Night at the Museum 3 Moves Forward, With Ben Stiller & Director Shawn Levy Returning

February 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Night-At-The-Museum2-pic2The Night At The Museum movies have proved very lucrative for 20th Century Fox, so it’s not surprising that they’d like a third adventure. Now that movie is going forward with Coming Soon reporting that Ben Stiller is set to return as security guard Larry Daley, with Shawn Levy once more directing. The studio must be pretty confident it’ll happen, as they’ve already slated a December 25the, 2014 release date.

A third adventure was first mooted back in December 2010, when screenwriter Thomas Lennon, who wrote the first two films with Ben Garant, hinted that a sequel was being written.

There’s no info on what the story will be this time around, but it’s fair to assume that Larry Daley will once more be dealing with museum exhibits coming to life after the lights go off in the evening. The first film was set at New York’s Museum of Natural History, while the secong moved the action to Washington’s Smithsonian. It’s not known if a third museum will be involved in the new movie.

First Poster For The Internship With Owen Wilson & Vince Vaughn

January 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

internship-preview-poster1Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are getting back together for The Internship, which certainly sounds like it could be a lot of fun when it arrives in cinemas on July 4th. Now the first poster for the movie is here, and as you can guess, the film has a bit of an Internet theme.

Billy (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Owen Wilson) are salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship at Google, along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

Shawn Levy (Real Steel) directs.

Shawn Levy Producing Sci-fi Flick The Story Of Your Life

November 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It sometimes feels that Night At The Museum and Real Steel director Shawn Levy is on a mission to produce all movies, as he has a ridiculous number in the works that have his name attached to them. Now a new one has surfaced via ComingSoon, as he’s set to produce the sci-fi flick, The Story Of Your Life, with commercials director Nic Mathieu planning to make his feature directorial debut on the film.

Eric Heisserer (The Thing, A Nightmare On Elm Street) is writing the screenplay, based on Nebula Award-winning short story by Ted Chiang. After aliens land around the globe, a linguist is recruited by the US government in a race to decipher their intentions on Earth. However learning their language teaches her how to think like them, which results in her being able to perceive time ‘chrono-synclastically’, which essentially means she can remember the future.

Unsurprisingly this causes more than a few issues, not least that she now has the ability to see what will happen to her currently unborn daughter.

Casting is apparently now underway, with shooting set to start in the first half of next year.

Shawn Levy Set To Direct This Is Where I Leave You

November 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Shawn Levy already has quite a few films on his plate as both a director and producer, but he’s adding one more as Variety report he’s is in final talks to direct the Warner Bros. comedy This Is Where I Leave You, replacing the previously attached Adam Shankman.

Back in May, Jason Bateman, Malin Akerman, Zac Efron, Leslie Mann, Jason Sudeikis, and Goldie Hawn joined the cast. Jason Bateman has since left the project, and it’s unclear if the other actors will still be available. The project has been in development at the studio since 2009.

The movie is based on Jonathan Tropper’s novel, which centre on a father who makes a final request before his death. He wants his dysfunctional, estranged family to spend seven days with one another after the patriarch’s funeral. Inevitably this causes a lot of problems.

It is believed that Shawn Levy wants to make this his next project, with production tentatively scheduled to begin next summer.

Daniel Radcliffe Seeks Frankenstein Hunchback Role

October 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago Shawn Levy stepped aside from directing Fox’s planned revisionist take on Frankenstein and was replaced by Lucky Number Slevin helmer Paul McGuigan. Now it seems they’re looking at casting and Daniel Radcliffe has stepped forward, expressing interest in playing a character called Hunchback, who’s Frankenstein’s assistant, according to TheWrap.

The script, from Chronicle’s Max Landis, apparently “puts a sci-fi take on this classic story about a creature produced through a scientific experiment”. Hunchback seems to be an Igor-type role (although probably not Igor himself, as Universal might kick up a fuss because they created Ygor for Son Of Frankenstein and Ghost Of Frankenstein, as well as the idea of the doctor having a hunchbacked assistant in their earlier Frankenstein movies).

It fits well with Radcliffe’s current trend for darker, more interesting roles, as the Hunchback is described as “pathologically dirty and dressed in old clowns’ clothing”.

Fox is currently trying to finalise the script, as they want to move forward with the film as soon as possible, in order to get a jump on numerous competing projects at other studios.

The movie sees Vaughn and Wilson as two old-school salesmen who, finding themselves suddenly unemployed and passed-by in the digital world, try to reinvent themselves by becoming interns at a major tech company. The film is based on Vaughn’s original script.

Shawn Levy Gets Monster Problems

June 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Thanks to Night At The Museum and Real Steel, Shawn Levy is one of the studio’s favourite directors at the moment. He’s got quite a few films in development, and now he’s added another, as THR reports that Paramount is in negotiations to pick up Monster Problems, a spec script by Brian Duffield for Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps banner to produce.

Plot details are being kept secret, but the movie has been described as a post-apocalyptic road movie in the vein of Mad Max and Zombieland, but with a John Hughes-esque love story at its centre. Quite how that works isn’t known, but it’s certainly intriguing, and the title suggests it’ll also serve up some monsters.

At the moment Levy is just set to produce, but could end up directing. That won’t be for a while though, as he’s planning a July shoot for his next movie, The Internship, which will reteam Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. He’s also got several other movies in development, including a new take on Frankenstein.

Levy is also attached to the likes of Frankenstein and Fantastic Voyage, but chose to put the less tech-heavy Intership first. (Source: Variety)
