Great New Pics Of Neil Patrick Harris And The Hedwig Broadway Cast Arrive

April 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hedwig-broadway-pic2It’s just 10 days until the first ever Broadway production of John Cameron Mitchell’s awesome Hedwig And The Angry Inch officially debuts.

There are already a lot of people who are very excited about it, but just in case anyone hasn’t already booked a ticket, some new pictures featuring Neil Patrick Harris and the rest of the cast – including Lena Hall as Yitzhak – have been released via BroadwayWorld.

In the musical NPH plays the East German title character, who was left with an angry inch after a botched sex change operation that she had in order to get into the US with her American GI lover. Hedwig then started dating young Tommy Gnosis, who left her behind when he took her music and became a rock star – leaving her understandably bitter (but still very funny).

Previews have already started at the Belasco Theatre, ready for the big launch next week.

Personally I think Neil should keep the giant blonde hair permanently. (Click on the pics below for larger versions). [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: Tom Hardy Gets His Shirt Off For The Cover Of Esquire

April 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hardy-esquire1Tom Hardy is not a man who’s averse to getting his kit off, and for that we can all be thankful. The latest excuse he’s found to get his shirt off is for the cover of Esquire magazine.

And if you’re a fan of chiselled, tatted, hairy guys, you’re in for a treat.

However in the accompanying interview he suggests that his man’s man image isn’t the whole story. He says, “I have always been frightened with men. To the point where I couldn’t go into a gym because of the testosterone and I felt weak. I don’t feel very manly. I don’t feel rugged and strong and capable in real life, not how i imagine a man ought to be. So I seek it, to mimic it and maybe understand it, or maybe to draw it into my own reality. People who are scary, they terrify me, but I can imitate them. I’m not a fighter. I’m a petite little bourgeosis boy from London. I don’t fight, I mimic.”

Please insert your own joke here about finding a way to test his manliness.

Take a look at a couple more shots of Tom from Esquire below (click on them for larger versions). [Read more…]

A first look at Casa Valentina – Harvey Fierstein’s new play gets a preview

April 9, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

To some Harvey Fierstein is just the gravelly voiced guy who pops up in the likes of Independence Day and Mrs. Doubtfire to add a bit of slightly camp humour. However to others he is a gay legend.

He’s won four Tonys for both plays and musicals, created and starred in the groundbreaking Torch Song Trilogy, wrote the book for the stage versions of La Cage Aux Folles and Kinky Boots, and is a leading gay rights champion.

Now he’s returning with a new play, Casa Valentina, and we can take our first look with a new video that’s arrived online.

Here’s a bit more info about the play, ‘From four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein comes Casa Valentina, his first play in almost thirty years and his first-ever collaboration with Manhattan Theatre Club. Two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello directs this funny, fascinating world premiere based on actual events. Back in 1962, most men went to the Catskill Mountains to escape the summer heat, but others took the two-hour drive to escape something else entirely: being men. Nestled in the land of dirty dancing and borscht belt comedy sat an inconspicuous bungalow colony that catered to a very special clientele: heterosexual men whose favorite pastime was dressing and acting as women. It was paradise for these men—white-collar professionals with families—to spend their weekends discreetly and safely inhabiting their chosen female alter egos. But when they got the opportunity to share their secret lives with the world, these “self-made women” had to decide whether the freedom they would gain by emerging from hiding was worth the risk of personal ruin.’ [Read more…]

American Dad’s Roger Named Gayest Cartoon Character Of All Time

April 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ROGER-QUOTE-jpgIn the US each year, sports fans get sucked into the vortex known as March Madness, leaving us non-sports fans left out in the cold. As an alternative, Logo TV launched a bracket style tournament for pop culture fans with a twist, it’s a battle for the title of  Gayest Cartoon Character of All Time.  Last night, during the double episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Roger, the wise cracking alien from American Dad, was crowned the winner after besting 31 of animation’s biggest names.

The tournament pays homage to the cartoon characters that provided some of the first depictions of  gay characters and gay sensibilities on TV. Think about it. Decades before gay characters became a staple on primetime or portrayed by real-life actors, they were highly visible on Saturday morning and on animated shows. Some are out and proud (think Big Gay Al from South Park or SNL’s Ambiguously Gay Duo), some have always made you scratch your head wondering (like were Peppermint Patty and Marcie just friends?) and some were so gay they never even needed to come out (Snagglepuss or Vanity Smurf, hello?).

