes cougar for Ryan Guzman

September 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

boy-next-door-slideJennifer Lopez seems to have accepted she’s not 21 anymore (it took her a while), as she’s turning cougar for The Boy Next Door, although it looks like this might be a bit of a cautionary tale about underestimating the obsessions of youth.

The film is about a woman (Lopez) who’s separated from her husband and becomes attracted to the teenage boy who moves in next door (Step Up’s Ryan Guzman), even though the young new neighbour becomes friends with her son. After briefly striking up a romance with the boy, she breaks it off abruptly, only to realise how obsessed he has become with her.

Rob Cohen directs from a screenplay by Barbara Curry. It’s due out in the UK March 2015. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Rob Cohen To Helm Road House Remake

November 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

road-house-dvd-coverThe remake train continues to roll on with the news that MGM is once again reaching into their vaults to remake the cult classic, Road House. THR reports that The Fast and the Furious and xXx director Rob Cohen is set to helm the film.

The original 1989 movie follows Dalton (Patrick Swayze), a tough bouncer with a mysterious past who is called upon to tame and protect a dirty Missouri bar. However, he becomes the target of rich town bully Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara), which leads to one of the more epic 80s showdowns in action movie history.

It’s a bit of an over the top movie, but that’s what has made it a cult classic. There’s no news on whether the remake plans to tone things down or go even more extreme. Probably the latter given Cohen’s track records.

Jennifer Lopez Turns Cougar For The Boy Next Door

September 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jennifer-lopezThanks to Paranormal Activity, producer Jason Blum has become a big of a micro-to-mid budget powerhouse, bringing us the likes of Insidious, The Purge, Dark Skies and Sinister. Now he’s getting slightly less horror-centric with the thriller The Boy Next Door, which will star Jennifer Lopez (Blum also produced films like The Reader, so he’s not just about scares).

It’s another low-budget effort from the producer, costing just $3-$4 million, according to Variety.

The actress will play a recently separated mother who strikes up an affair with recently arrived in town teenage boy. However, when her son befriends her inappropriate love interest, things take a turn for the worse and the mother tries to abruptly end the relationship. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this doesn’t work out well for anyone involved.

xXx and The Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen is in talks to direct from a script by Barbara Curry. The plan is to shoot this autumn, before Lopez is due to return as a guest judge on American Idol in January.

Alex Cross (Blu-ray)

May 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Tyler Perry, Matthew Fox, Edward Burns, Jean Reno, Carmen Egojo
Director: Rob Cohen
Running Time: 101 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 6th 2013

We’ve rather missed out on Tyler Perry here in the UK. While his self-written and directed movies have proved big hits amongst African-American audiences in the US and turned him into a multi-millionaire, many of his films never got cinemas releases in Britain. Some did get belated DVD releases, but a few have never come out here at all. Alex Cross is Perry’s attempt to segue over into the worldwide mainstream cinema success, as well as being the first film to have him in the lead that he didn’t also write and helm himself (he did pop up in a small role in Star Trek though). xXx Helmer Rob Cohen to Direct Crash Bandits

April 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rob-cohenRob Cohen’s attempt to get more serious with Alex Cross didn’t turn out particularly well, so it seems the xXx, Fast & The Furious and The Mummy 3 director is heading back to lighter fare with Crash Bandits, according to THR.

The film is about two rival treasure hunters who specialise in salvaging plane wreckage. When they hear about the Holy Grail of plane wrecks in the Amazon, the set off on a race to see who can get there first. Michael Stokes wrote the original script, although Rob Cohen will perform a rewrite.

The project has been around for a while as it was previously in the works with John McTiernan attached to direct and Hayden Christensen set to star. However with McTiernan having major legal troubles over allegations of lying to the FBI, that fell apart.

Rob Cohen Plans Isaac Newton Action Hero Movie

June 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

By most accounts, Isaac Newton was a genius of the highest order but was also a bit of an ass. He was notoriously difficult to get on with, not particularly social, got into petty and bitter disputes with other mathematicians, and it’s said he made his books deliberately difficult to understand, so he wouldn’t be bothered by amateur scientists, as he knew they wouldn’t be able to get through his tomes.

However it appears The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor director Rob Cohen wants to give him a bit of a makeover, as THR says Cohen is developing a movie that would turn Newton into an action hero! While best known for his work in the fields of physics and mathematics, the movie will focus on Newton’s time as the head of the British Mint, where he helped track down counterfeiters and developed a new standard for money that made it more difficult for criminals to fake cash.

The presumption is the movie will have a bit of a Sherlock Holmes tone and will pretty much ignore the historical Newton in favour of a more dashing, action-packed one. Cohen will write the script and also help develop a graphic novel based on the concept.

First Pics From Alex Cross Debut – Tyler Perry, Ed Burns and a freaky looking Matthew Fox

May 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tyler Perry has built an empire for himself starring, directing and writing movies that are extremely popular in African American community, but made outside the Hollywood system. However now he’s trying to expand his appeal by starring in someone else’s film, Alex Cross, based on James Patterson novel, I Alex Cross.

The character has already had a couple of screen appearances, with Morgan Freeman as the detective in Kiss The Girls and Along Came A Spider, but if these images are anything to go by, Rob Cohen’s new film is a llot grittier. You can see the first pics above and below – which include a barely recognisable and psychotic looking Matthew Fox. The film will hit cinemas this October.

Here’s the synopsis of the book: ‘Can Alex Cross survive his most chilling – and personal – case ever? Pulled out of a family celebration, Detective Alex Cross gets awful news: A beloved relative has been found brutally murdered. Vowing to catch the killer, he quickly learns that she was mixed up in one of Washington, D.C.’s wildest scenes. And she was not this killer’s only victim . . . The hunt for the murderer leads Alex and his girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, to a place where every fantasy is possible, if you have the credentials to get in. Soon they confront some very important, very protected, and very dangerous people who will do anything to keep their secrets safe. As Alex closes in on the killer, he discovers evidence that points to the unimaginable – a revelation that could rock the entire world.’ (Images via Kinopoisk)
