Director: Jaume Collet-Serra
Running Time: 86 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: December 5th 2016 (UK)

Nancy (Blake Lively) is feeling a bit lost in life and is considering dropping out of medical school. She heads off on her own to a secret Mexican beach that had special significance to her dead mother. After spending some time surfing, she discovers the bay is hiding the enormous body of a dead whale.

That’s not all that’s lurking either, as she is attacked by a great white shark, but manages to escape onto a rocky outcrop. She’s only a few hundred metres offshore, but with a gash in her leg that will attract the shark back, it doesn’t seem there will be any way to get back to the beach. It also becomes increasingly apparent that the cartilaginous fish isn’t going to give up. [Read more…]

Common Plans To Run All Night Alongside Liam Neeson & Joel Kinnaman

September 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

common-rapperLiam Neeson, Joel Kinnaman and Ed Harris are already attached to join in Run All Night and now they’ve got some company as rapper and actor Common is in negotiations to star in the Warner Bros. action-thriller, according to THR.

The movie is about an aging assassin who takes on his former mafia boss (Ed Harris) to protect his estranged son (Joel Kinnaman), a limo driver who witnessed a murder. Common is set to be the mob leader’s most trusted hitman, an emotionless killer who lets nothing stand in his way of completing the task at hand.

Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Non-Stop – both of which also starred Neeson) is directing from a screenplay by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace). It isn’t known when production may begin.

Jaume Collet-Serra Back In Talks To Direct Live-Action Akira

August 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jaume-Collet-SerraAfter years in development, 18-months ago a live action version of Akira got close enough to shooting that a production office had opened, getting ready to build the sets. Then Warner Bros. pulled the plug and it seemed the idea was completely dead.

However now it’s come back to life and they’re even trying to keep the same director, as Jaume Collet-Serra is in discussions to come back and helm the movie, according to Variety.

Warner Bros. had been exploring other options to direct, including Catfish and Paranormal Activity 4 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, but ultimately the studio was still fond of Jaume Collet-Serra’s vision. The Unknown and Orphan director is apparently keen to sign up as he’s found an opening in his schedule, and he’s also found a different way to approach the movie and trim the $90 million budget, which is why production was halted in the first place.

Steve Kloves and Albert Torres previously worked on the script, but it isn’t known if the studio is reworking the screenplay. Garrett Hedlund had been attached to play Kaneda, the leader of a biker gang who tries to rescue his best friend Tetsuo from a mysterious supernatural experiment, with Dane DeHaan and Michael Pitt also being looked at to star. It’s no known if any of them will be brought back.

March 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joel-kinnamanJoel Kinnaman’s stars should rise significantly this summer when The Killing actor takes on the title role in the remake of Robocop. Now he’s planning a follow-up, with THR reporting that he’s in final talks to star in the Warner Bros. thriller Run All Night, starring opposite Liam Neeson.

The movie is about a hitman (Neeson) who must take out his former mafia boss in order to protect his family. Kinnaman is up to play the assassin’s estranged son, a chauffeur who witnesses a murder, which puts his life in danger and results in Neeson needing to take on his old boss.

Jaume Collet-Serra is set to direct from a screenplay by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace).

Liam Neeson Plans To Run All Night With Unknown Director Jaume Collet-Serra

January 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

liam-neeson-taken-pic1Liam Neeson seems to have made a new career in the last few years playing tough guys who will stop at nothing to get out of a sticky situation, and he’s had plenty of success at it. Now he’s got another one, as he has signed up to star in Run All Night, with Unknown helmer Jaume Collet-Serra in negotiations to direct, according to Deadline.

The story centres on a hitman who takes on his former mob boss. He ends up going on the run with his wife and estranged son, fleeing from this dangerous mafia leader and the authorities as well.

If Collet-Serra does direct, this will be his third collaboration with Liam Neeson, as Unknown and the upcoming Non-Stop. Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace) wrote the screenplay. The hope is to start production this autumn.