Since launching on March 18, the competition has been intense with some fan favourites being eliminated early including Scar (The Lion King), Peppermint Patty (Peanuts) and Snagglepuss. The elite 8 battle got even more intense with Vanity Smurf and Thelma (Scooby Doo) being eliminate. The final four wrapped up last night with a shocking elimination of  Stewie (Family Guy) and Big Gay Al (South Park).

You can take a look at the full rundown of the tournament over on The Backlot.

Chris Evans’ Shirtless & Nude Scenes All Collected Into One Awesome Supercut!

April 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m surprised this hasn’t happened before. After all Chris Evans is not an actor afraid to strip down and there are an awful lot of people out there who are very, very grateful for that.

However now some absolute genius over at TheWrap has cut together a glorious minute of footage of Evans with his shirt off and often wearing even less that that, ranging from his Not Another Teen movie whipped cream bikini to his strategically placed towel in What’s Your Number?

Add in him steaming in Fantastic Four and buffed up for Captain America, and you’ve got one of the best ways to spend a minute you could hope for.

Next up someone just needs to convince him to make a movie where he develops an allergy to clothing for the entire running time, so we can get rid of those pesky bits of his films where you can’t admire his chest. [Read more…]

Mickey Mouse Was A Gay-Basher In Unearthed 1930s Comic Strip!

April 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mickey-mouse-slideIf you look into the Disney archive you’ll find a few rather unsavoury things. While to some these racist and anti-Semitic comic strips and cartoons are evidence that the House Of Mouse is and always has been evil incarnate, they’re really more evidence that the past was a very different place.

Now Disney can add gay-bashing to the list of past crimes as a 1930s comic strip has been unearthed by DeviantArt and GayStarNews, where Mickey Mouse literally kicks the butt of someone he thinks is too effeminate for his Depression-era conception of what an animated man/creature/thing ought to be.

And it’s not just the violence we can find offensive, as in just a few short frames, whoever drew the strip always manages to cram some offensive stereotyping in as well. And quite frankly, even if Mickey is a homophobe, he also needs some major anger management classes.

Of course nowadays Disney is a far more LGBT-friendly place. Indeed it’s now more often in trouble with anti-gay nuts who think the company is dedicated to turning all youngsters gay. However in the past it sometime reflected rather different values.

Click on the pic below left and scroll to read the comic strip. [Read more…]

Then take a look at Cineworld’s handy infographic that charts the changes in cinema across the decades, from its early inception to the modern day.

Apropos Of Nothing: McFly Super-Hottie Harry Judd Is In The Buff For Attitude’s 20th Anniversary

March 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

harry-judd-attitude-birthday1-slideThis is a film site, so I’ve desperately been trying to find reasons to justify including these pics of McFly/McBusted drummer and Grade A super-hottie Harry Judd. He does funny things to me you see and I feel the need to share.

I found an excuse though, as Harry is a movie star, appearing alongside Lindsay Lohan and a pre-Star Trek Chris Pine in 2006’s cinematic masterpiece Just My Luck. Admittedly it was a tiny role and I don’t think he even had any speaking lines, but he was in the movie, so it counts.

Now if they just make a film called ‘Harry In (And Out Of) His Underpants’, I’m sure it would rival Avatar in the box office all-time charts.

The buff and nicely furry young man has never been afraid of showing off some flesh to please his male fans, posing for numerous gay mag underwear shoots. Now he’s back as the cover star for Attitude magazine’s 20th Anniversary Issue, and once more he’s looking incredible.

His only regret seems to be he’s not allowed to be even more nude, telling the mag that a full frontal shot would have been a good plan, saying “I was thinking about this the other day and really there’s only one place to go, but obviously you can’t do fully naked covers.”

Damn those prudish newsagents! Especially as looking at what those briefs barely hide, he’s got plenty to show off! Enjoy the pics below and find out more over at Attitude. [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: 90210 Hottie Trevor Donovan Gets Shirtless To Help Homeless Animals

March 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac 3 Comments

trevor-donovan-hha2-slideTrevor Donovan is quite the hottie, and he’s not afraid to get his shirt off if it’s for a good cause. He’s stripped down to some boxing shorts in order to help the charity Helping Homeless Animals.

35-year-old Donovan is best known for TV’s 90210 and Days Of Our Lives, and has also popped up in Surrogates and Savages (and according to IMDB he was Paul Walker’s body double in Takers, which must have been an odd job).

Now he’s helping out the critters, a few of whom stopped by for the photoshoot. Quite frankly, we need more hot male celebs getting involved in this!

Enjoy the images below (click on them for larger versions). And if you want to find out more about Helping Homeless Animals, head to their website. [Read more…]
