The world famous Fugue Quartet has reformed a year after cellist Peter’s wife passed away. Determined to play Beethoven’s notoriously challenging Opus 131, the aging Peter (Walken) is now facing retirement due to the early onset of Parkinson’s, while second violinist Robert (Hoffman) and his wife, violist Juliette (Keener), have reached a breaking point in their relationship. Quartet seems to be the title of the moment, as that’s the name of Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut, and there’s also A Late Quartet, which has just debuted its first trailer. The film follows four members of a world-renowned string quartet who struggle to stay together in the face of death, competing egos and insuppressible lust. Christopher Walken is a man dealing with a Parkinson’s diagnosis, Philip Seymour Hoffman wants to move forward with his career, while Imogen Poots has issues with her mother (Catherine Keener).