Julianne Moore & Scoot McNairy Go Non-Stop

October 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery, and Scoot McNairy have signed on to star alongside the previously cast Liam Neeson and Nate Parker in director Jaume Collet-Serra’s upcoming movie Non-Stop, according to Variety.

Neeson is set to play as an air marshall who receives text messages from someone who claims to be on his flight and is threatening to kill passengers on board. Parker will play a passenger who helps the air marshall identify the threat. Unfortunately no character details have been given for Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery, and Scoot McNairy’s characters, although presumably they’ll be on the flight too.

Jaume Collet-Serra is directing from a screenplay by Christopher Roach and John W. Richardson. Production begins November 1 in NYC.

Nate Parker Is Going Non-Stop Alongside Liam Neeson

October 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Red Tails star Nate Parker has signed up for a role opposite Liam Neeson in the action thriller Non-Stop, which director Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) is set to helm, according to Variety…

Neeson will play an air marshal who squares off with an American terrorist who take a plane load of passengers hostage, and threatens to kill someone every 20 minutes if the marshal doesn’t kill himself (no prizes for guessing there’s something a bit personal going on here). Nate Parker will play a passenger who helps Neeson diffuse the threat.

Jaume Collet-Serra will direct from a screenplay by Christopher Roach and John W. Richardson. Production is scheduled to begin within the next few weeks in New York City. Nate Parker will next be seen alongside Richard Gere in Arbitrage, and also has a role in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake.

Jaume Collet-Serra Is Going Non-Stop With Liam Neeson

May 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jaume Collet-Serra had a big success with Unknown, but has had difficulty sorting out a follow-up, with his plans for a live-action Akira put on hold not long before it was due to go into production. Now it appears he’s hoping for an easier ride by getting back into the Liam Neeson business, with Variety reporting that he’s attached to direct Non-Stop.

Jeff Wadlow was set to direct, but he’s since moved on, presumably because he’s now set to helm Kick-Ass 2. John Richardson and Chris Roach’s screenplay is set onboard an international flight and follows a weary air marshal (Liam Neeson), who has to spring into action to contain a threat while the plane is in the air.

It isn’t known when the film will start shooting.

Here There Be Monsters For Jaume Collet-Serra & Bradley Cooper

April 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For quite a while Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have developing Brian Hegeland’s script, Here There Be Dragon. It appears they’re now really keen to move forward, as Vulture reports Unknown and Orphan helmer Jaume Collet-Serra is in talks to direct, with Bradley Cooper in line to be offered the lead role.

If Cooper does decide to sign on, he’d play real-life Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones (but set before his most famous war exploits). He’s wrongly stripped of his British naval commission and then get hired by a shipping magnate to investigate the disappearance of merchant ships in the Atlantic, with tales that they’re being attacked by a giant squid – although it could be a giant sea serpent at work.

Paul Greengrass & Robert Zemeckis sniffed around the project last summer but since since moved on, as has Brad Bird, who flirted with helming the movie in February.

Collet-Serra was set to helm Warner’s live-action Akira before that got put on hold/shut down. It’s not clear whether that film is completely dead and so they’re giving him Here There Be Dragons instead, or if Akira may still be revived at some point.

Russell Crowe In Talks For Dracula Tale

February 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After the success of Orphan and Unknown, Jaume Collet-Serra has been much in demand, but he’s been having a few troubles sorting out a follow-up, having signed onto and then left a few movies. Most recently Warner has put his take on Akira on hold due to budget issues.

In the meantime he’s putting together a new take on Dracula called Harker, which Warner is also backing, with Vulture saying the studio wants him to make that movie before going back to a cheaper version of Akira. He’s already thinking about the cast, as Russell Crowe is apparently in talks to star in the movie.

Harker is a revisionist take on Bram Stoker’s Dracula story, centring on Jonathan Harker, a Scotland Yard detective who becomes consumed with finding Dracula after a spate of grisly murders.

If Russell Crowe does sign on, shooting won’t start until after the actor has wrapped on the musical Les Miserables. There’s no guarantee he will sign up either, as the actor is also being looked at for Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, although that project doesn’t have funding fully secured yet.
