Non-Stop Tops The US Box Office, Beating Out The Hotly Tipped Son Of God

March 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Non-Stop-posterGoing into the weekend box office watchers were uncertain whether Non-Stop or Son Of God would come out on top of the box office chart. In the end the win went to Liam Neeson’s Non-Stop, which took $30 million in its first three days. While not quite on a par with Taken 2, it beat Neeson’s other recent man-vs-the-world flicks, The Grey and Unknown.

Son Of God was in second spot with $26.5 million, which certainly isn’t bad for a film that’s essentially just a repackaged version of part of the The Bible miniseries that aired on TV last year. It took that amount of money despite reviews slating its television grade production values and clunky pacing and script, as well as a tongue in cheek Twitter hashtag suggesting Jesus was too good looking – #hotjesus. It just goes to show how much money you can make by appealing to the US religious folk.

Those were the only two new entries, although The LEGO Movie also had reason to cheer, as it crossed the $200 million mark at the US box office over the weekend.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of February 28th to March 2nd.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Non-Stop $30.0 $30.0
2 Son Of God $26.5 $26.5
3 The LEGO Movie $21.0 $209.3
4 The Monuments Men $5.0 $65.6
5 3 Days To Kill $4.9 $20.7
6 Robocop $4.5 $51.2
7 Pompeii $4.3 $17.7
8 Frozen $3.6 $388.7
9 About Last Night $3.4 $43.7
10 Ride Along $3.0 $127.1

Non-Stop Trailer – Liam Neeson is pissed off once more, this time on a plane

October 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Who would be stupid enough to hijack a plane with Liam Neeson on it it? Haven’t they seen Taken! However that’s what happen in Non-Stop!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Global action star Liam Neeson stars in NON-STOP, a suspense thriller played out at 40,000 feet in the air. During a transatlantic flight from New York City to London, U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks (Neeson) receives a series of cryptic text messages demanding that he instruct the government to transfer $150 million into an off-shore account. Until he secures the money, a passenger on his flight will be killed every 20 minutes. NON-STOP, which reunites Neeson with UNKNOWN director Jaume Collet-Serra and producer Joel Silver, co-stars Golden Globe Award winner Julianne Moore and will be released by Universal Pictures on February 28, 2014.’

Julianne Moore & Scoot McNairy Go Non-Stop

October 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery, and Scoot McNairy have signed on to star alongside the previously cast Liam Neeson and Nate Parker in director Jaume Collet-Serra’s upcoming movie Non-Stop, according to Variety.

Neeson is set to play as an air marshall who receives text messages from someone who claims to be on his flight and is threatening to kill passengers on board. Parker will play a passenger who helps the air marshall identify the threat. Unfortunately no character details have been given for Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery, and Scoot McNairy’s characters, although presumably they’ll be on the flight too.

Jaume Collet-Serra is directing from a screenplay by Christopher Roach and John W. Richardson. Production begins November 1 in NYC.

Nate Parker Is Going Non-Stop Alongside Liam Neeson

October 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Red Tails star Nate Parker has signed up for a role opposite Liam Neeson in the action thriller Non-Stop, which director Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) is set to helm, according to Variety…

Neeson will play an air marshal who squares off with an American terrorist who take a plane load of passengers hostage, and threatens to kill someone every 20 minutes if the marshal doesn’t kill himself (no prizes for guessing there’s something a bit personal going on here). Nate Parker will play a passenger who helps Neeson diffuse the threat.

Jaume Collet-Serra will direct from a screenplay by Christopher Roach and John W. Richardson. Production is scheduled to begin within the next few weeks in New York City. Nate Parker will next be seen alongside Richard Gere in Arbitrage, and also has a role in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake.

Jaume Collet-Serra Is Going Non-Stop With Liam Neeson

May 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jaume Collet-Serra had a big success with Unknown, but has had difficulty sorting out a follow-up, with his plans for a live-action Akira put on hold not long before it was due to go into production. Now it appears he’s hoping for an easier ride by getting back into the Liam Neeson business, with Variety reporting that he’s attached to direct Non-Stop.

Jeff Wadlow was set to direct, but he’s since moved on, presumably because he’s now set to helm Kick-Ass 2. John Richardson and Chris Roach’s screenplay is set onboard an international flight and follows a weary air marshal (Liam Neeson), who has to spring into action to contain a threat while the plane is in the air.

It isn’t known when the film will start shooting.

Liam Neeson Is Going Non-Stop In An Air Bound Thriller

April 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Liam Neeson’s characters never seem to have a good time. They’re constantly having to track down kidnapped relatives, seek revenge, survive in the wilderness or take down all manner of threats. Things aren’t going to get more cheery for him in Non-Stop, which Variety reports Neeson has just signed up for.

Jeff Wadlow will direct from John Richardson and Chris Roach’s screenplay, which is set onboard an international flight and follows a weary air marshal (Liam Neeson) who has to spring into action to contain a threat while the plane is in the air.

Joel Silver is producing for Dark Castle Entertainment, and we’ll have to hope that’s a good omen, as the last time Liam Neeson, Warner Bros., and Dark Castle teamed up we got the entertaining thriller Unknown. It’s not certain when the film will start shooting.
