Steven Spielberg Plans Tintin 2 For Christmas 2015 Release

March 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tintin-movieAlthough The Adventures Of Tintin wasn’t a big hit in the US, its $373 million worldwide gross certainly mean that it’s worth making a second movie, which even from its earliest days was going to have Peter Jackson taking over from Steven Spielberg at the helm.

However, with Jackson busy on The Hobbit movies, it’s not been clear when we might see the film, but now Spielberg told the TimesOfIndia, Spielberg revealed that they’re hoping to get The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun ready for a Christmas 2015 release.

Here’s what the producer had to say, teasing that they are combining two of Hergé’s books into one story, “Peter Jackson is directing the next one, I’m producing. We have a script and we’re going to start performance capture probably at the end of this year. Don’t hold me to it, but we’re hoping the film will come out around Christmas-time in 2015. We know which books we’re making, we can’t share that now but we’re combining two books which were always intended to be combined by Hergé.”

Around the release of the first Hobbit movie, Jackson said he was hoping to shoot the motion-capture part in 2013, so it certainly seems they’re currently hoping to stick to that plan. It’s presumed the book that will be brought together are Prisoners of the Sun and Seven Crystal Balls. Steven Spielberg also hinted that The Blue Lotus will likely be the third Tintin film.

Spielberg & Dreamworks Plans Kashmir Set Movie

March 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Steven-SpielbergWhen Dreamworks separated from Paramount, most of its new funding came from the India based Reliance Entertainment. Now it seems Steven Spielberg is hoping to strengthen the connection to the subcontinent, with a movie set in the disputed Kashmir border region between India and Pakistan.

During a trip to India, Spielberg told the Times Of India (via THR) that, “We have finalized a script for a movie. Part of it will take place on the India-Pakistan border in Kashmir. But we’re still trying to figure out the casting, locations and who’s going to direct it.” The film will be co-produced by Dreamworks and Reliance.

Unfortunately there’s no more info on the movie than that.

Spielberg was apparently in India to celebrate the success of Lincoln with Anil Ambani, the billionaire chairman of Reliance Group. The movie’s box office is certainly good news, as Reliance has apparently been slightly worried about its investment, after a few Dreamworks projects failed financially.

Rumours Of Gremlins Reboot Resurface

January 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gremlins-singingYou can set your watch by the sun, atomic clocks, Big Ben or the regularity with which rumours surface of a reboot/sequel for Gremlins. Now they’ve popped up again, with Vulture reporting that Warner Bros is in talks with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment to reboot the franchise.

The site suggests that the reason reports of more Gremlins surface so often is that while people in Hollywood are indeed keen, the terms Spielberg offers have been too daunting from a financial perspective, and also that he’s keen to keep tight control as a producer to make sure it’s done right (while it might sound good to have Spielberg’s name attached, studios may be worried about something they have little control over).

Although no one’s commenting, it’s suggested that this time, a deal may actually happen. Don’t hold your breath though (and it’s also worth remember that Vulture is the site that earlier this week said Zack Snyder was developing a Star Wars spin-off, which was shot down by the filmmaker himself only a couple of hours later).

Jurassic Park IV Gets A Release Date – June 13th 2014

January 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jurassic-park-3d-poster-slideEver since the release of Jurassic Park III in 2001, there’s been talk of a Part IV. Over the years the likelihood of more rampaging dinos has risen and sunk, with much of the problem stemming from finding a worthwhile story. However it seems there’s been a breakthrough, as Universal Pictures has set a June 13th, 2014 release date and confirmed that it will be shot in 3D.

Steven Spielberg won’t direct this one, but he is producing. He’s been keen on getting the franchise up and running again, pushing it harder ever since 2010 when he met with Thor screenwriter Mark Protosevich to brainstorm ideas for the movie.

Then last June Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) were hired to write the screenplay. No story details have been released, but it’s fair to assume there’ll be dinosaurs and people running from them.

To help prepare us, Universal will release the original Jurassic Park post-converted into 3D on April 5th. (Source: Deadline)

Chris Nolan Rewriting Interstellar To Merge A New Concept

January 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Christopher-NolanYesterday it was revealed the Christopher Nolan’s next project is likely to be Interstellar, based on a script by his brother, Jonathan. Now a few more details have emerged, although as this is a Nolan movie, don’t expect full disclosure.

In a report about some of the biggest directors in Hollywood, Deadline talks about the fact that back in 2006 this was a Steven Spielberg project, but now that Nolan is taking over, things are changing slightly. The site says, ‘Chris Nolan is writing a script that merges an original idea of his with the script that Jonah wrote. It will retain the title Interstellar, and the ambition for the project is a film that will depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding.’

Unfortunately there’s no news on what the new ideas are but as we reporting yesterday, the original script was spawned from the ideas of theoretical physicist, gravitational physicist and astrophysicist Kip Thorne, with the story involving time travel, alternate dimensions and travelling through wormholes.

Steven Spielberg Puts Robopocalypse On Hold As It’s Too Expensive & Not Ready

January 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Steven-SpielbergWhen Steven Spielberg added Chris Hemsworth, Ben Whishaw and Anne Hathaway to the cast of Robopocalypse last autumn, the stated plan was to start shooting the movie this March, with a release date set of April 25th, 2014. However THR reveals that the director has now put the entire movie on indefinite hold.

