Looking Season 2 Teaser – Catching up with Jonathan Groff, Russell Tovey & co.

November 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

looking-s2-slideA few days ago HBO announced a January 11th premiere for the first episode of Season 2 of Looking, where we’ll go back into gay San Francisco. When we left him, Jonathan Groff’s Patrick was in the middle of a semi-love triangle with Raul Castillo’s Richie and Russell Tovey’s Kevin.

Meanwhile Agustin (Frankie J. Alvarez) and Frank’s (O.T. Fagbenle) relationship had hit the skids while Dom (Murray Bartlett) was trying to figure out his love life while also attempting to open a restaurant.

Now it’s time for our first glimpse of Season 2 with a teaser HBO has just posted and which you can watch below. It’s pretty brief but it’s good to see the boys back. (And if you’re in the UK and wondering, hopefully Looking – Season 2 will start on Sky Atlantic in the UK shortly after it begins in the US). [Read more…]

Archie’s Gay Pal Kevin Keller Wants Looking’s Jonathan Groff To Make Up His Mind!

April 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kevin-keller-lookingIf you saw Looking, you’ll know that Jonathan Groff’s Patrick spent much of the series trying to start up a relationship with Raul Castillo’s Richie, while mooning over Russell Tovey’s Kevin.

It turns out everyone has an opinion on what should have happened, even fictional characters!

That includes Archie Comics gay character Kevin Keller.

Artist Daniel Parent has come up with the pic above, which shows exactly what Keller thinks about the situation.

Personally I think Patrick should pick Richie, as long as that means I get Russell Tovey (and if you need evidence why, click here)!

HBO Is Giving The Gay-Themed Series Looking A Second Season, With Russell Tovey Becoming A Regular

February 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

looking-posterWhile there was a lot of hype over the launch of the San Francisco set, gay-themed series Looking, it wasn’t known whether HBO was likely to commission a second season. Indeed, before the first episode aired, creators Andrew Haigh and Michael Lannan suggested it was far from being sure thing.

However now THR reports that HBO has indeed decided it wants Season 2 of Looking, and that it’s hoping a new set of episode that it can air later this year. It’s certainly good news for the show to be picked up before it’s even finished its first season, suggesting the network has a lot of confidence in it.

There’s also some good news for some of the show’s actors, as the recurring characters played by Lauren Weedman (Doris), Raul Castillo (Richie) and Russell Tovey (Kevin) will be promoted to series regulars, joining Jonathan Groff (Patrick), Frankie J. Alvarez (Agustin) and Murray Bartlett (Dom).

After the first episode aired, the future of Looking seemed very uncertain. Despite the hype, only 338,000 people tuned in for the initial screening. However the figures have improved significantly as the show has continued, and strong international sales have also helped. Aggregate viewing including repeats and on-demand in the US now stands at about two million viewers a week.

Having premiered in the US on January 19th on HBO, the much-anticipated show about a group of gay friends in San Francisco makes its UK bow on Sky Atlantic on January 27th at 10.35pm. So after all the hype, was it worth it? The answer is yes, but perhaps not if you just judge it from the first episode. Crush Of The Day: Jonathan Groff & The Men Of Looking For Out Magazine

January 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

looking-out1-slide
It’s only a few days until HBO’s gay series Looking’s UK debut on January 19th (and Jan 27th in the UK), and it’s been getting plenty of good buzz. The show’s cast has also been busy promoting the show, including interviews and some great pics in Out magazine. You you can see the images above and below, featuring Jonathan Groff, Murray Bartlett and Frankie Alvarez.

Groff comments about Looking, “Our show is less about people at the beginning in their twenties figuring out who they are and more about people stepping into their lives in their thirties and forties and finding their place in the world.”

He also talks about the influence of Queer As Folk on him, saying “I was in high school. I remember I was visiting people who were in college and we went to a party and it was on TV. The scene I saw was somebody fucking somebody in a steam room. I remember thinking, Oh my god! It was very salacious to me. I knew I was gay at the time, but I was still in school and totally in the closet. It was like ‘Whoaaa, that’s a lot. That’s a lot to see.’”

Find Out More About The Characters Of The Gay-Themed Series Looking In A New Video

January 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s a lot of interest in HBO’s new gay-themed series Looking, which starts in the US on January 19th (and hopefully on Jan 27th in the UK). However while we’ve known it’s about a group of gay friends in San Francisco, who are these people and why should we care about getting to know them?

Now a new vid is hoping to answer that question, with main actors Jonathan Groff, Murray Bartlett and Frankie J. Alvarez, as well as creator Michael Lannan and writer/director Andrew Haigh (who’s best know the gay hit Weekend), talking about the show and the characters.

They certainly do a good job of suggesting this is more than just being a ‘gay show’, with potentially interesting characters going through experiences many of us can relate to. Take a look above. [Read more…]

New Looking Trailer – Jonathan Groff asks out Russell Tovey while straddling a torpedo in the new gay-themed series

December 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s only a few weeks until US viewers will be able to check HBO’s new gay-themed series, Looking, as it debuts there on January 19th. Now a new trailer for the show has arrived, giving us a fresh look at what could be a very entertaining gay-themed series.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Looking’ offers up the unfiltered experiences of three close friends living — and loving — in modern-day San Francisco. Friendship may bind them, but each is at a markedly different point in his journey: Patrick (Jonathan Groff) is the 29-year-old video game designer getting back into the dating world in the wake of his ex’s engagement; aspiring artist Agustín (Frankie J. Alvarez), 31, is questioning the idea of monogamy amid a move to domesticate with his boyfriend; and the group’s oldest member — longtime waiter Dom (Murray Bartlett), 39 — is facing middle age with romantic and professional dreams still unfulfilled.

‘The trio’s stories intertwine and unspool dramatically as they search for happiness and intimacy in an age of unparalleled choices — and rights — for gay men. Also important to the ‘Looking’ mix is the progressive, unpredictable, sexually open culture of the Bay Area, with real San Francisco locations serving as a backdrop for the group’s lives. Rounding out the ‘Looking’ world are a bevy of dynamic gay men including Kevin (Russell Tovey), Lynn (Scott Bakula), and Richie (Raul Castillo), as well as a wide-range of supporting characters like Dom’s roommate Doris (Lauren Weedman), Agustín’s boyfriend Frank (O.T. Fagbenle), and Patrick’s co-worker Owen (Andrew Law).’

After it’s US debut, it should be making its way to other countries during 2014. [Read more…]
