When someone is nominated for a Brit Award (the UK equivalent of The Grammys) for Best International Solo Male, you’d expect them to be well known names. After all, this year’s nominees include Eminem, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, and Drake. And then there’s John Grant, a surprise addition to the list simply because he’s not that well known and none of his records have topped the charts.
However few deny he’s a good musician, and he’s also unusual in the industry for being a performer who’s open about the fact he’s both gay and HIV+.
Now he’s released a video for his song Glacier, from his latest album Pale Green Ghosts, which pays tribute to gay history using found footage of the LGBT struggle from the turn of the 20th Century through Stonewall and onto the fight for gay marriage.