Spielberg’s spokesperson, Marvin Levy, says, “(It is) too important and the script is not ready, and it’s too expensive to produce. It’s back to the drawing board to see what is possible.”

The screenplay adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s sci-fi novel was written by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods). It isn’t known if Dreamworks is seeking new writers. The film is set during the aftermath of a robotic uprising, focusing on how humanity has adapted after the machines took over.

We’ll have to wait and see if this means Spielberg will take on a different project instead of Robopocalyse while he waits for the huge sci-fi project to be ready.

Lincoln Writer Tony Kushner Discusses If The President Was Gay

November 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tony Kushner moved into the upper echelons of US writers with his two-part, Pulitzer Prize winning play Angels In America – A Gay Fantasia On National Themes. However his latest job has seen him take on Abraham Lincoln for Steven Spielberg’s biopics. When he was hired many wondered whether the gay writer would touch on Lincoln’s sexuality and the long-stand rumours that the President was gay.

Turns out he wasn’t going to do much about it in Lincoln, as the film is more interested with Honest Abe’s manoeuvring to get slavery finally abolished and not what he might have wanted to get up to in the bedroom.

However in has touched on his personal thoughts about Lincoln’s sexuality in an interview on GoldDerby. He says “I wanted to write about a very specific moment and I chose this moment and I don’t feel that there’s any evidence at this particular moment that Lincoln was having sex with anybody. He seems to have not slept and taken no time off and during this period I think he was beginning to feel ground to a pulp by the war and by the pressures of his job. I find it difficult to believe that Lincoln was ‘banging anybody’. Now maybe he was. I personally believe that there is some reason to speculate that Lincoln might have been bisexual or gay….

“There are, unfortunately, no memoirs, no diaries, nothing to say for sure. I don’t say in the movie whether the Lincoln character that I wrote was gay or straight. You could ask Daniel (Day-Lewis) what he was playing, but it did not seem to me a thing to make a movie about now….

“I absolutely believe that the Lincoln’s marriage was a real marriage. These two people loved each other…Whether he was gay or straight or bisexual, they had a real deep, meaningful relationship that was probably the most significant relationship in Lincoln’s life…

“It wouldn’t be the first time that a gay man and a straight woman hooked up and had a great marriage. But I don’t know. I really don’t know. And I think that’s what we have to say about it. We keep the door open and people should talk about it. I don’t feel, finally, that my politics are entirely determined by the fact that I’m a gay man.”

You can see Kushner’s remarks below.

Anne Hathaway Confirmed For Spielberg’s Robopocalypse

November 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Lincoln now in US cinemas, Steven Spielberg can go full steam ahead with Robopocalypse. In the last few months he signed Chris Hemsworth for the lead and it was revealed Anne Hathaway was in talks to join him. Now the actress has confirmed that she’ll be part of the film.

She’s told Empire, “If Robopocalypse happens I will be in it, and I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything.”

While she makes it sound like there’s a lot of uncertainty over whether Robopocalype will happen, it’s likely that’s more due to the inherent unpredictability of the movie business rather than any knowledge that Spielberg’s film might implode at any moment.

On being cast, Hathaway says, “Whenever I’m taking time off, I always joke to my team that I’m on vacation unless Steven Spielberg calls. And I was on vacation and Spielberg called. So I was like, ‘OK, put my money where my mouth is’.”

The last we heard the plan is for the movie to begin principal photography in early 2013, with a release date already set of April 25th, 2014. Exploring the fate of the human race following a robot uprising, Robopocalypse has been adapted for the screen by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield), based on the novel of the same name by Daniel H. Wilson.

Jurassic Park 3D Trailer – Just imagine the dinosaurs coming at you

November 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Trailers for 3D re-releases on the internet are slightly awkward because of course they’re in 2D, so you just have to imagine there’s an extra dimension jumping out at you. That’s not too difficult with Jurassic Park, which had dinos coming to get you even in two-dimensions. The trailer for next April’s 3D conversion has now arrived, which is a good reminder of why this is such a fun film, which became the highest grossing movie ever on its initial release.

It’s one of the few 3D re-releases you can imagine really offering something extra, and hopefully they’ll have done it well (I can’t imagine Spielberg approving it if they haven’t). Will you be going to watch it when it arrives back in cinemas next spring?).

So take a look to see Sam Neill and co. be first amazed and then terrified when they arrives on John Hammond’s prehistorically bountiful island.

Jurassic Park 3D Poster Debuts

November 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of the few movies I’ve always thought it would actually be worth giving a 3D coversion to is Jurassic Park, and Universal Pictures obviously feels the same way, as they’re busy adding an extra dimension to the movie, ahead of a 20th Anniversary 3D release next year.

Now they’ve unleashed the first poster for the conversion, which takes a classic image and makes it look a little more modern. We’ve also been promised that the trailer for the re-release should be coming very soon, but while we wait for that we have the poster.

The dinosaurs will be getting their 3D outing in cinemas starting April 5th, 2013. While convertind many films seems pointless, Jurassic Park could be one of the few that’s made even more exciting by the process. We’ll have to wait and see whether it works, it’s certainly going to be worth a look.
